If the expertise that Wilcox is bringing to the club is to appoint someone because he used to work with them then we're in even more trouble than I thought
-
We also had people getting excited about Selles based on nothing at all
-
Sometimes they are successful and move to bigger clubs rather than getting sacked though
-
I would consider this a terrible appointment, though obviously hope to be proven wrong. He did well at New York City with Man City's owners behind him, then failed at Nice and Crystal Palace.
-
The thing is we can't just reject all managers with great records in lower leagues. The key is to interview them and work out whether they've got what it takes to step up. Taking Ralph as an example, he had a terrific record in lower leagues and it turned out that he could manage successfully at a much higher level.
-
Ralph definitely should have been let go in the summer but we probably would have just appointed Nathan Jones earlier 😂
-
Ah fair enough. I thought I read he was pretty hard on players when he took over, perhaps things slipped under him too. Pretty sure I read a story on here about Cedric getting bollocked for looking at his phone in the treatment room instead of talking to the physio
-
Ralph simply would never have allowed this: Not saying it wasn't time to move on but we need to get back to his level of discipline
-
Apparently all our players have seen their wages fall by 40% now we're in the Championship. Don't know if that means their wages are still high but not quite a Lemina, Hoedt, Carrillo situation
-
I could be wrong but Tella seems like a good lad and won't kick up a fuss if we don't get an acceptable bid
-
He was out of contract this summer so no way he'd be staying for the Champo
-
I thought the youth policy made sense in the Premier League but we're now a big fish in a small pond so perhaps the equation had changed a little
-
You weren't a fan of Emile Heskey then?
-
Yes. They've all had good spells but plenty of failures too and are living off their reputations as players
-
How is Viera any different to Lampard, Gerrard and Rooney?
-
I thought your post was funny and summarises a lot of the mistakes that have been made, but if we're being fair, it wasn't SR who gave McCarthy the new contract or left Onuachu/Mara on the bench
-
This is interesting because we've actually got quite a lot of players who you could reasonably hold onto and think they would be quite good in the Championship. Obviously we'll lose our top players but could easily keep Bednarek, Stephens, Lyanco, Bree, Tino, S Armstrong, A Armstrong, Sulemana, Onuachu, Edozie, Mara, maybe Perraud
-
Can you explain what you mean about Blackmore? The club want him to ask tougher questions?
-
This is too passive. They need to set out a vision involving investment and promotion and sell it to the players. Inspire them and persuade them to stay
-
It doesn't feel so bad this time because I think we have the financial backing to give the Championship a good go. Also the 26 year record felt like something special that had been lost. And it was the first relegation in my lifetime
-
Yoshida was a good back up CB. The problems only came when he was played out of position at RB or as a first choice CB for too long

Jose Fonte to return next season (Twitter Rumour)
Ex Lion Tamer replied to Esher Saint's topic in The Saints
Was Fonte even a good leader? I thought the consensus was his form fell off a cliff when he didn't have a dominant centre back alongside him -
Maybe we offered him a contract that reflects his true value, which would result in a big pay cut, so he's decided to move on

Saints Promoted - Post Season Chat
Ex Lion Tamer replied to Red and White Army's topic in The Saints
11 years in the Premier League is actually a good achievement. How many other clubs have done it? Let's rebuild, do it again and have another glory day like this one. Reminder of the only teams to be on a longer stint in the Premier League than us: Arsenal Man City Man Utd Tottenham Liverpool Chelsea Everton (going down with us?) -
He'll be a key player for us next season
