Well, the BBC have got us in a 4-5-1 formation (Gabbi up top, Long wide right, Davis central), with WBA in a 4-3-3. Makes us look defensive and them look attacking. Is that accurate?

I remember being criticised quite bluntly for suggesting a 'subbuteo-like' 4-4-2 formation earlier this season. Well, lets see if it works. If not, I'll head back to my table for a flick! I quite like this team, though more creative players should start, eg. Boufal, JWP. Davis should be kept for later stability or 'drive' if needed, or to give Lemina or Romeu a rest.

It'll also be interesting to test that commentator/pundit (Steve Claridge?) who keeps calling Forster 'Foster'.

Maybe he has to sell himself on the club circuit now, as he won't be going to the World Cup. Sorry, did I say "sell"?

Was a reason given why he wasn't sent off? I've got Spanish commentary & it's not my first language (or 2nd, 3rd, etc.).

Not managed to watch any of it yet, but comments here seem to suggest same old same old: lots of possession, no threat. Possession is good if you do something with it. Just holding the ball gives the opposition time to form an organised defence. Then it's hard to penetrate and score goals. MP talked about high tempo before the game - is that happening? If not, why not? Players need to stand up and look forward for passes - unless they're being coached to keep possession at any cost, in which case.... You're witnessing it!

Interestingly, in the recent 200th appearance tribute video showing all his goals for us, every single one was low into the goal, and placed instead of blasted. Hmm... I'm the same with Hoj - a fan of his attacking play and imagination (when he plays), but his shooting is/has always been awful.

Stats which are borne out in the match day experience. How many 'shots' do we witness being lashed at uncontrollably and head for the underside of the main stand roof? Surely a slight reduction in power to allow accuracy and control would provide a higher conversion rate?

So, VvD won't be going to the World Cup, then.
