St Landrew Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 (edited) Very interesting article about players trying to break through from the Channel Islands. Significantly, Matty said his brothers were perfectly capable..!!! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/7963488.stm Apologies if this has been posted before. Andy_Porter Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 Karl was offered an apprenticeship at Southampton but decided to come back to Guernsey after only a short time at the club. Anyone know why he left Southampton?
percy windham Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 I spent time in Guernsey recently, as I was making a film, and spent time with a man who knew the Le Tissier family very well, the simple and boring answer is that he was homesick, nothing interesting I'm afraid. lordswoodsaints Posted 25 March, 2009 Share Posted 25 March, 2009 mattys brothers were reportedly better than him but they got homesick and returned home. im just glad that one of them stayed.

Wes Tender Posted 26 March, 2009 Share Posted 26 March, 2009 I have been going to the Islands on business for over thirty years. Whenever the subject of Matt comes up, I do not recall ever hearing that Matt was better than his brothers, especially Carl. Had we signed all three, we might have been European Champions. Having never been there, is it like when you mention the Beatles to scousers? eg. they all have an auntie who went out with Macca, or their Grandad used to work behind the bar in the Cavern Club and stories like that? Or is it similar to when people mention Craig David in Southampton? As in- deny all knowledge regarding his ties with the city.

I believe I am (or was at least) a distant relative of Matt! My family on mothers side come from Guernsey, Le Guilcher, and mum once mentioned that her cousin was married to his brother. I don't know the details, but think this is what I was told. Definitely not a blood relative as I can hardly kick straight!! ;-)
