  1. BBC Radio Solent Sport - Saints boss Nathan Jones on accepting responsibility and moving forward after defeat to Brentford - BBC Sounds
  2. “I’ve compromised in certain principles because of personnel and the way people want to play and so on, and I’ve compromised because of fans and so on – it’s a few little things,” he said. “But no more, I’ve been very successful playing a really fluent style and tried to implement that at Stoke but couldn’t because of certain things. I came back to Luton and was successful playing an aggressive, front-footed side. "Statistically, there weren’t many better in Europe in terms of clean sheets, defending your box, balls in the box, XG and all those things. Pound for pound we were the best because we were spending next to nothing and getting results,” Jones added. “I’ve gone away from that, maybe because it’s the Premier League, maybe because of certain players and internationals, I’ve had to compromise on certain things but no more.” Asked if he has listened to outside noise, Jones responded: “No, not at all. We’ve thought what have we got, because at the end of the day there are certain players in the building we have to work with. “Now we’ve got a little bit more aggression and firepower and so on. We will be able to step that up. There are a few little things but I haven’t listened to outside noise, now I will live and die by my own philosophy. “I was recruited to transfer certain things into this football club and I haven’t at the minute, but I will.” Asked by the Daily Echo what he meant when listing supporters as a reason for compromising, Jones answered: “Not just because of fans, I’ve compromised because of certain things. The chants have come after my decisions so it’s nothing to do with fans. “Certain things like fans and outside noise have come in afterwards. I’ve gone away from what brought me to this football club and that’s the disappointing thing. “One reason has been players and secondly it has probably been you’re in the Premier League and you want to be fluent. “You want to make sure that players are in a system which suits them to get the best out of them, now we have a little bit more of what we need to do to be us.” Southampton's Jones admits 'compromising' methods in revealing chat | Daily Echo
  3. Earlier in the month, Southampton were keen on Lorient striker Terem Moffi, but have since had advances knocked back for the 23-year-old. Bournemouth owner Bill Foley has recently enquired a minority stake in Lorient and it is unlikely he would be willing to endorse a sale to one of his club’s rivals for relegation.
  4. Nathan Jones reveals on Wednesday two players came to him during the game against City and shared concerns about going to a back five. He says it's "absolutely" a positive that the players can feel comfortable in offering their advice.
  5. Is everyone forgetting our assistant coach is Rubén Sellés
  6. From Southampton way to Southampton pray! I fear for all those who will lose their jobs when we are a Championship club.
  7. 24 years out of 31 in Premier League. Of course we belong there. Need to get those now runnindg our club to realise that. As you say, a sad attitude from our owners and Executive staff.
  8. Good point.
  9. Subject to Adams recovering from illness best team Bazunu, Walker-Peters, Bella-Kotchap, Salisu, Perraud, Maitland-Niles, Ward-Prowse, Aribo, S Armstrong, Edozie, Adams.
  10. 6 year contract
  11. Women drew 2-2 at Lewes coming back from 2-0 down at half time. First point.
  12. But we are guaranteed at least 3rd qualifying spot. Just a bad day in the office
  13. Great day out with a few friends in corporate hospitality (we paid our own way on that). Club looked after us well with table looking out over the ground so when we wanted shade we got it Another "back from the dead" performance. Well done Hampshire. Bus trip back was interesting. Diversions in place with M27 closed at Portsmouth but that did not stop the driver heading back for Portsmouth 3 times. Felt sorry for him but signage was appalling. Took an hour and a half to get back to the Ageas from the Wight Link Ferry!
  14. It is because the ball gets soft after a while.
  15. Worrell has a British Passport. Alma and Roach are the overseas players
  16. MCC clarification on Vitality Blast Finals Day 2022 | Lord's (lords.org)
  17. There is a Hampshire Cricket thread in General Sports were I have posted an email from Mark Nicholas to the players. I will not repeat it on here
  18. An email to the players To you all... I first walked into the doors of Hampshire cricket in 1977, when a few of us kids helped run the old score board at Northlands Rd during the B&H Cup semi-final, which we lost to the great Mike Procter, who took 4 wickets in 5 balls to knock over our much vaunted top order and kill off our dreams. I was lucky enough to captain the side at Lord's 11 years later, our first Cup Final, which we won. For 18 years I played a small part in the story and have followed it closely - if from afar - ever since. Last night I believe I saw Hampshire's greatest ever performance: one that filled me with excitement, happiness and pride. You guys, almost literally, pulled off a miracle under extreme pressure. You were led by the most outstanding captain and inspired by a self-belief and togetherness that must be the envy of every opponent. The culture created from the Chairman to the boot room was clear for all to see. Congratulations...your contribution to the legacy of this wonderful club may be matched but never bettered than throughout yesterday when you showed Hampshire to the cricket world in the best possible light...the spirit and joy of the game shone brightly and the memory will live with us all for all time. God knows what state I'll be in if you win the Championship! All good wishes Mark Nicholas
  19. ECB relaxed the overseas rule of no more that three under contract when we reached finals day. Our two Aussies are still with us.
  20. We had a good look at him last season. Initially he was a surprise package and scored good goals. Defenders got close up to him and he was able to use his strength and pace so spin past them. However his scoring started to dry up and his form dropped. Was he found out by opposition defenders? Did they stand off him more so he could not surprise them? Could we have had the best of him in that initial period? My view is that if we had to pay plus £30M with wages circa £100,000 per week we might be making a big mistake unless the coaches can see a clear way of developing and widening his skills and he has the ability to do so. Big risk IMO.
  21. Here is a thought for debate Reduce Championship 1st Division to 6 best teams who play every other team home and away (10 games) but it must also be the strongest players so England will need to release all their contracted players for the games. 4 days with reserve 5th day for bad weather. Only one team relegated and one up. the quality of each game will compensate for the loss of the additional fixtures. In addition and as a consequence, there should only be 1 touring side for 5 Tests maximum. That touring sides should play the Championship Division 1 sides in a 4 day game and clubs told they should field their strongest squad. That should go a long way to improving cricket in this country imo. As for the remaining teams? División 2 for 8 next best teams and a 3rd division for the other 4 with the strongest 4 "minor counties" as they used to be called. Alternatively the 3rd division could be a development league Comments?
  22. We do not play Surrey home or Lancashire away. That is trouble with only 14 games from possible 16!
  23. Put paid to that theory (which came from one of the team players)
  24. First, they are using a new hybrid wicket and the team hate it.......but that is supposed to be progress. OK, it is the same for both sides but our players have it in their head in a negative way. They have got to learn to adapt Having been put in and with rain forecast they were worried about DL so went about trying to push the runs early. Just did not come off and the rain did not appear. Lets see what happens tonight with their first away game!
