Professor Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 I'm sure Alex will be thrilled, even flattered, to be in the squad for the u-19s European Championships but is it entirely a good thing for the club? I'm not thinking just that it adds to his profile and may increase interest in him from Premier sides, but more concerned that he won't be getting a break from football over the summer. Alex is the only L1 player in the squad, apart Afobe of Arsenal who has been on loan to Huddersfield and there are only 4Championship players. The other 12 are all from 2010/11 Premier Clubs. This probably means that Alex is unusual amongst this squad in being a first team player. That puts him under more pressure than a lot of the others to be fit and refreshed ready for the campaign starting in August. The Euro competition consists of the Elite Stage this week and next weekend, followed by the Finals in Romania in July. Two short breaks of 2 or 3 weeks doesn't seem enough for him to unwind and then prepare again. My conclusion is, I hope England get knocked out in the Elite stage this week. Saint Charlie Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 And to be honest if he wasn't in the squad he would think "Oh I need to move to get International recognition."
farawaysaint Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 Oh noes one of our players got called up for international football! The horror! Frankly if anyone wasn't already aware of Oxo I'll be surprised so I'm not all that fussed, a good performance may do wonders for his confidence anyway. Romsaint Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 After watching a interview with his dad on Sky this morning IMHO he will not be a Saints player by the start of the season, also does anyone know if its on telly tonight?

His dad is Mark chamberlain, of course he doesn't want his kid at Saints. He's stated before that the only reason Oxo is here and not at Pompey, (whose academy wanted him,) is the standard of our youth setup. Of course the first chance he has to get Oxo moved on he'll take, I'd do the same if my kid was coming up through the skate's academy. He did what was best for his kid but he has no love whatsoever for us which is his right.
Deppo Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 Personally, I think the best thing for us is to keep Oxo away from the 1st team for the next 5-10 years. In fact, probably best not to let him play a reserve game either, just in case. That way, we will be able to keep hold of him and he won't get called up to international duty either. Perhaps we should break his legs, just to ensure that he won't be going anywhere?

Jez Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 AOC is now a Championship player isnt he. Technically yes but compared to everyone else, he has played all the previous season at a lower level (aside from the Huddersfield loanee) All the big clubs will already know everything about AOC. It makes no difference. And to be honest if he wasn't in the squad he would think "Oh I need to move to get International recognition." Professor's point was that he won't receive a full rest over the summer because he'll be playing more football. Nothing to do with AOC's reputation being enhanced or anything transfer related. Did any of you even read his post?

Whoops.
LostBoys Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 I think every Premier and most Championship clubs will have had AOC watched. If he does well and makes/scores a bunch of goals in the tornament this is bound to increase his profile and may tip the balance in terms of the size of the bid. boxosponge Posted 31 May, 2011 Share Posted 31 May, 2011 concerned that he won't be getting a break from football over the summer. For goodness sake, he is a young, fit and athletic professional footballer just starting out on a career (spelling) that will end up with him being an automatic first choice for the National team.. If he can't play football now for the plain and simple love of showing what he can do when ever will he be able to? Don't get caught up by the paid ( I nearly said professional) pundits:let him enjoy his youth and revel in the first of what will become a long history of representing his country at the top of his profession
