Thats a very pessimistic view of the interview as a whole I’m warming to RM actually, if he is backed properly it could be a good fit for us especially in the direction we want to take
-
Well yeah but thats not what you were saying I don’t mind possession systems, I prefer high pressing systems although they’re harder to coach to a degree.. but yes, possession for possessions sake is a bit wasted you have to have a threat
-
Ive just read that as he is covering his bases tbh, he literally said in his interview today that the club have told him they’ll review after Liverpool and he hasn’t been told anything about a new manager, he was pretty specific
-
I mean, this is quite a simplistic and basic view, playing out from the back has a lot of advantages especially if we want to be a possession based team, the games moved on from lumping it forward That said though it’ll be interesting to see who we buy and what we do if that is the plan because whenever we actually have to pass it about we look absolutely woeful
-
I just heard Selles’ comments… and I’ll be honest, it clearly hasn’t worked here but other than the waffle he doesn’t seem a bad bloke Stringing him on and not explaining the situation is bad form
-
Its a great post, Ive done a fair amount of reading myself and I think he’s a good manager, certainly better than a lot of the bedwetters in here believe But.. that said… I STILL think we have a huge task on our hands next year with an on field/off field rebuild so I am a little concerned that we’ll have Rasmus, a relatively inexperienced DoF in Wilcox and a manager thats never managed a club with our level of expectation
-
Well you just know he’ll beat us 3-0 and go absolutely mental infront of us
-
Wilcox was signed because of his experience of multi-club models not necessarily because of a possession based system but I think the idea was to move away from the high press and into something more manageable long term (season wise). Possession I ‘believe’ has now been settled on more due to our relegation Not that I’m disagreeing, the footballing strategy has been fucking abysmal

I look at this and think… who the fuck can be bothered with that level of nag/effort ? The security guard that used to work at one of the depots I go to would happily tell us he had two families… one that thought he worked nights and one days… FUUUUUCK that -
I doubt we’ll look at Gerrard, think Vieira was on certain lists previous to Palace which could tie in with the rumours we’ve talked to him but dunno
-
I don’t mate sorry, although, Id be surprised if we are at any advanced stage in negotiations, I wouldn’t expect any announcements for atleast a couple of weeks so Im not losing my mind about the RM rumours yet
-
Said this before, still think it now We can and should be looking for more
-
My point was, when, as a club, and players have been trained to act on instinct it made little sense to me, to then change to a guy with a vastly different philosophy, the only time that really works is if you broke the glass and dug out a footballing dinosaur that specialises in defensive action. If we wanted to mess around with the wally from thr valleys then do it in pre season I’m not saying Selles was the answer because clearly he fucking wasn’t but for me, get someone like Marsch, Jaissle, Tedesco etc that play a red bull/bielsa disciple based system but can make the changes needed
-
Wilcox is coming in because we want a multiclub model similar to CFG, thats why we have prioritised senior ex City backroom staff As per possession based systems, it makes sense, high press isn’t really sustainable unless you have a squad large enough to do it… and we don’t, possession systems are also usually more likely to achieve promotion from the championship, so all of that makes sense Agree with Ralph to Jones to Selles… to be fair I said at the time a mid season complete change of tactical philosophy was likely suicide… it was, it made sense to go back to Selles, he knew the players and the systems.. he was just shit
-
Yeah exactly this, I’m not pretending we’re bigger then Sheff Wed etc… infact I don’t want to get into a club size argument that nobody other than fans give much of a fuck about We are a freshly relegated Prem side with good pedigree, backed by wealthy owners with ambitions (but arguably zero sense) In that case, we carry a decent stature, but like CB said we need to capitalise on that within 2 years
-
He’s done a good job in every management role he’s had, including a Utd caretaker stint He’s sat and learnt off of some elite managers Was an elite level footballer Highly thought of in the game and transformed Boro this year Isn’t a bumbling idiot Other than that they’re basically the same
-
I was talking about the Lallana leaving Brighton for us bit tbf
-
Decent player, plays at No.10 though and I’m not convinced we need one
-
With Yoshi as assistant manager
-
I mean… its pretty ludicrous tbf
-
The players liked Jones a lot, but after a couple of weeks it became apparent that his training and coaching just wasn’t up to scratch, he also sidelined Selles who the players also had a lit of respect for. I get what you say about the players not being committed enough, and I think if they were both us and Jones would of faired much better but overall Im not convinced the Jones appointment would have worked at any point (but he’d of had more chance if he was installed in the summer) From what I know Ankerson is/will be moving back to his SR overall strategy role, but is involved in the manager search as basically everyone else is gone (Id expect Semmens will be moving on too) Im not really sure of Wilcox, got no info there, Im hopeful that he is up to the task, he was basically hired to help develop a structure like CFG so he’ll be working close to Rasmus I think As per Rasmus… yes.. Ive met him and no I don’t expect he’ll be able to keep his hands off, I personally wasn’t a fan of what I saw and yes you can see his arrogance which is a complete personality difference to Crocker/Semmens TBF Ive not heard any manager names so far. Im not personally sure what to make of Carrick, I think Id actually be quite excited to have him if we weren’t such a fucking mess
-
Yeah agree, Diallo and Lyanco look the obvious choices.. maybe Onuachu in loan Personally I don’t see Sulemana pitching up in Turkey but who knows 🤷♀️
-
Because he’s being talked about quite a bit I thought Id do a bit of background research… I’m not actually against Carrick, I like him (I even like him slightly more after the 30 or so mins of reading I just did) I think he’s likely a good fit for the style we’re looking to take moving forward I still think we need a strong character that can help shape the club moving forward though… this is a good watch for those that want a quick snapshot
-
Transformation or revolution, however you want to frame it its significant We effectively have an entirely new board, without many heads of departments and even beyond that have lost a significant number of senior staff of significance within the club too I too want us to bounce straight back and the whispers around Staplewood is that is the expectation BUT Im concerned that there is so much to get done in 90 days
