Could you ask John Christie whether he was unsighted with Aldershot's last gasp winner at the Recreation Ground in September 1955 or was it a deflection - it was my first ever game and it's worried me for 55 years! We lost 3 - 2 by the way...

I actually asked him this and I'm afraid he couldn't remember. He did however say he remembered one of the goals we scored in the game was Terry Paine and it was against an ex-arsenal keeper?! I don't know whether that is accurate or not but he was a genuinely lovely bloke and at 81 and still going to st marys, a true saint.

Thanks FHS - I shall have to go on wondering... Actually I don't think that his reply would have been too helpful if he had remembered, 1955 was before Terry Paine and Johnny Walker scored both our goals that afternoon. He was quite a goalie though - shorter than the typical keepers of today and they only wore gloves (knitted ones) if the ball was slippery.
