  1. Here you go! 1. Chelsea ( 18 ) 2. Manchester United, Bayern Munich (16) 4. Napoli (14) 5. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City (13) 8. Juventus, Arsenal, Liverpool (12) 11. Atletico Madrid (11) 12. Porto, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Zenit (10) 16. Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain ( 8 ) 18. Southampton, Schalke, Roma (7) A fantastic achievement especially, as others have said, considering four of the seven were with us during the last world cup when we were in league one!
  2. You're trying to say they'd have got 76 points if you extrapolate their points from the five game out over the season. I'm saying they were a last minute penalty save away from that only extrapolating out to 61 points. They were also outplayed by Villa and Swansea in those five games. Their goals scored without Suarez is more relevant than their goals conceded. Without Suarez it was five in five. Two of which were assisted by a former player playing for the opposition. They scraped by without Suarez. Not sure why you're so keen to big up Liverpool.
  3. The point being that they weren't very potent during those games. The original point was that they did pretty well without Suarez. It was more like they scraped by. They also saved a penalty in the last minute against Stoke during those games. If that'd gone in they would have had the same points as Saints after five games.
  4. My commute from Stoke Newington (four miles south of White Hart Lane) to Kensington usually takes between around 60 - 90 minutes by car, sat in constant traffic jams. I can therefore confirm that High Street Kensington would not be an appropriate place for Pochettino to live if he moved to Spurs.
  5. Two can play that game: 5 goals in 5 games without Suarez. 38 goals over the season. That's less than Fulham who finished 19th.
  6. Three wins by one goal (one where they saved a penalty in the last minute against Stoke), a draw and a loss (to us!) in the league. Five goals scored in five games.
  7. Exactly what Liverpool have to worry about with Suarez. Real Madrid will start laying on the pressure soon.
  8. Apologies. Exclamation mark removed.
  9. Saints' record Premier League season achieved with the best team we've had since the 80s. If (a big if!) we could keep the team together we'd only get better. They've now got two years' Premier League experience under their belts. We see more of the ball than any other team in the league. One or two additions and slightly more incisive play and we'd break our record again next year!
  10. That's why it's important he stays
  11. So we're both young teams on the up. Patience is a virtue!
  12. Within a year? We're on target according to Lovren! :-) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2399713/Southampton-reach-Champions-League--says-Dejan-Lovren.html "Dejan Lovren insists his new club Southampton can reach the Champions League within the next two years. The Croatia defender signed for £8.5million from Lyon, and was followed by midfielder Victor Wanyama and Daniel Osvaldo in a summer that has seen Southampton spend more than £35m. Lovren experienced Champions League football while at Lyon, and is convinced Southampton can reach Europe’s top table. But first, he wants a top-eight finish this season."
  13. Helping who exactly? I'm looking at the situation optimistically! Liverpool finished 7th, 6th, 8th, 7th, 2nd in the last five years. We finished 8th this season. We're a young team on the up! We've made huge strides year on year for the last five years. Let's improve again next year! Liverpool will be found out next year. Teams won't defend as naively against them. If they lose Suarez, they'll more than likely find themselves back in 6th / 7th / 8th.
  14. Liverpool's recent Premier League performance 2009/10 63 points 2010/11 58 points 2011/12 52 points 2012/13 61 points 2013/14 84 points Apart from this season, they've recently been hovering around Saints' current level (56 points). When Suarez leaves they'll drop back down to 7th!
  15. Maybe with the extra TV money and his improved status this season we could offer significantly improved terms that would make the financial decision less clear cut Forever the optimist!
  16. A league cup winners medal would hardly be worth moving for if you were solely moving to win trophies!
  17. They've never won the Premier League. Their last FA cup was eight years ago. If they repeat their trophy haul of the last eight years over the next eight years Lallana would end up with a League Cup winners medal by the time he's 34 if he moved to them :-)
  18. Why were Aston Villa on TV 16 times this season? Their football has been pretty uninspiring. Maybe someone important at Sky supports them? They earned £4.5 million more than us for 'facility fees'. Hardly seems fair for us or for the football watching public.
  19. Wikipedia says: "In England, the transfer window formally opens on 1 July, transfers between clubs in the same association can take place as soon as the last competitive fixtures for the season have been played."
  20. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/tottenham-hotspur/10832021/Southampton-manager-Mauricio-Pochettino-must-speak-English-if-he-is-to-move-to-Tottenham-Hotspur.html "Players and staff at Southampton fear Pochettino will leave and have been looking for signs of his intentions. His decision to wear a tie given to him by former executive chairman Nicola Cortese for the final game of the season against Manchester United was seen in some quarters as a farewell signal." Anyone been discussing the tie?!? Is this a new low in speculation?!
  21. This article just went up on the Guardian. No new information though. Bit harsh on Wanyama. http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/15/mauricio-pochettino-saints-southampton-tottenham
  22. Surely a £17 million pound bid would be rejected out of hand, especially with the 25% sell on clause. That'd only leave us with £12.75 million for an English international who made the PFA player of the year shortlist and has four years left on his contract. We bought two players for about that much last year. Would be madness to sell our best player for the same amount, especially considering the length of his contract, his status within the club, the "English premium" and with all the extra TV money coming in.
  23. If you finish 17th you get £4.9 million prize money or £16.1 million prize money for coming 8th. An £11.2 million pound difference. It doesn't make any sense to sell your best players especially when they're on long contracts. Three consecutive 8th placed finishes rather than 17th place finishes and we've made the money we'd have made selling Luke Shaw (if the current stories are to be believed)! Surely it's in our best interests to dig our heals in, show ambition and go for high Premier League finishes and not sell our best players.
  24. This is a post for reasons for him staying, not leaving! Don't be a negative Nelly! I've covered the Champions League - Liverpool will probably only be in it for one season :-). Is it worth giving up being the star of a team on the up for a team that's going to be a one season wonder? Money, could be a factor, but footballers earn a lot of money whoever they play for. Not that I have any real idea of the wages currently earnt or those on offer, but there must be one or two who don't mind only(!) earning £40,000 a week at a team where they are idolised and have a true connection with the fans rather than £80,000 a week at a team where they won't play all the time and won't be the star player. Look at how Liverpool fans treated Michael Owen. He never had the right connection with the fans and so isn't seen in the same light as players such as Fowler / Carragher / Gerrard etc. He will be a club legend if he stays at Saints!
  25. I'm not allowed to edit posts but those smiley faces should read: "to 8" rather than to - i assume writing "8" & ")" create an auto ! i. 1-1 vs Sunderland 55% possession, 17 shots to 8 xiii. 1-1 vs Man U 58% possession, 16 shots to 8
