If we got close to 20m I can’t see them turning that down Would tick a very many boxes and probably be able to step up
-
Would you rather they sold cheap and bought big then ? Bit of an odd hill to die on
-
You can’t say they’ve not spent, they’ve not spent well but have spent
-
Last years transfer dealings were probably an all timer as far as how not to do it Fernandes the only decent one
-
I dunno… Im not sure we should be repeating past mistakes tbh I certainly wouldn’t be signing him after spunking 9m on Downs It puts us in the same predicament that if we spend 25m on Sargeant who likely won’t cut it in the prem we then have to shift and find that money again, which weakens our PSR position PSR is such a shit system it just absolutely weakens everyone’s position not in the top 6 of the PL
-
Id take Fellows all day, and yeah, of all the Champ talent Id say he could step up I think there’s a good player in Downs tbf, needs more game time
-
You said - Azaz is indeed what I would call a good signing but he's about what I'd expect us to sign so nothing extraordinarily impressive about it. So yes.. I was right
-
I don’t think Quarshie was a first team signing for a start Downs was, and I think so far he looks dissapointing but its very early days, maybe we could of pushed for Ivanovic, not sure what Millwall would want.. Sargeant ? Norwich want 25m apparently which is frankly mental My point is, we’re in the Champ, we aren’t really signing better than Azaz or Rudoni, Id even take Brooks on loan if he becomes available Anyone expecting more than that is delusional
-
Missed the points entirely I see We can all name names, but the reality is very different I can give you Van Ejwick, Hamer, Sargeant… thats easy… none of them likely to move without outrageous fee’s or late next week if the prem moves don’t materialise
-
You literally called Azaz uninspiring or something of the sort, cba to go back to it Rudoni … tried, wants prem Fellows … linked Furehashi … maybe, not overly hyped by him tbh, Celtic fans were saying he was poor last couple of seasons and was gash at Stade Rennais Hamer …. See previous post Brownhill … Wants prem and an outrageous signing on fee apparently So no… short of chucking names out there its not all that easy
-
Could we fuck 😂 There’s no way in hell he’s not waiting for a Prem opportunity You named two names, ones not that great and the other every club in the division would want, currently linked to Leeds, Everton and PSV for 18mish… its not happening
-
They want 25m for him, which is mental for a Championship striker
-
You think we’d of realistically signed the Champ POTS from a promotion rival that has had Prem interest before the last week of the window ? Sorba Thomas ? Yeah not for me, you’ve picked him off the back of one game, he’s quick, but was average at Nantesannd average for Huddersfield previously
-
Again… so you’re slamming the recruitment team for going for players without actually pointing at any viabe alternatives ”we can do better than him” ”ok name him then” ”Well I can’t, but it not up to me” Just lazy bollocks really, SR have been awful, and I slammed them last year, Fraser, Lallana, BBD, Archer… I literally said we’re building for the championship not prem. But now ? I can’t for the life of me see how looking at Azaz is ‘boring’ or run of the mill Its just moaning for moaning sake
-
Gus Hamer I’d take, but I imagine he’s in the Rudoni camp, waiting for a prem call Id actually take a punt on him, but ironically not a player Id see moving to another Champ side until the end of the window if at all
-
But this is just a lazy resposte… you can’t slam names like Azaz or the St Pauli guy, or even Downs without actually offering alternative targets
-
Maybe you’re right regarding Alcaraz but he just wasn’t good enough here, at the time and we brought in Fernandes as his replacement, and before anyone pipes up, he was a replacement we wouldn’t of had both The Armenian thing, I agree, after a week of the back and forth it seemed dead, but its evidence we are trying for targets, unfortunately we’re a Champ team and turning into a yo yo one at that.. maybe if SR hadn’t royally fucked two Prem campaigns we could be choosers not beggars
-
Who would you suggest we buy better than Azaz for example ? Which striker is available ? What wingers would you buy ? No… thats not my job bullshit, im genuinely curious
-
Azaz and a decent winger or two and Id be happy tbh, not really sure what anyone was expecting Spertsyan seemed a bit above us, we pushed but it never really happened, not sure who exactly people are expecting a Championship club to sign who would be better than Rudoni or Azaz ? Edit - Obviously Id like us to sign a decent striker, Downs doesn’t fill me with confidence but Ill give him the benefit of the doubt.. there’s just no real options… 25m for Josh Sargeant ? No fucking thanks
-
Currently we have Fernandes, a better Charles and Jay Robinson.. Im in the ‘we have a better squad’ camp Im afraid But yeah Bazunu isn’t that bad Any keeper in Martins teams will look dogshit Ramsdale had let in 22 by Christmas and Butlands let in 11 already
-
My point really is, how the fuck did he end up at stoke
-
I think eventually we’d see Downs or Stewart as the 9 with Downs making the most sense, he is high energy/high workrate like Armstrong albeit in a bigger frame to lead the line Still’s suggested he only plays 5 back due to a lack of wingers, so think hopefully thats addressed soon and the RW debate is put to bed with a new name I guess, although I think Arma or Fraser could both do a job if needed. On paper Arma firs RW better but Fraser looks very good atm I’d still worry about a 343 or 442 personally as it means you still stick with a two man midfield which does tend to be dominated in the modern game unless you have forwards good at receiving the ball in the half spaces, or CBs that can progress (we have the latter) So personally if it was me Id employ 433 or 4231 and on the current squad make up Id say we’re better suited to a 433
-
FWIW I don’t think Baz is much better than mid table, maybe he’ll prove me wrong either way (better/worse) only time will tell, but I do think he’s started well McCarthy I agree is shite, he’s somehow managed to get us to pay him for 10 years, but we’re stuck with him, a 2 year deal was a lovely Wilcox leaving gift, no idea why that was sanctioned, especially if we’d lined up Ramsdale Johansson is an odd one, no idea how nobody took a punt on him at 1m, its obvious he’s an excellent keeper, there must be a downside somewhere but ive not found it yet TLDR (as i can’t be arsed to carry on); - I don’t think Baz is great and definately don’t rate McCarthy but both should be enough to get us promoted (not bad enough to cost us IMHO) - We’re stuck with both with the ghost of Ramsdale over head - Signing another 1st choice keeper probably a waste of money - Long is probably shit but its a necessity signing, not likely to play
-
Obviously we’ve both seen Sanda out the door, so maybe we look to move on Wood or Edwards, especially if we go back 4 Arguably if we stick back 5 then ‘maybe’ we’d need the extra cover, hard to tell really.. Id actually of expected us to keep Sanda as the back up tbh
-
I’ll reply to both of these, and its the last ill say on the subject as it just doesn’t sink in… We have Bazunu and McCarthy, both probably earning 50k a week, we also have Ramsdale technically still on the books and potentially returning, although unlikely its there As such.. what is the point on signing a further keeper ? That may or may not then need to be replaced if and when we get promoted ? Because I know for a fact if we signed a champ keeper now for X a week on a 4 year deal, he’d get pelters when he fails in the prem Its unrealistic, better off saving our money for if/when we go up, or next year when we know whats happening with Ramsdale and we don’t have McCarthy on the books Bringing in a third keeper on loan only further validates this position imo, and allows us flexibility next year when the position is clearer And yes, I think Bazunu is good enough that we can get promoted with him and Ive seen enough already to further think that, if Im wrong Ill be the first to admit it Id rather this year we strengthen the front line effectively
