Give it to Ron Posted 15 June, 2009 Share Posted 15 June, 2009 And when they were given a chance things got so much better..... Are you saying Best, Blackstock, Cranie, Theo, Bale, Matt Mills have all been failures because they have all gone on and done pretty well IMO. Saint Lindford Posted 15 June, 2009 Share Posted 15 June, 2009 Are you saying Best, Blackstock, Cranie, Theo, Bale, Matt Mills have all been failures because they have all gone on and done pretty well IMO. Would not say that Mills, Best, Craine and Blackstock have been a great success since leaving. Bale has done OK so that only leaves Theo as the one who has really pushed on and shown the promise that we all saw.

Give it to Ron Posted 15 June, 2009 Share Posted 15 June, 2009 Southampton: McNeil; Richards, Rudd, Cranie, Critchell; Walcott, James,Sparv, Dyer; McGoldrick, Best. This was actually the team that played. McNeil has just left Hibs Richards never recovered from a horrific injury I saw him do at Staplewood. Rudd had problems with joints went to Oxford Utd Cranie.....well...serial loanee now ;-) Critchell ruptured achilles never saw him complete his early promise Walcott ....rubbish for England last week ;-) James was the most improved player last season despite playing out of position Sparv at Halmstad was a decent player and exact replica of Scheiderling IMO Dyer now at CCC Swansea level higher than us McGoldrick...not sure what happened to him.... Best playing higher level than us and scored against us last season. So as I said quite a few have done pretty well and a couple of successes. I think SOG was alluding to the fact that when we played the youngsters the team didn't exactly set the world alight.

Mills may not be prem class but I saw in the paper last week someone was going to offer 2m for him! I was slightly surprised but he did play well last year. um pahars Posted 15 June, 2009 Share Posted 15 June, 2009 To be fair to Sparv he's spot on with his assessment. In the period when he was 17ish -19ish we did go through Sturrock, Wigley, Redknapp, relegation, Basset/Wise, Woodward, Burley, Burley bringing in players in summer of 2006 and everything that goes with it etc etc etc. Not the best background when you're developing as a youngster and trying to break through in the first team. That said, I think like many youngsters maybe he was not able to step up to the plate irrespective of the chaos in the background.
