Fair play mate, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree here mate. I just can't see it, England have played here, Bon jovi, Elton John and the pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels have been packed, don't see an out of town stadium having those facilities! SMS is great, its in the middle of town, great for Red Funnel, Hythe ferry and central train station, great for pre & post match beer and food...................hands of sms :-)
-
It's not an argument and it's certainly not a "I'm al right fook the rest of you" post either, just an opinion. If you move the ground your still going to have traffic problems. I'm just asking how could moving the stadium improve our day out @ the footy?
-
BUT its soulless, and to be fair i think your being a bit mean to sms, I'm sure if you stood sms up against Burnley, Fulham, Hull, Portsmuff, Everton, wigan, Blackburn it would be better!
-
To be honest and I'm not trying to be argumentive but no, I don't see it. If I want to see a film I got to leisure world, bowling I'll got to Eastliegh, a night out I'll go to town, can't see what they could build that'd make me want to drive 5 miles out of town. More to the point I think it could actually ruin the ground. My whole day starts at 11, a pint up my local, taxi to the Bedfords, walk down to the Ostrich, walk down to the Alfred then walk to the ground, its ideal!
-
Please explain what your looking for from a football stadium? I've got a great seat, nothing disturbing my view, when I have a p1ss i'm not standing in someone else's p1ss and I can have a pint and a pie and watch the first half high lights on the tv's, it'll do for me! Ps. and on a special occasion I can ponce up a bit in the Micky Channon suite or even a box!
-
I think the problem is we are all taking what we have for granted a little. I've seen it time and again, away fans in ore of sms. its a great stadium, if your bored and suggest change your seat or team because I'm having a great time there!
-
I don't see what future revenue would be generated from an "out of town" stadium as opposed to SMS. Out of town would have no hotels, resturaunts, bars etc. Yes you could build all that but who would use them when nothing was on? Lets be honest, would you phone your mates a nd say "i've an idea, lets all go to sms Friday night, lets get a taxi 4 miles out of town to a big field for a pint" I wouldn't!
-
It would only be easier to get to and from if you had a 2 mile slip road otherwise the m27 would be kaos. As I've already posted, start selling sms to tour operators, get big stadium bands playing here, premier league darts!
-
We are in a state of the art stadium, we are set up for decades. Yes increase the capacity, make more use of the stadium, why are we not on the stadium tour agena's? Why is Oasis playing the rose bowl and not sms? Contact premier league darts and suggest sms for a venue, sell it to them "this will be a first for darts, imagine 40k darts fans at 1 venue, out door darts, come lads, imagine" says Mr. Cortesse to Prem Darts execs etc!
-
Still missing the point mate, SMS can be extended to 55k, it's cheaper to extend, everything is already in place, sms is now part of our great city, so again, why move??
-
Thats what all the protesters said about Ikea, yet now its built everyone is amazed the expected traffic kaos has never materialised! Not forgetting IF the ground was extended we'd probably be in the premiership and the club would hopefully bring in loads of initiatives ie, free bus travel with your ticket, open a train station by the bike sheds or opposite the Alfred, free shuttle buses from central station, red funnel etc. Where there's a will there's a way!
-
My point is why move? If we extend sms to 55k and we'll be only 80% full why move to an even larger stadium? But thanks for your question!
-
We had this debate in the pub before the game. We were all in agreement, why move? The ground can be expanded to 55k which is more than enough. St. Marys is right in town, good for beer, food and train. Mr. Cortesse, you and Marcus are great, I love your ambition but please don't be fooled by home games against Exeter, Portsmuff, Mk, Leeds and our Wembley attendance, yes we have great support but, I think even at 55k would have 15k empty seats for 80% of most games!
-
No its not entrapment as such, its much like the tv programme where they stage an argument between a couple who both storm of leaving the car unlocked in notorious area in full view of "suspected" criminals. If you put enough ingredients on the side someone will bake a cake!
-
no ones saying they shouldn't be arrested, will I'm not anyway, all I'm saying is it was a set up. The police want to smash the youth element but need evidence, they took a gamble imo. They new they had the resources as it was a massively policed game, they could of done any number things to stop trouble, letting them out at the same time was not one of these things!!! All in my own opinion obviously!
-
Are they ponty?? Could of sworn I see a couple of Hundred West Ham fans steam the pitch, also, unless I'm mistaken the BBC news showed hundreds of rival fans at each other outside the train station with 1 fan getting stabbed!!
-
If they'd of kept the away fans in for 40 mins the police outside the stadium would of had a much easier job of dispersing any home fans looking for trouble, they would of been will within their powers to section any fans loitering outside as they'd have no reason being there. Letting both sets out at the same time doubles all the work, makes everything twice as hard. Ps. most sensible skate car drivers would of used the park and ride service!
-
Don't be so naive mate. Saints youth element is growing week by week, the police can't just arrest people and ban them from football for being in a group on match days, they need evidence. To me what happened against portsmuff was evidence collecting on the police's half, they set up those giant metal screens, wire fences and had a bbc film crew there all for that purpose. If they really wanted a trouble free day all they needed do was keep the away fans in for 40 mins, easy! Job done!
-
The whole thing was a police set up anyway. BBC documentary team with the police AND the police let the portsmuff fans out at the same time as us then they are shocked there's trouble???????????????????

What does Mr. Pardew need to do to be considered to be doing a good job - P23 L3 D5 W15, I'm guessing the only way for him to be viewed as a good manager is to have stats like P23 L0 D0 W23 I can only comment on how I see things but from club in admin and -10 to AP signing mid July, no real pre-season, building a team during the season, safe by November, cup final by Feb and still an outside chance of play off's is a pretty good return! Not sure what people want?
-
Really? What sort of consistency are you looking for- P23 L3 D5 W15 Not being argumentive but that form is pretty consistent, we've only lost 6 all season, as I said in another post if the last 3 games had read Norwich 1-1 Wycombe 0-3 and Walsall 3-1, no one would be questioning anything!
-
Thats why AP signed him mate. AP has all ways said he's not just buying players to get us promoted, he's buying players that are good enough for the Championship!!!
-
I don't get all this happy clappy crap about AP ffs 5-1, very poor defending in todays game, conceding in the first 3 mins, poor very poor! Also need to look at our midfield, whats schneriden up to, has he scored yet this season, no don't think so. If we'd played with decent top class strikers we'd of cruised to a 7-0 victory..........come on Saints put this right and we may, MAY stay up this year!
-
Just read this thread, started to get a bit worried then NickG kindly put a link up for the interview......................surely your joking aren't you, I heard nothing wrong with AP's reply's at all! Thought it was a perfectly sound interview, thought the interviewer did try and provoke a reaction from AP ref. Tuesdays result and AP simply said look at our stats, 23 games, 3 defeats, 5 draws and 15 wins, pretty good return in my eyes. As I said to the lads after the game.......3 games and 7 points is a great return, if it'd been Norwich 1-1 Wycombe 0-3 and Walsall 3-1 no one would be complaining at all, get a grip lads!!!!!
