  1. Nice goodbye chat with Dale Steyn after the match. He has enjoyed his time with Hampshire and has not ruled out coming back but could not say more. He is back to SA now as he has been drafted into the 1 day squad against Zimbabwe. We will miss him Spoke to Rod Bransgrove about next years opening batsmen. He said they would probably look to an overseas for that position whilst persevering with Weatherly with Soames also in consideration. He liked the way Alsop is developing. Good win in 5 sessions. Wicket was lively but with some poor shot selections. Our world class bowling looked far the strongest. Great 50 from Trescothick showed that when you apply yourself the wicket was perfectly playable. No worries about any points deductions. If the Match Liaison Officer deems the pitch below average then as it our first such rating in 12 months no action will be taken.
  2. Format is Winner of South and North group progress to Semi Final. N2 plays S3 in QF with winner playing N1 S2 plays N3 in QF with winner playing S1
  3. I was there. Incredible bowling for the last 3 overs. Almost 3 overs of Yorkers. Well done to the Kent bowlers. Weatherly was devastated but not his fault. Our bowling in the later overs was very poor
  4. I made my decision mid season not to renew and nothing has convinced me to change my mind. It is just not the crap football over the last two seasons, although they gave a great fight and showed superb commitment late on, but the whole football experience. Listening to our Chairman interviews the last few days does not convince me anything will change soon. The club rightly panicked in February when they thought they were going down and dropped a lot of investment/profile projects. That takes time to get going again. We were told the sell to the Chinese owners was because Kat could not give us the investment we needed. Nor will the new owner in the short term. He has bought our brand to expand in China. If he is unsuccessful we will bounce along on the bottom of the investment chart. If successful that will take time, effort and money. He has already borrowed to buy the club. That needs servicing along with the cost of setting up China connections/infrastructure. So, nothing has changed. We march on the spot with the occasional backward step should be the new mantra
  5. I would be even more dismayed with this club if they do not interview at least 3 contenders before making a choice I have no problem with the 3 being Managers at present out of work. We do not have the time or the clout to start trying to prise good Managers await from other clubs. They must have a good shortlist, interview those on it, and then negotiate with what they consider is the best man for the job in hand. I have no faith that they will make a good choice for a club that has lost its way in the last year or so. I have had enough and will not be renewing my season ticket whatever the outcome. I no longer enjoy the match day experience.
  6. Interesting on Sunday as Jonathan Moss is refereeing and he does not like Redmond and I understand the feeling is mutual. From a very good professional source who I will not name as he has run the line at Southampton this season.
  7. Agree there is no way we should sell him this window. We must make a stand.
  8. To lighten up this thread but still on the Scousers theme. "The Ferrari F1 team fired their entire pit crew yesterday." This announcement followed Ferrari's decision to take advantage of the British government's 'Work for your Dole' scheme and employ some Scousers The decision to hire them was brought about by a recent documentary on how unemployed youths from Croxteth were able to remove a set of wheels in less than 6 seconds without proper equipment, whereas Ferrari's existing crew could only do it in 8 seconds with millions of pounds worth of high tech equipment. It was thought to be an excellent, bold move by the Ferrari management team as most races are won and lost in the pits, giving Ferrari an advantage over every other team. However, Ferrari got more than they bargained for. At the crew's first practice session, not only was the Scouse pit crew able to change all four wheels in under 6 seconds but, within 12 seconds, they had re-sprayed, re-badged and sold the car to the Mclaren team for 8 cases of Stella, a bag of weed and some photos of Lewis Hamilton's bird in the shower.
  9. Afridi injured and Dawson back with England in preparation for the Test tomorrow. Decent win puts us back into contention for QF's
  10. 4 years ago Liverpool were in the same position and stood firm.....so should we. Liverpool/Virgil should show respect. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/10229750/Luis-Suarez-ordered-to-train-alone-as-furious-Liverpool-manager-Brendan-Rodgers-accuses-striker-of-a-total-lack-of-respect.html
  11. Excusez-moi s'il vous plait, parlez-vous l'anglais?
  12. I really do not want him to play for Southampton again. He has shown total disrespect. However if we sell him now it will send out the wrong messages to the players and other clubs. But I ask one big question of the supporters on here. If you had an opportunity to double your wages, be part of a bigger audience and more riches that might follow, just for doing the same job with the same risks what would you decide? The club have a massive decision to make because £50m + is a great return on our investment. I am happy to leave it with them. I will support any decision they make on this issue.
  13. Why not. End of year is 2nd July 2017.
  14. They have all been at Southampton FC for a while. Tim Greenwell was Legal now Company Secretary Toby Steele was Company Secretary before Greenwell David Thomas is Commercial Director Martin Semmens is Chief Commercial Director Nothing particularly changed. ST MARY'S FOOTBALL GROUP LIMITED is the holding company.
  15. Was also told no food at the 6.40 interval (we would have tea and a slice of cake at that time in day cricket) but chef agreed to stay on to accomodate us. Will mention it to the Directors or Rod when I see them next. Hardly encourages after work walk up!
  16. First experience of watching pink ball cricket and so far I am not impressed. Ball had to be changed after 20 overs as it had gone out of shape. Saw it at the end of the day. As the ball got older than about 60 overs I could no longer pick it out in the field. Saw it well when new ball taken. Overton said he was not enjoying it. Game a bit flat. Dawson said it was like hitting a piece of soap. Very slow when going across the outfield. Had the advantage of examining all three balls after the end of Hampshires innings. Not impressed. As for the game.....well lets see what Somerset do in reply. Survived a tricky 6 overs before the close. To answer Dark Munster's question Rossouw scores since he came back from injury first class only - 0, 0, 0, 13, 17, 4, 0, 0
  17. Adam Leitch‏Verified account @adamleitchsport 5m5 minutes ago More For those asking about Tuchel, he was briefly considered but didn't make the #saintsfc shortlist
  18. We have Brad Taylor as another spin option. Lets not forget Ervins as well:)
  19. That should spur the team on
  20. Think he is staying. I am sure review completed. He is under contract so no need to announce anything unless he is going. I believe those who say we will be relegated with him are being a bit of a "drama queen" He did not get us relegated this year so why should he next. Unless he changes then we will be bored ..itless at home games but he and the team have enough about them to stay above the dross points wise.
  21. Ian Holland playing for 2nds Last game 192 for 2nds against Kent Few weeks ago in 2nds against Essex 5/46, 109, 4/90, 89 and at the beginning of the season 4/29 He was in the squad of 13 but they seem to have bottled it.
  22. You were right, I was wrong.
  23. First, we were without one of our strike bowlers when Fidel went off with a shoulder injury and unlikely bowl again this match. Secondly the ball went soft and slightly out of shape so less effective. Much better today so far. All out having only added 117 for 8 wickets. Now we have to back it up with our batting!
  24. Initially was not going as I was staying at cricket, then with rain decided to go as no one was going to use my season ticket. A few minutes ago had an invite from a friend to be there at 5.15 to join him in a corporate box with all that goes with it:) No brainer! Hope we play better than we have been at home. Put out the team that started the cup final!
