  1. Where, in our current position, is the line between pessimism and realism ? At the start of the season, some of us were not quite as enthusiastic as others about JPs appointment, seeing no logical reason to replace Pearson with a completely unproven unknown; who so far has shown very little that might change our preconceptions. Similarly, we were not quite so certain that playing 'total football' with last year's reserves would lead us to the promised land. I do not think there is a single person on this forum, or Saints fan elsewhere, who fails to realise the financial situation, but even so, letting almost all of last year's seniors go, and not even playing the ones that remain, strikes many of us as plain suicidal. Similarly the apparent belief that Killer would be the great saviour, and somehow remove the need to build any sort of strength in depth in the defensive unit. Nobody, except possibly scabby and sunprance, take any pleasure in seeing OUR team decay to such an extent, (even MackRill and EyeSk8 are probably more embarrassed for us, than laughing at us, at the moment ). Sure there are plenty of points still to play for, and I sincerely hope that JP can manage the team in accumulating, by fair means or foul, sufficient to guarantee survival at the end of the season; but anybody who started the season with the 'we will walk this league' attitude has already been shown how wrong they were. It is, and always was, going to be very long, very hard season, and the biggest concern is that with such a young squad, their confidence is fragile, and once lost may never recover.
  2. Don't think even the M*A*S*H team could revive this patient. Still, we can play out the final act with the Manic's version of SIP.
  3. Puts me in mind of the Goodies show, with the formation of giant geese dropping golden eggs to the Dam Busters theme
  4. You truly are beyond a joke, unlike your duck killing chum who is one.
  5. Thing is, it's now got to the point of 'gallows humour'. I'm having to laugh the whole situation off as a bad joke, in an office full of Blackpool supporters, - I'll say that again BLACKPOOL supporters with a superiority complex. ( There's even a skate  ). Even so, come kick-off time I'll be eagerly anticipating the start of the great revival, ( but by half time it'll be business as usual ). Still, as an eternal pessimist, I may find that by full time I am pleasantly surprised.
  6. red & white forever ( poor deluded fool )
  7. My youngest is playing in the brass band National Finals in Harrogate, so yes I am looking forward to Saturday.
  8. Actually I think it is a well considered and erudite summation of the known facts !
  9. Scooby, where are you ? Come out, come out, wherever you are !
  10. But the manager picks the team, ( or at least reads out the names the Chairman has written down for him ), and he is the one standing on the touchline watching the players fail to pass to a team-mate, and failing to get crosses into the box, and failing to cut out the opponents chances; and he is the one failing to make the correct substitutions, and failing to change the tactics. ( Or is all that the fault of the players as well ? ). He is in charge, and he should be able to alter things when it is patently going wrong . Maybe when we get to League 1 JP will be managing at his level ?
  11. League 1 ?
  12. My wife's a City fan, so a good day all round
  13. Didn't we have a truly awful start one season when Shilts was in goal ? Something well into double figures of games played without a win. Or was I dreaming ?
  14. We are not allowed to play him in more than 20 matches a season, so we don't burn him out before the Arse take him off us.

    He's lost 4
  16. Therefore we are, in fact, stuck with no-one else to bring in, at least for the next 5 or 6 games. At this rate we might just have got to 10 points by that time, be firmly entrenched in the bottom three, and those two better be something special if they are to make a difference to the season's prospects, ( which a Stoke fan I spoke to on Thursday assures me Pulis most definitely is not )
  17. But by forcing the sale of the higher earning players and mandating the use of the youngsters, Lowes' policies are having a major influence on the selection of the team, if it is short of him writing out the team sheet. If it is not for a financial reason, why is Rudi not playing ?

    jan p

Jan has been put in an impossible situation; Lowe played to his ego, and like all manager's he took a firm grasp of the chance to move up to a higher level. Unfortunately he is increasingly looking out of his depth, and there is absolutely zero chance of him doing or saying anything that Rupes hasn't sanctioned first. Also, does anybody know whether Wotte has any say or influence over the first team, as my impression at the outset was that he actually was the more able and experienced of the deadly duo.
  19. The way things are going, Alps is going to end up being proclaimed a prophet. As said earlier on this thread there are only three positives from today's game; we didn't lose, we didn't concede, and Donny lost.
  20. Maybe we should transfer the whole team to the Dutch second division, at least Jan has experience at that level.
  21. Question for the 'positives' on here; is two points from 4 home games enough to keep you happy ?
  22. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7619923.stm "Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy was given a warm reception, but the biggest cheer of the night went to Metallica, who closed the recorded show with their 1991 piledriver Enter Sandman." And there is a video of Sandman as well.
  23. What you saw was the short version, the Friday show is an extended one. The details are on the BBC website, as part of an article on the French singer who is married to Sarkozy, who is also on the show.
  24. Metallica are also on the Jools Holland show, according to the beeb they close the show with 'Enter Sandman'. :smt035
  25. No, but Skate Claridge on 5Live did.
