84/6 at tea. All the real batters gone, most of them very cheaply. Honestly the coaching has to be under review surely. Not to mention the young talent not progressing or so it would seem. Brown shouldn't be batting at 5 when we're supposed to have young talent available.

FFS 0/2

The point is not having hundreds of county cricketers not playing any paying cricket for the entire month of August. The counties still have to pay those not interested or not selectionable for the latest in the franchise extravaganzas. During the T20 plenty were already playing club cricket whenever they could. They said on the commentary the other day that 3 or 4 of ours who don't play T20 were playing for Callington on week-ends.
-
Fuller had a pretty poor record with the ball in the T20 as well. Often went for 9+ an over and only took 7 wickets at an average of 35+. Nowhere near the player he was last season. But he did have an injury and an illness I believe. Some of his Championship bowling the other day was wicked poor, bowled off the cut strip a few times. Perhaps he's trying too hard to get pace he doesn't really have. Prest? I have my doubts but he's still quite young and may need a technique adjustment to do well against better bowlers than he faced in the young categories. The One-day cup will be a big chance for him to shine, as will it for several others who've not shown too much yet this season.
-
Right, he's done bugger all. Same as Fuller since his injury. Two liabilities at this level. At least Sweep Slog Joe did well.
-
170, not bad, we'll have to bowl well though. If we can get Lawrence and the Tubby Wicky quickly enough we may well be OK.
-
McDermott and Vince both gone now. Probably done for, not enough explosive batting left to make a decent score.
-
Not messing about. Obviously concious of possible shortened innings.
-
Usual line up so McDermott fit. Lost toss and are put in. That's a bummer if there's a likelyhood of a rain shortened game., especially with the batting powerhouses they have. We'll probably win if the game goes the distance but if it's reduced overs we'll have little chance
-
Evidently not, Donald has a broken finger and Brown has been added to the group in case McDermott isn't able to play. OS doesn't say how likely or unlikey that is though. Weather forecast isn't great for either day really. A bit better tomorrow perhaps.

There are still two 4 day games before the One Day Cup, three if you count the game against Dorset at the end of the month. Notts next week and then Essex the week after. Going back to the game that finished yesterday, I just can't help feeling that the turning point was the drop of Aldridge on 8. That taken they were 6 for about a hundred down and on the ropes with the tail exposed to bowlers who weren't yet worn down. Take that simple waste high sitter and we'd probably have been in with a chance of a win.
-
Some of them surely, but there were valuable contributions from at least half of the team over the match. At least three dreadful performances though, Weatherley, Fuller and dare I say it, Vince. Nothing much from Barker or Abbas either.
-
Good draw. At least Brown, Gubbins and Dawson stepped up. Wouldn't be at all surprised to see Vince quit 4 day cricket next season. doesn't look capable of getting his head down and slugging it out any more.
-
Absolutely clueless. Gubbins sticking around, Brown as well until he committed one of Hampshire's peche mignons, chasing a nothing ball down the leg side. Probably all wishing they'd signed on for the lastest franchise extravaganza. I see that Sams has gone there, won't be playing for Essex on Saturday then.
-
Right, we can't win this but with some sensible batting we can get a draw and 10 points, that will keep Somerset behind us in the league. So what we do not want to see here is: Wafting outside off stump, slog sweeping, iffy runs leading to run-outs, getting caught down the leg side chasing balls that should be left alone. Should be alright if we do that. Hah, Abbott opening.
-
Abbott and Organ doing the job, 2 batting points acquired now and only 50 more to avoid an eventual follow on. Ball change coming up, we'll probably be all out soon then. Ball only 12 overs old, useless object these Kookaburras.
-
Nah, they're just shite at batting. I mean Vince, when will he learn not to waft at balls a foot outside off? And Dawson, a slog sweep to deep midwicket. They know they're in the also rans for the CC this season and can't be arsed to bat properly. I'd drop them all for the next championship game.
-
Knock off the joke batting chaps !
-
Third, right ! But that's a false position isn't it because some sides have played less games. Unless we can pull off some miracle and get a draw here,Somerset and Warks will go above us and Lancs have a game less as well. We have royally screwed up on the batting line up once again and the ability of the bowlers to dig us out of trouble agaiinst good sides is waning. We'll finish 5th or 6th this time round, no great disaster but it will come about next season if we don't get some real batters at the top of the order and some younger bowlers into the side. Abbas looks hacked off most of the time and Barker isn't cutting it any more. We also need to put an end to dropping soft catches, cost us a lot in this game and against Lancs.
-
41/2 and off for rain again. I suppose we can hope for one of two things here, a 300 partnership between Vince and Gubbins or two days of wind, rain and wuthering. All other outcomes would suggest an innings defeat.
-
And Weatherley gets bowled first ball of the innings. Got nowhere near a dobby seam ball. Hants are a T20 side and nothing more, won't be until they get us a real opener, but I guess they don't come cheap so we won't.
-
Haven't watched for a while because the Tour is interesting today. But earlier on our bowling was desperately bad. No pace, no variation, just straight up and down waiting to be hit, Fuller was just painful to watch. Dawson plugged away but got nothing, organ seems to have bowled a few overs late on but is getting hit . Perhaps Holland was a better option than him. Hampshire will no doubt produce a batting debacle again and we'll lose by a shedload. Arses need to be kicked, the pitch looks flat and so do Hampshire.
-
A very poor morning for Hants so far. Awful bowling, poor field placement and another relatively straightforward chance dropped. No doubt the constant change of format between T20 and Championship doesn't really help.
-
Simple one as well. Somerset building a bit now after their poor start. Bowling at the moment not really great.
