You are Bearsy in disguise, arent you ? -
FFS, nightwaatchmen NEVER work. Why do England persist in using them ???

Do we have genuine cash-flow problems ?

Astute class subs : Question for DellDays

I gave one example already and you ignored it. If you dont like digs, try responding in a normal adult manner and without the patronising air. You changed the subject from the subs to ships, and I tried to ask you about a scenario which, though now currently unlikely, may have been in the design thinking. If there are no scenarios for high speed in subs, why are American and Russian subs capable of higher speeds than ours ? I know the reasons for not going fast, such as radiated noise and stripping the anechoic tiles from the hull. But emergencies still occur (and seemed to have happened often in the last 10-15 years) -

I am not sure he does any more, outside of the galley at least. -
Well, I would like to think that the vast majority of my 22,000 posts are consistent with this agenda.

The clubs attitude is quite baffling. Why are we determined to fall out with everybody ? And the non-attendance is for me not only an admission of guilt, but also indicates that SFC were determined just to be bloody difficult for as long as possible. Not that NC has somehow a problem with the quality of the job, or the club would have defended. Troubling.

Surely the -10 will be applied as soon as this sale to PST is completed and they exit admin ?

Perhaps, in your opinion. But now no-one can argue about why I approach a certain discussion in a certain way.

Yes, sadly that is the stock default reaction on here if you dare to think in an individual manner.

Astute class subs : Question for DellDays

Trafalgars - 32kts top speed Astutes - Less than 29kts design target top speed. Progress or "limping" ? I know which one I would describe it as. As for your stupid goal-post moving comment about the carriers, well up until a few months ago we were back on CATOBAR designs with F-35Cs, and the QE carriers were originally supposed to be re-configurable so I asked the perfectly reasonable question as to whether launch speed might have been design factor for Astutes, if they really were to provide escort duty. But as usual you assume that arrogant patronising air like you are talking to a clueless child and ruin what might have been an interesting discussion. -
I dont have a problem with this thread and showing my own hand, so long as the guidelines are kept (which they wont be, of course...)

B*ll*cks. You really dont get it. I am desperate for Saints to do well, but am in control of my emotions enough to tell that the club set-up currently cannot deliver that. I would love for the team to prove me wrong.
-
My Agenda: Saints are a fantastic club with a fearsome reputation of performing above expectations, achieving over-the-odds, and scaring the sh*t out of much bigger opposition, and I for one am proud that my team has such a "notorious" reputation. This reputation has been damaged in the post-MLT era by laziness, arrogance, over-confidence and lack of ambition amongst club personnel and fans alike. We roll over and let w*nky clubs tickle our tummy, and have a disgusting recent track record of grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory and allowing kack clubs end their massive losing run. I want the hunger and fear factor back. Starting with proper intense pre-season preparations and determined proactive transfer activity.
-
Putting aside the childish dig, lets deal with a couple of your points. How do you know what their ambition is/was and if we are ahead of it ? Yes, they had a plan. That didnt mean the plan had to run its full-length. And also it appears spending was increased unexpectedly during January 2010 in an attempt to win promotion that Spring. Cortese was clearly p*ssed at Pardew's attitude of focusing on cups rather than pushing for League1, he didnt think "maybe next year, we have 4 more years" Yes, there is nothing wrong with looking back in amazement and looking forward in hope. But that doesnt mean we should act like star-struck Barbie doll-toting pre-pubescent girlies who have just won a magazine competition to meet Justin Bieber for 10mins. We have fought to get here, we deserve it, we've spent sh*t loads of money to consolidate it, so lets see the manager and players perform and deliver.

Astute class subs : Question for DellDays

OK, so you tell me what speed is required by the US carriers in order to get aircraft like Super Hornets into the air then. Its a well known fact that carriers turn into the wind and hit top speed in order to get as much lift as possible for the aircraft and reduce their take-off fuel consumption. -

Under 10kts when on station/patrol, I suspect, in order to make them silent. -

I am beginning to wonder if you know what you are talking about. If a ships reactor and turbines are mis-matched, so that the performance of one is being unexpectedly restricted by the other, I call that a text-book definition of "limping". Again, Astutes are designed to not need refuelling during their lifetime. So WTF are you talking about need to restrict fuel consumption ? Does the Astute class sub reach its design criteria for top speed or not ? -
If we win, hope flickers still and we live to fight another week.
-
Lawro predicting a QPR win. If we lose, I think our fate is sealed. We cant even beat the bottom team with no wins...

Whats Lawro saying today ? EDIT: Ooops...

I'd be more worried about the comments about there not being enough storage space for the crew. -

What fuel ? Astutes are supposed to be fuelled sufficiently for their lifetime. -

Are we talking operationally or capability ? Wikipedia claims a Trafalgar is capable of 32kts submerged. Seems from the release bumpf about Ambush that Astute subs are limping along at 25Kts. That doesnt sound like progress to me. Yes, there may not be many operational scenarios where max speed is required (modern torpedos are up to 45-50kts, so there is sod-all chance of out-running one in either case), since stealth is the key to operational capability, but in an emergency such as a crash surface ?
