I understand and indeed share some of your frustration, However, I still give Pardew the benefit of the doubt because he is still building a squad and attacking on three fronts. On Saturday, I felt he accepted that Stockport were lesser opposition and put out a sub-standard team but one which he felt could still do the job. The league results (and all results) over the past 25 games have been championship winning form. Our recent history is tainted by the losses at Leeds and Colchester which on paper do not look good, and draws away from home at both Millwall and Brentford caused by failure to capitalise on our advantage. It's also very easy for us to believe that the league is the be all and end all, but in fact the management team might be asking for success in the JPT as a huge morale boost to a club who - be honest - have won absolutely nothing for 33 years! A poor run was bound to happen - looks at Leeds' recent results. However, if we now move forward and win our remaining games all of this will pale into insignificance. And with our new squad that is exactly what I anticipate we will do. We are still 6th I think on recent form, despite our 'bad results'. I do not concede the Pardew is negative as some do - 11 goals in five home games says otherwise, 5th top scorers in the league says otherwise. He is clearly having to find the right balance for the team. And while it's easy for us to say go back to 4-5-1 it was working (I myself said the same) it doesn't take managers long to 'work you out' given the TV coverage available today! So it is imperative that we have options and can play at least two systems well and even then mix it up (I noticed Holmes and Antonio switiching sides on Saturday a couple of times to do just that). You can argue with Pardew's selections and his tactics, but at the end of the season if we win the JPT, get through to the 6th round of the FA Cup and find ourselves in the play-offs, it would be very, very churlish to argue with the results. It is still too early to say Pardew is not the manager we need, given our recent form. In fact, it's preposterous to say it.

I think we've gelled incredibly. Our last 25 game form is probably the best in the world.

Two games and three sitters missed. He will score a hatful for us once he scores one, I'm sure. My point is he might take time to settle and that's fine. It's expected. That's all.
-
Quite. There seem to be a lot of people keen to ditch our most successful manager since Lawrie McMenemy. But then what do you expect in a country where education is so pitiful and chavs are actively encouraged to breed?

One fluke 7-1 reverse at Colchester...that is not 'form'. As I said, we have no idea what he inherited.

I think what they will rightly point to is that Norwich have spent very little and are cantering away with the league... And this is a valid point. But the circumstances of no two clubs are ever the same. We have no idea what Lambert inherited as a coaching staff, playing staff or infrastructure. What we do know is that we are building from the ground-up and we should therefore be pragmatic and circumspect enough to let the management team get on with it and give them a full season before we make any judgements. It simply comes down to what you view success as. For me, 5th Round the FA Cup, JPT Area Final and bordering the play-offs (with out minus ten restored) shows progress. Sure, it could be better, it could also be a great, great deal worse - look at Notts County FFS! Promotion this year would be a real result and I still predict it.

I thought he was class I have to say. And different gravy to even Hammond.

It's not just about gelling. As Pardew said on Saturday some people have to find their feet in the dressing room. Look at Barnard - here's a guy who's scored a bagful for Southend but comes here and misses a few sitters. Why? Because he has gone from being a big fish in a small pond to being a minnow in our ocean. Her endeth the lesson...

Believe it or not I am sat here in the office with one of his school friends, aged 20 and blonde

What I find so baffling is that success seems to now come so easy to some of our posters. They forget that for long periods - not just now but at the start of WGS' tenure - we could not buy a win!!!
-
I think the word you were looking for has now been edited.

Either you are lying to save face or you would like to believe this... But you know in your heart of hearts that if Southampton were at Wembley to play the world conker championships you would be there. And if, to spite yourself or someone else, you don't go, you will have your ear pinned to radio solent or sky, because THAT is the nature of supporting a club like Southampton. Which you, Duncan, know better than anyone.
-
Down negative man, down. We're going up this season at Wembley!
-
Oh FFS They'e not at Wembley too still are they?? Fecking muppets!
-
Swap Lallana for Puncheon (he could be hopeless for all we know) and I would be happy with the starting line-up.
-
If they can't pass, they can't pass. Suddenly Wotton could pick a pass because Waigo came on? Don't buy that. Barnard missed a header one yard out after about fifteen minutes. Had that gone in it would have been a different game. Sometimes you just get dragged down to your opponents level. We've seen it time and again. And you should be crediting the manager with recognising the failings and changing the line-up to win. That is a skill George Burley did not have.
-
Can you win the FA Cup twice?
-
Five?? Have I missed something? Play offs - assuming we don't go up automatically. JPT FA Cup Three??
-
Look, Wotton is not Patrick Viera, but we did absolutely brilliant with him in the team for thirty minutes against Ipswich in the 2nd half, so he is clearly not the problem. On Saturday we had pace throughout the game (Antonio was on throughout), just we lacked any fluency anywhere because we were playing pants. When Barnard came off we looked a different side because Waigo gave us energy - but everyone started playing better and the formation did not change. Explain that?? You could lay the blame for that at the manager's door, but that starting 11 could have, should have and eventually did, take Stockport apart. Wotton played no worse that anyone else in the team, they were all poor - even Waigo while playing well missed a bloody sitter and a better chance than the one he scored.
-
I for one will be over the fecking moon if we win. I backed us at 13/2 before the Charlton game!!!!!!
-
We won. And given that we have bought Barnard we surely have to give him a chance? That team was selected to win against a poor Stockport. They couldn't cut it, so the manager changed it. That's good management surely?

Davis Thomas Jaidi Fonte Harding Antonio/Waigo Spiderman Lallana Hammond Holmes Rambo Haven't seen Puncheon yet.
-
I would have Perry in my top eleven personally and Thomas. I think both have been superb for us this year.
-
That is exactly what I thought about the entire selection on Saturday - it was picked to beat a crap team.
