And another Uruguayan journalist has just tweeted that Liverpool have come in with a new bid for Ramirez! And that soon his arrival at Liverpool will be confirmed. Hmmm...
-
What exactly does agent Pablo Bentancur have to do with the Gaston Ramirez negotations again? It seems he has been accused of being somehow part of a "VIP prostitution ring", sending Uruguayan "models" to Italy: http://74.204.167.231/telemundo/noticia/31480_Investigan-otra-red-de-prostitucion/ (in Spanish) So it looks like he doesn't just deal with finding football talent for the European market, ha! Not totally relevant I guess, but just shows the kind of people Saints are having to deal with.
-
Right, but he also commented that his news is what they are saying in England. Not Uruguay. So it doesn't look like it comes from a source in Uruguay.
-
He then followed this up with "it's what they are saying in England". He knows nothing new.
-
Ah, crap. He has now replied again clarifying "that is what they are saying in England". So it seems he knows nothing new.
-
Yep, I think you're right there. Looks like a fanzine, probably best ignored. Hopefully the Uruguayan journalist who just tweeted the deal is done is right (although I am hoping also he got pounds and euros mixed up!)
-
A Uruguayan journalist (for one of their biggest newspapers), https://twitter.com/josMastandrea, has just tweeted the deal has been completed, for 18 million pounds, not euros :-/
-
Despite being from a twitter account called CalcioSphera about Italian football, the tweet is in Spanish. And a far more common translation would be that the sale is blocked, rather than locked.
-
Locked is one possible translation, but far more common meanings would be blocked or obstructed.
-
No idea about the reliability of the source, or where/when they get their info, but this tweet about 10 minutes ago isn't positive: https://twitter.com/CalcioSphera Gastón Ramírez-Southampton: Bloqueada la venta del jugador del Bologna por un porcentaje (30%) del jugador que pertenece a Peñarol. It looks like that says the sale of the player has been blocked, due to the 30% part owned by Peñarol.

That was just the beginning. Rioplatense Spanish for beginners part 2 will commence after Gaston has signed and we need to start teaching "Soy Celeste" to the Northam.
-
Yep, as I've posted about earlier in this thread, Rioplatense is distinct from Spanish spoken in the rest of South America and Spain. Mainly in pronunciation (a shhh sound for the letter Y and the double L) and grammar (vos instead of tu, ustedes used instead of vosotros, and slightly different verb conjugations to go with that). But there is no lisping. Unless you think shhhhhhh-ing sounds lispy. Which it doesn't. Oh, and while Spanish here is referred to as castellano, that does not mean it has anything to do with Castilian Spanish from Spain.
-
No they don't! And no lisps in Spanish anywhere in South America, as far as know. Source: I live here

No idea. Ok, ok, it's a fair cop, I made it all up, infract me.

Like the sound of that. And Nixon has a good record of calling Saints news recently. Hope he's right and we can get Williams on the bus.
-
I'm outraged at your slander against my my character. Unless you can prove my swimming excursion to Uruguay is a lie, I fully expect the mods to punish your baseless accusations against me.
-
OK, I'll add some on the ground news. I just swam across the river from Buenos Aires to Uruguay and spoke to the club president of Peñarol and Gaston's family. They both confirmed he has signed, awaiting confirmation from Cortese of a life supply of Fray Bentos pies for Gaston's dog.
-
Bad analogy. Geordies speak with a Geordie accent, and some local slang. Rioplatense has different grammar and basic pronunciation differences to Spanish, in addition to its accent and slang. :-)
-
Well MLG, he isn't far wrong here, in Uruguay and also in and around Buenos Aires (Argentina), they speak a form of Spanish that is very different to the Spanish spoken in mainland Spain and the rest of the Spanish speaking world. It's called Rioplatense, but some people refer to it as Uruguayan, or Argentine, depending on which side of the Rio de la Plata you happen to be.
-
Why is Gaston, a Spanish speaker, tweeting in Portuguese? To hide his perving over the norks from his wife? ;-)

Hopefully that's what he means and he just hasn't phrased it very well. -

Exactly. Not a good start. Do we know if these social media accounts are definitely him? -

He says on Facebook (if that really is him on there) that he will be playing against Man Utd: Great, but I don't think Adkins or Cortese will be happy if they see that! -
Oops. That should of course have read "it is impossible to claim that NO fans who dislike Guly are discriminating against his colour and/or nationality". But I can't edit my post as I am not a full member, despite have paid my subscription renewal to Saintsweb by PayPal over a month ago. But no one replies to my repeated messages asking to be made a full member again. And this is my last post of the day, with the 3 post limit. Doubt anyone will see this. Thanks for nothing Saintsweb!
