  1. On the BBC website is mentioned they can only spend £20k on an away fixture including European games. Love the thought of them having to go on a budget airline with the fans and having to stay in budget hotels...never gonna happen though.
  2. bigger clubs will have been already in discussions with Rudigar etc anyway, but you are right, the youngsters about to get a pro deal will be a genuine option for us.
  3. It will only be a bad day at the office if we bounce back on Thursday. I am not sure how accurate this is, but I get the feeling we haven't bounced back terribly well or quickly for a `bad' defeat in recent years. No just for his quality, but for confidence stakes, Salisu's return on Thursday could be massive.
  4. Agree with that, except personally I think Broja is just fine playing the entire 90.
  5. I watched it and I didn't come away thinking Bednerek, Valery, Stephens and Lyanco are great CBs. I think we got away it in that game to a certain extent. We really should have been two down. We were carved up, not too dissimilar today. The difference was we were not punished. Valery got lots of plaudit on here, but he made a massive balls up later in the game which went completely unpunished. He, like Stephens has a massive rick in him. I don't think our Cbs were put under any great pressure or ever exposed in one on one situations. Lyanco is reckless. He gets away it a lot. Maybe he blossoms, like Fonte did (he was also a bit reckless), but if he's our starting CB next season, I don't think we improve.
  6. Hmm. I don't see enough guile myself. He was bought to be a holding midfielder. Still young, but his lack of presence and physicality have been an issue to date.
  7. both of them have looked poor on other occasions. I think there are one two top class CBs that can handle one on one situations but the rest rely heavy on the right kind of protection in front and around them. Expose Mings or Bednerak and you see their frailties. Sorry, but I don't see Valery as the answer. Far too lightweight and not good enough in the air, which is the elementary requirements of a CB. I might be wrong. I often am.
  8. Is Diallo actually any good in that more forward role? I don't see him being anything more than a defensive midfielder. If he can't do that, then he needs to be replaced.
  9. It's an incredibly tough position to play these days (got to be big, strong, quick, and able to read the game and be good on the ball, pass, decent first touch...) and some of the players don't tick all the boxes. Very hard for a team on our budget to find and keep those that do.
  10. what a game like this shows, is that no matter how much we like our players (when they are winning), there is always room for improvement. Not easy finding those world beating attackers on our budget.
  11. Stephens got a new contract I think and I don't get the feeling Bednerek will be sold. Like you, I fear Salisu will depart. If he doesn't sign a new contract this summer, it will be this summer.
  12. I must have missed that. Should he have scored? I thought in general his touch was tidy enough, he didn't hold it up and he didn't really do anything. Adams has been very decent in recent weeks, but he is not a world beater and it showed today. He will have better days. They all will.
  13. we're not as good as we'd like to think we are. We often get a little lucky, get away with things, but that is all forgotten if they don't score and we go on to win. Today we didn't get away with things, they scored and we lost. This is why it pays for the management to be critical, look for ways to improve, even when you win. Stephens and Bednerek were rubbish, as was Adams and Eli. No idea why KWP didn't start. Salisu is a big loss. Tactically, Villa we spot on. The pressed, we crumbled. We changed tactics, going to three centre backs. I hate three CBs, because players don't know how to play it. Too many bodies filling space, and that what happened - with no one actually marking anyone for Ings goal. We weren't terrible. Just weren't as good as we have been.
  14. Not sure why you have chosen to criticise Broja specifically? Was it his feigning injury, cos that was embarrassing. However Adams was shit. Did absolutely fuck all that was good or useful.
  15. we are a mid table side.
  16. they didn't give any room in the first half, while we didn't reciprocate. Can't fault their tactics and application. Some good quality in the final third from them, but we were all over the place. Maybe their extra body in midfield killed us. Our two up front didn't do much. Adams was very very average. Stephens and Bednerek just ain't top class. We now that, but we left them exposed and their weaknesses showed.
  17. likewise. I can never watch MOTD if we lose.
  18. it's hardly ever a lack of effort, and almost always down to quality. The scoreline could easily have been worse mind you.
  19. Armstrong has made things happen all game. Unlucky it was on his left foot there.
  20. Villa may well have dropped the pace, but we've kept working at least.
  21. in games we have won or drawn there are incidents and chances that have gone our way. Today they haven't. It a fine line between winning and losing games at this level. Putting to one side the cup win, in general, against the decent sides, we have to have our best side out to win games.
  22. never a yellow.
  23. it has turned a corner compared to earlier in the season, but we are still a mid table side. We are not world beaters.
  24. If KWP is fit enough to play, I think he should be starting ahead of Tino. If you lose Salisu to injury, why change a second member of your back four? Try and keep that settled winning side if you can.
  25. the drop in quality is massive. Adams not doing his job either. He's had a poor game so far.
