.comsaint Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 Following the snippet in The Echo this morning regarding the complete lack of any scouting system at the club - let alone the non-existence of any set-up in place to deal with in formation/tactical knowledge regarding that weeks' opposition - it's only then that you realise just how bare & stripped of resources the club had previously become. At least Pardew (a shocked Pardew - it has to be said) is doing something about it and will now have no less than 5 full-time scouts working alongside him. No wonder there isn't the normal crop of very talented youngsters coming through the academy. At least we should now be able to construct side sort of scouting/talent-spotting system once again. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/4560122.Pardew_aims_to_improve_Saints__scouting/?ref=rss

krissyboy31 Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 The previous regime were only interested in scouting youngsters for the Academy, neglecting the fact that we may need to supplement the first team with players and know something about the opposition. Last season, from quite early on, it was apparent that we knew Jack Shjt about the teams and players we were playing and for several seasons we have been signing players on a whim and certainly not 'scouted' them first. S-Clarke Posted 22 August, 2009 Share Posted 22 August, 2009 I think it's quite obvious that part of Lowes cut backs was the scouting, i heard a story last season that the prep for one of the games (not sure which one) was based on the players sitting in the staplewood canteen and watching the short 5 min highlights of the oppo from their website. That was it. Then they went back out on the training pitches to focus on ''one touch passing..''.

I think there's a good achance as there ever was of a player or two making the grade.
