  1. Some interesting points here. Whilst I guess only really hardened fans will travel to Colchester for a mid week game there may be a couple of hundred or so who may travel from London or other outposts of Saints support. Whilst not disagreeing that our younger players may come up against hardened pros, the likes of McCarthy, Isgrove, Turnbull, Stephens, Seagar, McQeen have all been out on loan at Championship/Leagues 1 & 2 and seem to have acquitted themselves OK. Also teams such as Crewe have consistently played youngsters and done reasonably OK (although Crewe struggled last year) It will be interesting to see how we get on
  2. Credit where credit is due if the figure of 12,000 + season ticket update is correct (and who verifies this?) then it is a splendid effort following a number of abysmal attempts to extradite themselves from Div 4 Bradford City did something similar on the back of enticing season ticket prices and they have followed this up again this year and have recorded 18,000 season ticket sales
  3. Gardos was seen at David Lloyd a day or so again having a one to one session with one of the Saints medical/fitness team. Not sure the reason for this. Could be trying to catch up on fitness or continued remedial work post injury.
  4. Steve Do you think it will sell out for a Friday night game on Sky? I want to take my lad who is a member so have to wait a few days down the line to see if there are any tickets left for the two of us to sit together
  5. I wonder if the gentleman in question has any lady friends beyond those who he may have to attract by offering coin of the realm?
  6. Duncan You and your fellow contributors do a great job, so my personal thanks to you all for this. I shall buy the book to add to my growing collection. Meantime good news about Kat Liebherr I guess the club must be worth over £200m if she decided to sell, set against the £25m or so she and her father have invested So quite a capital gain, on paper. Fair play to her that she doesn't seem to want to realise her capital asset at the moment.

    Trident

Question is, when Scotland get independence and, bearing in mind all bar one of their MP's voted against renewal of Trident, where will the home base be located when Mrs Krankie kicks out the subs?
  8. Wonder if the 'Fratton Faithful' realise that Paul Doswell, the Manager of Sutton Utd, is a big Saints fan Last time I saw him was in the St Marys Megastore where he was buying a load of flags and scarves etc for him and his family prior to the JPT final I wonder if the cry of 'Scummer' echoed round the Sutton Utd ground earlier this week?
  9. Bearing in mind that at least 20% of spectators at St Marys stand throughout the game, it seems sensible to consider the safe standing option. However unless this increases capacity (which I think it may do based on the German model) the ticket price is likely to remain the same
  10. I doubt if our U21's would beat a full mid/upper table L2 side but it would be really embarrassing if they did. Undoubtedly the game would be classed as a 'First Team Fixture' and potentially reduce our win ratio (the best of any English derby games) if we were to lose_ Could also imagine a decent sized away following turning up at SMS as a 'badge of honour' to make their presence felt in a sub 10,000 crowd I doubt if too many Saints fans would turn up at Fratton Park if the game was there
  11. I wonder how many of the 22-24,000 ticket holders will put the sticker in the car? I used to have a pennant in my (oldish) car for many years when I was younger and used to drive around the country quite a lot and never had a problem, even down in Pompey. Now that I have a decent car I would be rather more concerned about the consequences of someone taking exception to the sticker on display.
  12. Very impressed with his interview and hopefully will be a good signing Some suggestion that he lacks pace but can't have it all for £12m I suppose
  13. No McCarthy or Gape? Is former with Walsall on loan?
  14. Notice that will all their 'new' money, the local Liverpool Council (who are regularly moaning about the lack of Government money to pay for essential services) have bought Everton's Finch Farm training ground and are now investing £13m in an upgraded mini stadium to house their Under 21 games
  15. I sorry to say I have to agree with your comment
  16. I went there many years ago on a school trip. A seagull shat on my school cap on the Great Ormes Head (if I remember the name of the hill correctly)
  17. You have got to say that regularly selling between 9-11,000 season tickets each year is a decent effort However I guess this is partly due to the continued level of support Pompey enjoy (fair play to them for this) but also the low cost of the season ticket. Bradford City enjoyed the same arrangements before they finally escaped from League 2
  18. As you might expect the Liverpool Echo are creaming themselves over the reply!!!
  19. I see what you are saying here However most/all of the cities mentioned have received shed loads of investment, mainly from the EU, to pump prime upgrades of their city centres. Liverpool, as an example, has received (and will continue to receive for the next year or so) Objective One EU finding which exceeds £1 billion A small proportion of this would have aided Southampton significantly
  20. Liverpool Echo are speculating that Everton are interested in Pelle but baulking at the £20m price tag Saints have put on him
  21. Going back to the 70's, Roger Fry and Terry Spinner left Saints to play for Walsall
  22. Interesting to see that the Liverpool Echo is running a story about a plague of flies in Everton Co - incidental or what?
  23. I think he was suffering from prostrate cancer Unlikely to be caused by playing football
  24. I felt very sorry for the Pompey fan who ended up badly injured in Marseilles I still do and would have been happy to donate money to the fund raising that is underway Whilst enjoying a bit of banter with Pompey fans I would not wish any decent Pompey fan any harm. However there are suggestions that the chap in question has boasted on Twitter about his past association with the 657 crew. This is uncorroborated at the moment but perhaps would change my view of things if proved to me correct. Having said that being assaulted with an iron bar, which seems to be the case, is cowardly in the extreme.
