We do have to leave open the possibility that Martin was trying to protect his goalkeeper's confidence. Are people so credulous they think managers tell the truth all the time?

If we had started the season with Peretz and Larin…

Not sure either of those players were available in the summer. We had the worst squad in the Premier League by a margin and perhaps it wasn't realistic to turn it round in one window. But under Spors we've gradually been sorting ourselves out -
What’s your unpopular opinion on Saints?

Fabrice Fernandes was a good player whose ball retention was an asset -

David Connolly could have been the best footballer at the club, if he wasn't always in the treatment room. -
Our previous two managers didn't rate him and it was bizarre that whole time
-
Can only speculate but I do wonder if it was club policy to play a back five and it took that long for them to relent
-
I think the squad argument only really works since Peretz came in (and to a degree Larin as well). Before that we were playing with a hopeless GK, so didn't really have anywhere near the best team in the division. Form since Peretz = job done well:

Can only think there's some kind of disciplinary reason why Edozie has been frozen out. I also don't understand why he didn't do well out on loan when he's come back to us and looked pretty good

Consensus on here was that it was a decent appointment, despite his pretty average record, so not sure it can be called ridiculous -

They are a solid team and people shouldn't be misled by the 5-0 -

I really believe his minutes can be managed to keep him fit and justify a new contract
-
Yep it's exactly the sort of result teams have when they're going to be relegated
-
Honestly though, you can't just take players off like that at half an hour. Jander is an important player, we need to manage his confidence.
-
Second half means playing against tired legs, so it is different. And Larin is not ready for 45 minutes so you're still looking at 45 of Archer
-
You seriously think someone with his injury record can start 2 games in 4 days?
-
Transferring players is not the only or even the main benefit of the multi club model
-
Or they go to the middle East etc for a last payday
-
This is the kind of thing that fans don't always see but I expect we inquired about a bunch of players including strikers but got turned down, leaving us with Larin as the best available
-
Given that Armstrong should never have been playing up front in the first place, this isn't a bad way to look at it
-
Never go back
-
If we manage to get into the Premier League through the playoffs then we'll have gone on such a good run that a lot of players will have shown themselves to be a lot better than they currently look to us now. So I'm not sure we can rely evaluate it at this point
-
You can't have it both ways of saying you can't be expected to know what players are on the market, and then say there definitely must be better players on the market.
-
And yet you assume that such a player exists, that they would want to come, we could afford them, etc. Maybe running a football club is harder than you think?
