Maybe we could do something as a tribute for next home game?
Dave Benson Phillips replied to St Marco's topic in The Saints
I imagine the club will do a mosaic with "R.I.P Markus" on. On another note... can't we just have one 'tribute' thread rather than lots of people trying to be the one and publicise their own thoughts? Why not just go to the stadium, lay some flowers or a scarf over the weekend, buy a ticket for the Orient game and turn up/take part in any memorial that the club decide is appropriate for him? Or is that too simple? -
It's only natural people will immediately speculate on the club and what will happen with it. Nothing wrong with that. Markus had died, we will all have our opportunity to pay our respects to him and his family... there is only so much conversation you can have about death, it's natural that the conversation will progress to what will happen in the future.
-
There's some more irony in that post. I think we should leave it now...
-
Pet hate of mine you see SM... along with all the people starting 'R.I.P Markus' and 'Build a statue for Markus' groups on facebook. I absolutely hate attention seekers who jump on the back of someone elses death to give themselves a meaning in life. I have no opinion on whether it is right or wrong to postpone the game. Why? Because I didn't know him personally, I was neither his friend, family colleague or employee. So whether they decide to postpone the game, it's got absolutely fook all to do with me and it's not my place to judge. So whatever they decide is fine by me. It is not for me or you to decide whether it is over the top or not... neither you nor me or anyone else on this board no how close the staff at St Marys were to Markus. Whatever the club do is fine by me with regards to this, as long as we get the opportunity by way or a memorial of sorts, be it before/after a game or a seperate service, to pay our respects and give thanks to Markus.

It's quite obvious even to most Saintsweb members the point I am making. There are plenty of people whom have never met Liebherr or have any connection with him that has having a whinge or questioning why the match is postponed. The decision lies firmly with the club, THEY are the people who are friends and colleagues of Mr Liebherr, not us, so we should respect what the club decides to do... in this case, postpone the match. Once again it says something about our fans... MK Dons fans are not moaning, Daggers fans are not moaning about their game being postponed... yet our support are taking the time to have a moan at the MK match being postponed. Unbelievable. I bet if I go back through yours/other peoples posts you will be busy defending the clubs decision to remove the TBT saying " we don't know what the reasons are, maybe the family wanted it this way? Maybe we should respect what the club decide? " etc etc... How ironic now that the same people are now questioning the clubs actions in choosing a way of remembering/mourning/respecting Liebherr.

Can you just seriously grow up and give it a rest. You are obsessed with me... it's disturbing. You have my contact details ( or can get them ) if you are that desperate. How about you keep your points scoring and petty little comments to yourself, especially on a day such as today. Luckily you can't respond to this or inflict anyone with your weird posts until tommorow lunchtime.

Sour... if you have an issue with me, how about taking it up by PM or even a thread in TMS instead of trying to get a bite on this thread, given the subject? Seems to be that me, as apparantly the arrogant, egotistic attention seeking c*nt is alot more capable of showing respect that some of you super perfect Saints fans.
-
Oh my! Not the cyber-teacher-warrior?
-
I realise that now, so self-pwned myself to prevent him being able to. Advance tickets are always a punt though to be fair... there could have been any number of other reasons why the game was postponed. If you want to save a few quid by booking in advance and commiting yourself, so be it. Nobody other than the club can make the call on whether they feel it is right to postpone the match. P.S - Anyone got any spare tickets to the T20 Finals day they want to sell seeing as MK is now off?
-
I would suggest you 'shut your face' and read the thread. You 'might' feel the need to backtrack once you have seen the post on the previous thread where someone stated they have phoned up the ticket office and refunds will be offered. Edit: You are on about trains. OK, I will shut my face too.

Would be nice to see the whole area outside the front of St Marys filled with scarfs/flowers etc. Never been one for public mourning or the 'scouser way', but personally I am going to make the effort to pop up there tommorow and pay my respects. Hopefully everyone else does as well... to me that would be a fitting short-term tribute to the man. And from a completely selfish point of view... if the Liebherr family see how respected and loved the guy is, it might just help them decide to get more involved with his football club, or at the very least... keep it.

Another cheap shot on the back of Liebherrs death. Let me go on record and say something, which says alot more about me than people like The Delldays and Secret Site Agent. Now is not the time for petty pro/anti Cortese squablling, and not childish subtle remarks such as those of Secret Site Agent. I have strong opinions on the subject still, probably even more so now after this tragedy, but I will keep them well away from the forums for the time being, whilst the club is in mourning of the death of the one and only man who rescued Southampton FC. Considering I am supposed to be one of the most opinionated and 'controversial' posters on here, others would do well to follow my example and keep the petty and childish comments off the forum, if only for a few days? Edit: Fair play SSA, I see you have taken it back.
-
The only 'permanent' options would be renaming a road or a landmark in Southampton. Renaming the stadium / stand / training complex etc will not be permanent and future owners may well remove Liebherrs name from the name of a stadium or stand in place of sponsor in the future ( or just revert them back to their former names ). At least with a road/landmark named after him, it will remain for generations.
-
No, no single person is bigger than 125 years of history and the millions of people who have made that history, regardless of what they have done for the club. Liebherr needs to be remembered by Southampton for generations, but renaming the stadium is no appropriate. Let's also not forget that we won't be in St Marys forever, nor will Liebherrs family own Saints forever. What is to stop a new owner changing the name back to St Marys Stadium? Or getting a sponsor for the stadium? Much better to have a memorial that new owners in the future cannot remove, and Liebherr can quite rightly remain in the Southampton community by name for generations and generations.
-
Not getting in to an argument. If the club feel it right to postpone the game then fair play to them, I support it 100%. Quite frankly it's got fook all to do with any of us who didn't know Markus personally. That's my final comment on the subject.
-
Personally I think everyone has the right to grieve in any way which they see suitable. We don't know the 'real' reasons for the postponement. I imagine the probate issues are a real headache but who knows?! I am the sort of person that doesn't grieve... mainly through my previous job... I am much more of a 'appreciate and celebrate' sort of person. Having said that, he was the owner of our club and saviour... so I think he warrants a period of mourning.
-
Do you know there are no refunds available? MK Dons are offering refunds, so I assume you can get them from there?
-
We know he was healthy enough to be meeting fans etc in Switzerland less than a month ago... and there was no suggestion that he was in seriously bad health. Regardless of this, probate is an issue for a normal individual, let alone one of the richest men in Europe. There is only so much planning you can do for death... ... and yes, shock horror, this is me sticking up for the club.
-
Not sure that is the only reason. It is much more fitting for our next game to be a home game to allow people to pay their respects. Let's also not forget that administration wise there is now a very complexed probate issue to sort out... maybe they also needed time to get on top of things regarding that and don't need the distraction of an away game? There are not many 'sole owners' in UK football and very few if any, that have ever suddenly passed away... none of us know how much work is involved behind the scenes. Good call I say, and hope for a sell-out against Leyton Orient.
-
I don't believe that renaming the stadium is the right tribute. Markus Liebherr Way in place of Brittania Road and the Itchen Bridge renamed Liebherr Bridge in my opinion would be more fitting. St Mary's is part of our history and where our name derives from. Also, Southampton won't play at St Marys forever. Much better to have a memorial which lasts for generations.
-
What happens with transfers? The club are effectively in probate now? As a result assets frozen? Meaning there is no cash to buy?
-
Right, allow me to use my only other post of the day to once again prove your halfwit blind Cortese loving posts. I will spell out the differences in simple terms, for people like yourself. It is ironic that SFC used to rely on the Echo to get snaps for matches, now the club are forcing the Echo to rely on Saints to get snaps of the games so they can make some money. I would call that VERY ironic. Also... it is unprecendented. Because Celtic AND Bristol Rovers done it in a completely different way. Bristol Rovers banned agencies, but still allowed local press of home and away team into the stadium. Link? http://www.epuk.org/News/669/bristol-rovers-ban Celtic allowed photographers in, but wanted to retain the copyright of any pictures taken in the stadium, meaning they could not be sold on without Celtics permission, for local papers it was to be business as usual ( although all press stuck together and Celtic were forced to back down ) Link? http://www.epuk.org/News/212/newspapers-united-1-celtic-0 and on to Saints... ... who are banning every local, national and agency photographer in the land from entering the stadium. Nobody can avoid paying SFC for the photos and no publications can enter St Marys with a camera. At both Celtic and Bristol Rovers, local press reporting was not affected. So.... I think we can safely say the move was indeed 'unprecendented' by Saints... NOBODY has EVER had the neck to try and impose a complete press blackout of photography. So Matthew Le God, I hope you now realise how daft and blindly in love with Cortese you look. If you are going to stick up for him, at least do some research other than trying to shout down anyone who opposed with your view with rubbish.
-
This will just drag on and on and on and on because I don't see Cortese as the type to sit back and admit he is wrong which is the only way the press will back off. We are now The Suns little pet joke, and they will use us as an excuse to take the p!ss as often as they can. All of you that say " Ahh the scum is a joke paper anyway, who cares what they think " .... the sell up to 4 million papers in the UK every day, so that is a massive readership to make us and our chairman look like complete c*nts. I don't see it affecting their readership in this area, if anything it has probably boosted sales for them, with people buying a copy each morning. Come on... admit it, how many of you non-Sun readers bought a copy today to see what they have done with the report? The views on this forum are extreme 'pro' or 'anti' in general... pretty much every person away from this forum in the last week or so I have spoken to agrees Cortese is a complete arrogant tosser... of course most are not bothered enough to do anything about it... but Cortese is slowly digging his own grave. I haven't met a single person away from this forum who doesn't think The Suns hate campaign against us is funny as f*ck, whilst being a little bit embarrassing and bad PR for the club. I haven't met a single person that thinks The Sun are being slightly out of order. It's nothing to do with the payments in my opinion, it's to do with freedom of press and Cortese thinking that he can control every last detail that comes out of the club, and can manipulate what is written about the club. This is naive and just won't wash with the British Press. Look through the Saints gallery... if there was a controversial handball... would they put it in the gallery? Would they have given the press pictures of a Prutton style attack on the ref? Would they show opposition chances etc? Images of any trouble inside/outside the stadium etc etc... No... course they wouldn't. Banning the press photographers means they get to censor and approve images before they are distributed. As a League 1 team our photo's have a minimal commercial value to the national media at the moment and the papers will just do without them. This will in turn have an effect on Corporate Sponsorship because of the less exposure, not to mention the 'bad name' that the SFC brand is being tagged with in the national press. Businesses do not want their brand associated with a Football Club which is ridiculed daily in the press and won't want to work with a person like Cortese. Not the wisest decision from Cortese when his Marketing managers first task in only a couple of weeks will be to find a shirt sponsor for next season. Noticed the lack of sponsorships around the perimiter last night? Before anyone says about recession... have a look round some of the away stadiums this season... seems only us are struggling... I wonder why?
