Saint_clark Posted 2 April, 2010 Share Posted 2 April, 2010 Interestingly, 4-4-2 had Beckford as the 3rd best player in the football league. Lambert was 30th. A. F*cking. Joke.
St Landrew Posted 2 April, 2010 Share Posted 2 April, 2010 JP tells a story of growing up, going to footy with his Dad and watching Pompey from the stands of Fratton Park..! Where did I hear that..? Late Kick Off, of course. I'll forgive him for that, and he's still the best current football commentator for my money, although Kris Temple is a cracking radio football commentator. Anyway, I digress. Nice to hear some sensible comment in the debate of who's best, Lambert or Beckford. I would have thought it a no-brainer, myself. .comsaint Posted 2 April, 2010 Share Posted 2 April, 2010 I have my rose-tinted spectacles on here - but I think Rickie Lambert is a friggin' marvel - a top-notch, superb, wonderful striker & someone who will turn out to be an absolute legend during his time at Southampton Football Club. I love the bloke to bits and I am eternally grateful to ML for funding the £1million to bring him here. He is the best striker in League 1 bar none - and I am 100% confident that he will do an equally good job as & when we make the step up to the Championship. doddisalegend Posted 3 April, 2010 Author Share Posted 3 April, 2010 Of course it dawned on me when JP said he asked a couple of people their opinions one a defender and one a striker who he might be talking about. I reckon they sit quite close to JP on a monday night;)

When you're talking about best player as opposed to striker, then Lambert may not make the top 10. However, to say that Beckford is number 3 is ridiculous. doddisalegend Posted 3 April, 2010 Author Share Posted 3 April, 2010 Theres' only one way to find out....... Fight? To be honest Rickies a big lad and as Beckford will fall down like his been shot before any contact is made. I think Lambert gets it.

Wiltshire Saint Posted 3 April, 2010 Share Posted 3 April, 2010 Indeed, you don't meet many Harry Hill fans, what with the obscure scheduling of his programmes.

You have to remember players like Nolan, Danns, Ambrose, Maynard, Bogdanavic...... Lambert is quality as a striker, but not all-round player. - Football isn't about just scoring goals. If he can produce something close to what he's doing now in the Champ, then I'd say top 10.

However - Lambert is at least twice the player Beckford is, and yet the latter is third on the list. Go figure.

Saints foreva Posted 3 April, 2010 Share Posted 3 April, 2010 Think it was in the Daily Echo before our game with Leeds that Lambert has had much less shots this season than Beckford but still I hear people talk about Beckford being the best finisher in League One... If Beckford hadn't scored those goals in the FA Cup (Lambert would have put those away vs Spurs) he wouldn't be mentioned. If he was more of a team player then Liverpool would have got smashed by Leeds in the Carling Cup earlier this season too.
