Knew that would come along with the "Shocking nails you've got there". Obviously this is just one of the two presents. The other one is a fantastic steam iron that looks great. -
So, bought the missus an iphone Saints case for Christmas - went to wrap it today and peeled of the £10 sticker on the outside and was shocked...

Anyone taken their kids out of term time since the new law?
Tractor_Saint replied to Tractor_Saint's topic in The Lounge
I asked my 11 year old this morning what she's doing today at school. This afternoon they are watching a kids movie followed by a table tennis tournament as it's nearly the end of term. Go figure.... -

Until the kids come back with fantastic sun tans and can't wait to do a 'show and tell' on their holiday with all their cousins I'm way too honest to call them in sick tbh and it'll be better to come clean that I don't agree with the Government position as I know a lot of teachers agree! -

If you don't pay you could get a criminal record. But if I get fined, I'll pay. -

Cheers for (most of!) the responses. I think the decision is to just write a letter to the school head the day before I take them out of school for the week so she knows where they are and then she can make the decision if she needs to find me the £120 for the two kids. The letter will be factual and explain that I know the school would not grant me taking them out of term time and also that I hope it doesn't affect my and the school's relationship as I know it's not the schools fault. A bit more background on this is that my sisters are spread across the world and when you take all the school holiday's into consideration the best week to go is at the end of June - i.e. 2 weeks before my kids break up. My 11 year old would have completed her SATs in May (she's top of almost all of subjects in her year), my 9 year old lad would probably not be doing too much 3 weeks before the end of term (He's top of the class in science & maths work but is middle of the road on writing so I continue to work with him on that). Anyhow, all in all, fine me £120 which I'll happily pay for (a) allowing my kids to spend their last holiday with all four of their cousins and (b) to save a few quid on taking them on holiday out of school term. TBH Government are targetting the wrong people - they should sort out the holiday companies who double their prices in school holidays rather than target the parents for taking their kids out of school to be able to afford a vacation. -

It's 60 quid per child per parent regardless of time away.. Thanks VFTT. kids are 8 and 11 and making sure the eldest sats are well out of the way (aiming for end of June). Sent from my GT-N7105 using Tapatalk -
I'm friends with Geoff Capes and he told me that he'd won world's strongest man before it was aired. Back in them days that was definitely ITK.
-
Don't fancy a £60 per child fine but don't fancy paying an additional £2k for a week away in the summer holidays. (there's a bit more to it than that, but it's a good summary). So, do I ask permission from the school which will pretty definitely be turned down, or just phone up the day before the holiday to tell the school I'm taking them out for a week in term time? Anyone done it? Anyone got fined?

Fair enuff for AJS to say the issue is with the way they have implemented (or not) encryption on their sat boxes but if they limit the amount of games they show then that's not what people signed up for so should be given a refund. In the end, AJS has f*cked up. It's not their customers fault it's their IT implementation. So, looking forward to getting my money back on my Egyptian VISA

Let the arguments commence Boruc 7 great game, confidence back - hope he's back soon Clyne 6 pretty strong Fonte 6 Once again solid Lovren 5 Great to have him back but should have sorted Ba out Shaw 7 A few good runs at their defence, would play him every game Spiderman 6 Wasn't a yellow, did OK Wanyama 4 Very poor. Get's caught way too often, bad passing Ward-Prowse 7 Good play maker, Spiderman could learn a lot Lallana 6 Had some good 1, 2s Rodriguez 5 Good poachers goal but apart from that, seemed uninterested at times Osvaldo 4 Everyone keeps telling me he just needs to adjust to our game. But when? Subs Lambert - Think I saw him twice on the ball - can't rate Gazza - prefer Boruc obviously but wasn't at fault for the goal and had a good save S Davies - did OK -
I didnt read that as closure - they'll contact all card holders over the next few weeks to get the sat boxes sorted for January and then it'll all be back on in January. The issue they have is with the pubs that have AJS cards which can basically be unregistered so you can buy the card and chuck it in anywhere you want. Internet subs tend to be individuals watching at home. Come January it'll all be back on again. If not I'll be asking for my money back.

No idea what happened yesterday cos I was at the game but today's AJS feed is absolutely crystal clear. Watched both games and they were fantastic (well, still shouting at Cardiff to do em over)

I was there! I couldn't get tickets though but then I received this tweet... Should have done the lottery.... -
One way to prove it... have you got an electric kettle? If so, plug it into the same plug as the iron, turn it on, does it trip the circuit? If so, you've got a dodgy circuit. If not, it's the iron BTW, if you're getting a new iron spend the money and get a steam iron (around £100) rather than a normal iron. It's expensive, yes, but it cuts through shirts like it's a hot knife through butter (so the wife tells me).
