Today there is an interview in the biggest swedish newspaper Aftonbladet with "Killer" Svensson regarding his new appointment as assistant coach with the Saints.

A brief summary would be like:

Michael Svensson has been trying to come back to football for 4 years. After being a regular member of the swedish national team in 2003, he injured his knee severely in spring 2004 and have never fully recovered.

Some weeks ago he also tore his achilles tendon and it is doubtful he will ever be able to play football again. The passed weekend he received a proposal reagrding if he wanted to help out as an assistant coach, following manager Jan Poortvliet´s sudden resignment.

"There weren´t much time to think about it really, but it was flattering. My contract here is due to expire this summer and with the situation we are in in the CCC there isn´t uch to hesitate about" Svensson says.

Last autumn Svensson took a coach/trainer´s course, and he will now be in charge of the team´s defensive play, starting last weekend.

"It felt strange, and it was damn cold - usually you run around to keep warm. But I think it went very well. We got a match coming tuesday so it is straight into action and we´ll try to build a good defense".

Svensson finishes the article with saying that he hasn´t totally given up his comeback ambitions on the field.

"I´ll try, but we´ll see what happens, and how it feels when I start going again"

Yes, you missed it. Has been mentioned on numerous occasions.

I've read about his ankle injury, not read anywhere that he had torn his achilies. If it's true then I suspect he will never play again, a torn achilies is a career threatening injury on it's own without all his other problems.
