Did Turner get any game time in the pre-season ? Didn't notice his name on the score-cards. Then again there were a lot of overs washed out once again.

I see that Crane has been loaned to Glamorgan, all formats for the coming season. Probably just as well, hardly played for us last season.

Vince having a not so great winter, average in the Big Bash and not better in the Gulf T20. Too much cricket perhaps.

So the points deduction cost us second place in the end. Even for a match that we lost. Do Essex ever get points deductions for the turnip patches that they turn out to favour their spinner? Anyway good end to the season.

Easy to say, but yesterday we were 32/4 , Vince was dropped on 16 and Dawson could have been given out caught but the umpire (and Dawson himself) thought otherwise. Yadav said he'd caught it, Dawson said oh no you didn't and the umpire went with him. So at the end of the day we got lucky this time and perhaps didn't on other occasions.

Well, a championship win at Chelmsford. Extremely well played , made a respectable first innings total, kept Essex down in their run chase and a big partnership between Vince and Dawson, when we were at 32/4, set up the win. Bring on Surrey at the Aegeas.

Well, I couldn't begin to speculate on the motivation of the players but the bowling line up for this game was just wrong, having lost the toss again. Nothing in the wicket for the slow bowlers who just got smacked around by all and sundry. So without a little more help from the weather we'll probably get beaten by an innings again. With Warks and Lancs not very far behind us on points we could easily lose 2 places in these two difficult games. Fortunately Lancs aren't getting much play though.

Probably, some rotation perhaps. As our retained list is amongst the last to be made public we don't really know yet what the plan is for next year. I can see Holland being released and maybe Crane as well if some other county is interested by him. Currie has gone on loan to Leics for their last three games so maybe he'll be off as well.

Only going with 3 seamers for this game looks to be a bad decision. Dawson is getting absolutely hammered by the Essex tail.

Bit of a poor day with the ball. We managed to get 5 Essex wickets earlier on but since tea Essex are piling on the runs. Slow bowlers looking totally ineffective.

Two down and well behind the rate. One of the great one-day cock-ups of our time.

Obviously nothing in the track for our spinners and they leaked runs regularily. Currie isn't an economical bowler and apparently we dropped the odd catch or two. We may get the 271 needed but really with them at 89/6 we shouldn't have to. Crane and Currie troubled me, I wasn't wrong.

Hope we haven't thrown this away by poor bowling choices.

But the spinners and Currie seem to have let them back into the game a bit. Still shouldn't be overly difficult though.

Great start, Leics 4 down with only 20 on the board. 3 wickets for Barker and 1 for Holland (but it was Ackermann so it must count double right!) Perhaps batting first wasn't a great choice by Leicester. But then again they're a D2 outfit and we're playing some of our D1 bowlers now.

Leics chose to bat first. We lost the toss then. Strange line-up. Currie in, Albert out. Fuller and Wheal in the 16 named yesterday but not in the XI. Weatherly in though. We'll have to see how we get on but Currie troubles me, he's sometimes a bit expensive if an opposition batter gets after him. Same as Crane.

Everybody else though. But no Vince. Actual side will probably be about the same as the semi though. Unless Fuller replaces Barker for some reason or other. Only other option I could see is Donald behind the stumps, Brown out Fuller in. We'll find out soon enough.

I was able to watch the game yesterday evening, Bein show one or two Championship games a week, those which are supposed to be the highlight games. As I've not really followed our summer transfer window I asked myself, do we actually have any experienced central defenders now? I know Bednarek is injured but what happened to Stephens ? Taking all these starlets from City just helps them out, us not so much. I mean Taylor Harwood-Bellis , what's that about then, he was utterly useless. Then later in the game we started taking off defensive players like Downes (who I know absolutely nothing about by the way) and replacing them with out and out forward players. We already had too many offensive players on the pitch to start with so that really wasn't an option. Sully ? Same as at Rennes, all huff and no end product. They bought Blas and Le Fee with the transfer fee, far better players. Why did we make Adam Armstrong captain then, he's a bit part no-hoper at the best of time, but perhaps he was just filling in yesterday. Can't really say much about Martin, know nothing about him, but the set up last night was obviously wrong.

A comedy of errors.

Batting pretty well so far today, Gubbins approaching 100, Vince on 59. We'll be declaring soon I guess. Set them about 450 from 130 overs or so.
