  1. File him in with a long list of players that when we signed them we were delirious thinking we'd pulled off a coup only for them to flatter to deceive.
  2. Lack of integrity. Saw a clip of a game from many years ago. Vinny Jones absolutely poleaxed Steve McMahon with a very meaty challenge. McMahon simply got up and kept playing. It was a late tackle and a foul, perhaps a yellow (I think Jones escaped a yellow) bu there was no yelling in faux agony, no rolling over holding the face, not gesturing to the ref. McMahon just got on with it. Nowadays players are waitng for contact and sometimes seeking it out so they can cry out and roll about a bit to gain an advantage. I am all about protecting skilled players from hod-carriers deliberately beasting them but I lose sympathy when the purposely look for contact so they can con the ref.
  3. That’s probably the worst penalty I’ve ever seen. Wow!
  4. Did an online predictor, had this one down as a 1-1 draw. Did it pretty quickly but we didn’t really get any breathing room until after the 35th game where we got 6pts ahead of Cardiff. A wina Brighton could really start to see us feeling comfortable but I think it’ll be drawn out much more.
  5. There's one very famous one! "Sims......he can run for the hills here.....LONG!!!!! AND takes SAINTS to Wembley...deal done...history made!!!!" (paraphrasing)
  6. Remember the soccer sixes tournament from the 80s held at the NEC and G-Mex arenas? https://www.theguardian.com/football/that-1980s-sports-blog/2018/dec/22/soccer-sixes-perfect-christmas-present-football-fans Top photo even has Saints in it. This came up in another thread but figured it might need its own. The above article is a good read for a certain age group. Brought back so many memories. David Speedie in goals for Coventry, Paul Davis and Glenn Cockerill’s first game against each other after the infamous broken jaw punch at Highbury.
  7. The season we went to the League Cup final had a big break and a huge break between consecutive home games. Can’t remember all the details. I’m sure someone will though.
  8. Watched your game last night. Way to **** away a good win. Was almost Saints-esque.
  9. Ohhh yes! I remember that now. Was on the TV too. Was fun to watch. https://www.theguardian.com/football/that-1980s-sports-blog/2018/dec/22/soccer-sixes-perfect-christmas-present-football-fans EDIT: apparently it wasn't the same tournament though. The linked one is the one I remember. The above article is a good read for a certain age group. Brought back so many memories. David Speedie in goals for Coventry, Paul Davis and Glenn Cockerill’s first game against each other after the infamous broken jaw punch at Highbury.
  10. So much has changed! 2nd div: Chelsea, Watford, Cardiff, Crystal Palace, Leicester, Newcastle 3rd div: Burnley, Fulham, Huddersfield 4th div: Bournemouth
  11. That's what happens in ice hockey. I'd rather they kept football the way it is.
  12. That was back when I lived near Andover. Dad had taken me to the Dell in 1980 for my first taste. I can remember quite vividly my Dad lamenting how many late goals Liverpool got in that 1984 season, tutting and saying "lucky lucky Liverpool" as the scores came in on the TV.
  13. When Redmond spurned those 2 chances I was in full muttering under my breath/rant mode. “C’mon Saints, just this once smash in a couple and get us an unexpected victory vs a top 6 team, throw us a bone ffs”. Have to say I went ****ing ballistic at the goals and final whistle. Great feeling, would like that more often. At 1-1 my son said, “imagine he scores this free kick”. “Haha, chance would be a fine thing” After a few minutes of raucous celebration my son just said “yep”. Lol. Get in!!
  14. I’m so sorry for your loss.
  15. I wish! We have enormous snow piles here (about 6-8 ft either side of each driveway). Warmer temps on the way but it’ll still be hanging around by then, although much reduced (hopefully). We’ve had a brutal winter.
  16. Should keep a Salah or Aubamayang name tag in his pocket if he wants to get away with that...
  17. They lost. Looks like they will have to settle for playoffs at best.
  18. They have a cup match, would he miss that one? Genuinely asking I’m not familiar with the rules.
  19. To think of that terrible decision vs Watford too where Yoshi was adjudged to be offside and interfering. That alone could cost Saints dear. Terrible refs most weeks make it so much harder for us.
  20. What happened?
  21. There was a pull-back on Armstrong when he was clean through and awaiting a pass. Sissoko headbutt after the skirmish with Redmond.

  23. Cardiff must be a sick as pigs.
