Wealth of club owners

Don't think it means a lot to be honest Nick. It states that the Leibherr family fortune is around 3bn, and then explains his own Mali group, of which we have no idea of it's wealth. Irrespective of any figures anyway - you could have the richest owner in the world, but if they are not willing to give the club the money then it means nothing.

Yes - I said 'give' - 'invest' is probably not the correct word to use in the current climate.

Just flicked through the whole list - there is money in Wycombe, Southend, Bristol, Elgin, Ross County and Walsall. Strangely, not a single mention of our near neighbours down the road - thought those Ruskies were loaded...!!! ;)

Think the article was published some time before the Russians took control, however they still wouldn't make it on!

You are confusing Markus' close family (i.e. wife, children and the Mali Group started in the 1990's) with his siblings Isolade and Willi Liebherr's business (the Liebherr Group i.e. the one started by their father in the 1940's).

The 442 article states the Liebherr family (Markus' close family) is worth £3 billion. The £3 billion they talk of is for that of Markus Liebherr's estate.

This is separate to the main family business run by his brother and sister, from which Markus sold his shares nearly 20 years ago. The Liebherr Group is worth far more than £3 billion and is far bigger setup that the Mali Group. For example it had revenues of £8.4 billion in 2008.

never really thought of that but would have made sense for Markus to leave at least a percentage to his dear friend for running the ship... The fact cortese said he would go to other wealthy people for money if the liebherrs left means it's prob not a substantial amount...

Not sure if this link has been on here before

has us at No5.

I know there are debates as to who actually owns us, how much a rich owner wants to put in etc, but interesting read.

88. Ryan Giggs £27m

Manchester United Age 36 (Last year £24m, 85th)

Evergreen hardly does Giggs justice. Now approaching 850 appearances for Manchester United and with a contract that takes him through until the end of next season, he has every chance of clocking up more than 20 years in the club’s first team. He has been richly rewarded for his loyalty and while his current £4.2m a year contract does not match that of some of his younger team-mates, he has been earning at this rate and more since some of them were still in their prams.

A mainstay of Reebok, Giggs has managed to keep his exploits on the back pages rather than the front, maintaining a private life despite being the most decorated footballer in history. Now in his 20th year at the top, Giggs has amassed a personal fortune that should ensure he never has to work again when he hangs up his boots. His company, Ryan Giggs Ltd, has around £3.4m net assets as at the end of 2008. As he is very careful with his money and with his longevity, we reckon Giggs should be worth £27m right now.
