  1. In the first thirty years I supprted the Saints we had three managers and were relatively successful keeping manager through lean periods as the club supported them getting in top class players. During the subsequent thirty four years we have had twenty five or so non caretaker manager and have been unsuccessful except for the period after administration when the club invested in top class players . My view is that we have not succeeded on the pitch is because we have not consistently invested in the right players but I do agree that some of the managerial appointments such as Branfoot Sturrock Wigley Pellegrino and Nathan Jones were questionable but Russell has a win percentage of over 50% together with Pardew and Adkins who both had the advanate of the investment of top class players thanks to the investment of Cortese
  2. The policy of sacking managers starting with Puel does not seemed to have worked as we are now on maybe our sixth manager and we find our selves in our lowest league position since 2012
  3. My first season proper was 1962 63 when we had a great cup run finished 11th 42 points scored 72 goals conceded 67 with a pretty useful squad but nobody I knew whinged about Ted Bates Most people were happy and fully supported the club unlike today when everybody whinges when we condede a goal and complains about the manager rubbishes players continually when we lose and appear to find fault in most aspects of the club. You reap what you sow
  4. Are you suggesting that a team playing as well as Leicester did last night did not deserve to win and a player like Vardy should stop playing as well as he did Their front players were fast and decisive last night miles faster than ours its just football
  5. Why should he get out of the club when we have finished fourth with over 84 points one of the best positions we have ever achieved in the last sixty years Clearly Leicester are a better team than us with more pace especially up front and we have no consistent attacking players. We are wear we are today because we have not developed any top class players and our recruitment in general has been piss poor To be a success a club needs decent owners with lots of money which we have never had except for the short time 15 years ago when Markus was around
  6. Yes I think we have been fucked for sometime but now the Fat Lady has sung and we are well and truly fucked
  7. Please no I just cannot cope with being stuffed each week in the PL Lets build a team with some decent players like we did when we got promoted to the old League 1 where we were competive after promotion.
  8. The Poster is a Clairvoyant I expect However I am not and the club bought the player to make a profit and moving to Juventus was a chance for the club to see if could perform at a top club. He does seemed to have made the grade so hopefully he will return to SFC to try to improve next season.
  9. I am sorry but why should we have walked it as we had a new team with new tactics a below average goalkeeper and no real consistent top class creative player
  10. Like most of the rest of the squad they are decent footballers but not consistent enough to be able to lead a sustained promotion push I have been around a longtime and seen a lot of topclass players Chivers Melia and Paine in 1966 Macdougal Boyer Ball and Williams in 1978 and more recently Lambert Lallana and Schederlin lead us to promotion. Our recruitment under a number of regimes has been poor not only for the first team but also for the Academy so I was never confident we would get automatic promotion but unlike most I think Russell has done a decent job in getting eighty points or so in his first season with a less than average goal stopper and forwards who seem to to miss goals at will when the team is on top and is then unable to close the game out
  11. Yes I understand that but I just feel we should refine it slightly to reduce the chance of errors and to surprise the opposition as well as reducing the panic among fans like me
  12. We got promoted in 1966 and strangely beat them 20 April 1966 Southampton3 – 2 Cardiff City so omens are good and they have little to play for
  13. I just do not understand why we ponce about in the Penalty area when we could start possession further down the field. The more time the ball is in the penalty area there is more chance of an error
  14. Not surprised we won today as we often win on 13th April which is my birthday Including this famous win Southampton 3-1 Manchester United - Premier League - April 13, 1996 - Match Guide, Data Analysis, Standings - Football - Sports Mole
  15. Jack played in our first four games when I think we were unbeaten after his injury we lost the next four games so perhaps if had been playing in them we may have have done better and got a few points He has been good player for us over a number of years so I doubt Jack is reason we are not in the automatic promotion positions Not having a reliable GK a consistent scoring CF and the lack of a consistent creative player are in my opinion more likely reasons
