Adkins made huge mistakes on Monday night. But all managers make mistakes. In the past he has learned from them. Let's see if he learns from Monday.
-
Its a while since I saw Jason Roberts live, but he always seemed a bloody handful to me with pace and real power and aggression. Not exactly our style of player, nor age or wage, but I just wonder if he'd of been exactly what we needed, all be it on loan rather than bought.
-
I imagine it is difficult to accept his very kind hospitality and then have a moan, so how much does he really learn? If say there was a fans dinner this week, do you think anyone would ask (or moan) about the illogical decision to make fans drive to Southampton to collect bus tickets for the bubble game or the failure to give a reasonable amount if warning when tickets go on sale for the Brighton game? Both ****ed me off massively, but I'm not sure I could bring these up whilst stuffing my face at his expense.

I can image one or two Saints fans in PO codes being less than impressed if the local council steps in with money a part of this deal. With cuts left right and centre the thought of them wasting money on them is not going to go down well.

er, the only high earners out of contract in the summer are TBH and Rocha. The rest have 18 months or more. Mokoena 2013, Varney 2014, Halford 2014, Kanu 2013, Norris 2013 or possibly 2014, Kitson 2013, Lawrence 2014 and Husseklepp 2014. This idea that they'll be happy to move is very much dependant on them finding another club able to match what you offered and seeing as you are paying the likes of Norris more than he could get at big spending Ipswich I doubt he'd get a better deal elsewhere.

this is exactly what I see. he comes on and we pass to him and he causes problems. we then invariably take 15 minutes before we get the ball to him again. It is a simple game. Davis gets the ball. passes to Richardson,. he taps it 15 yards down the touchline and then we all stand back and watch as de Ridder runs the fullback ragged. Repeat until we score or de Ridder causes so many problems that they double up and space opens elsewhere. Adkins needs to get up in the stand to watch the game. All he sees down there is tackles and the physical stuff.
-
Chaplow isn't fit though, so perhaps Adkins should have stuck him in and stuck with him for five or six games instead of ****ing around with Morgan, Cork, and the bloody diamond. The IMO embarrassing showing for Falque summed it up fro me. Adkins would rather drop a guy in at the deep end, played out of position and even reshaping the formation before playing de Ridder. A poor man's Fabrice he might be, but he's still a much much better option than Falque.

Penny Mordaunt is a ****ing disgrace.

he's made mistakes - not crossing in one game at home with Lambert (?) totally unmarked won't be forgotten quickly - and he's had some very bad games (he openely admitted to that on twitter) where he has been as useful as tits on a bull, but he has also enlightened games with pace, effort and great dribbling skills. NA quite clearly does not rate him or trust him otherwise he'd of got far more time on the pitch. Give the lad a bloody run of five or 6 games FFS. My biggest gripe when he does play is actually that we don't feed him enough. Far too much long diagonal hoof ball from Fox etc. Just get the ball to him all the time and he'll stretch teams and test fullbacks. He's a million miles better than Falque or Holmes. Hope he plays on Saturday. I never want to see Falque in a wide role ever again, ever, no, not that soon. nEVER
-
dumbfounded, five and a half pages and not one you muppets have pointed out the lack of tie in the OS apology photo. Total lack of respect from the lad. Bet he's wearing jeans an' all. Having defended the guy very much against the tide I'm amazed so many of you are now willing to forgive him. I wonder how many of you would welcome him back into the fold if we hadn't be trounce don Monday? Respect to the likes of SuperMikey for sticking to his guns. To be honest I'm sceptical about this and wonder if its just a way getting him in the shop window on Saturday. That said I'll back him at 'wall as I always have and hope the usual suspects will be a little more patient with him should he get a game and make an inevitable mistake or two.

I suggested him on the transfer targets thread a few weeks ago. Someone must be listening. Top prospect at Brum, England U21 and did very well at Cheltenham on loan. I don't think he has played for Brum first team yet but they know how good he is and won't let him go cheaply despite the money problems.

if Bagpuss and mandy go down, can the skates be docked points?
-
Simple way of winning this game. Bring back Jaidi to mark Hendersen. The rest will look after itself.
-
is it only me that can see that we need a left winger?
-
I wasn't overly impressed by Clyne at SMS,I thought he'd get forward much more, but he and Zaha both looked classy, although ineffective on the day. If you are watching the game tonight you hopefully will be seeing a player in Zaha that is head and shoulders above anyone else on the park. He has amazing skills, pace, first touch and strength. Brilliant prospect, but not a chance of getting either IMO.
-
You're not kidding. Premiership bound though surely?
-
Really? I've seen Phillips several times now and every time he has been the stand out player. If someone said we had spent £6m on him I think I'd be pleased, and that's from someone that continually worries about our debt levels. Sharp price is £3m isn't it, and Curtis Davis is worth every penny of £3m. Best centre back in this division IMO. Height, strength and PACE!
-
A very fine post. The one glaring oversight though is that we have bid £4m for Hooper, so some money is there, we just don't seem to be able to get anyone with it.
-
tough to smile after that display, but this comment brought a grin to my face. Thank you sir.
-
they have received "some from the FL"? Was that a scheduled payment or something outside the normal payment structure? If so that doesn't seem fair on the other sides in the league.
-
you are right of course, but some of our problems were as a result of his display. Don't underestimate the damage caused by one underperforming cog in the machine. He was woeful and it effected us. I think I am more unhappy at Adkins for bringing him in and playing him out of position. As I have said we didn't need a in the hole attacking midfielder. we have our own nippers to do that, we needed a left winger with pace and tricks and a cross and a goal every now and then...
-
he couldn't lace FFs boots.
-
sadly I agree with you. He reminded me of many of the players that graced the shirt in the relegation season. I have to ask who scouted him, because he is never a wide man in a million years, so we ****ed him positionally, but even in the hole his movement and workrate was poor. Massive lack of effort. I have to ask also why we would sign another in the hole central midfielder when we have Ward Prowse and Reeves here. If he was a winger then no problem, but he isn't so why is he here. I hope I am set my self up for a fall here, but I just don't see him contributing to a promotion winning side.
-
Adkins has to take his share of the blame for this display IMO. Why on earth we are playing Harding at right back when Richardson is fit is beyond me. Harding unbalanced the side against Forest and was woeful tonight. But that was just for starters. When Jos went off, why not put Harding at CB? Fox got done in the air time after time as he is short. Surely Harding would have made more sense? Falque is another story. Quite clearly he can not play on the wing, in fact he looked totally out of his depth full stop, so why the hell did we start with him there? We must have known he is not a wide man so why play him there? We carried the guy and this immediately put us on the back foot in what was always going to be a tough game. It felt like playing with 10 men. Adkins solution was to bring him into the hole as part of a diamond and move Morgan out to the left where he doesn't like it. The diamond has not worked all season yet still he persists with it. We carry Falque for the rest of the half, only now we look even more unbalanced and give the whole right side to Leicester. The solution was simple. Bring either Lee Holmes or de Ridder on at half time. What does Adkins do? Move Hammond to the left of the same bloody diamond, with us still carrying Falque. 0-2 down, playing like chumps and he fails to solve the problem. Instead he waits 15 minutes before making a double substitution (just as Hammond has got his act together I might add) when we only needed to bring on one wide player. But why not make the sub at half time? Very poor management. Yes we have injuries etc. but Adkins made serious mistakes tonight. As I said he must share some blame. As for the game itself, well you all watched it so no need to describe it, but why on earth isn't de Ridder getting more game time, and when he does, why on earth do we not feed him all the bloody time? Just get the ball to the right back, pass it down the line and let him do the rest. Simple. Has to be better than passing it to Fox and letting him smack it 40 yards for de ridder to challenge Konchesky in the air. Crazy and very frustrating. Fox, FFS stop playing that pass. It is ****. Davis 7 couple of great saves, the one against Beckford was very brave. Did he get a touch on the free kick? Harding 2 played out of position leading to terrible positional play, got worse as game went on until moved back to where he belongs. Fox 4 diagonal hoof is still a hoof. Never gets tight at left back and too shirt and crap in the air to play CB. Good effort when he did though I suppose Martin 5 got the run around by Beckford completely and bullied too. Distribution and decision making woeful. Jos 6 thought he also got bullied a bit by Nugent too. Hamstring pull could be very bad news. Cork 6 did nothing in the first half, but tried and tried right till the end. never gives up. Just nit good enough today all over the park. Falque 1 played out of position, but still a lightweight hands in the sleeves waste of a shirt. Carried him from start to finish. Yes dropped in, but he didn't even look busy. He can only get better I suppose. Morgan 5 some horrible misplaced passes and never made that second ball his. Danns showed him the way. Hammond 4 did nothing at all in the first half and just got moving and was subbed Connelly 3 can't kick a ball more than 15 yards. Been saying it for a while now, he simply has no power left in the legs. No threat. No service. This game summed up why pace combined with movement is very much required in my ideal forward line. Connelly moves, but pace? Guly 4 poor touch kills him, but he battled back when he lost it so I'll keep forgiving him. Still had the opportunities to get something out of this game but he didn't take them this time. Not a lot of service but boy did he hide in the last 20 minutes. de ridder 6 a threat, but needs the ball all the time, why nit give it to him. Liked to have seen him get to the byeline though. Holmes 4 one run that will stick in the mind, well it was a one two and then a missed shot on his right foot. Everything else was backwards. Its nearly always backwards. Why? Cos he is so slow and that its the natural route for him. Safe and sounds backwards. Why have we not bought a left sided player. I don't rate him, but more importantly Adkins doesn't rate him. So why have we no left sided player as cover for Lallana. If Falque is that cover, send him back now and try again. Richardson 7 looked his usual self. Why did we not start with him at right back? If you are fit for the bench you are fit for the start otherwise we should have Stephens on the bench.

don't think for a second there aren't people like myself asking questions of our current spending and debt liabilities. nut all the answers I get are that we are fine. Perhaps you could provide some assistance, after all we seem to do all your PFC buyer research for you.
