  1. I'm not after a solution Gully, I'm checking to see if my connection is having isolated problems or whether other people are suffering speed reductions too. But thanks for the input, anyway. As it happens, since my post about the speed problems, it has been as fast as it should be.
  2. Damned by feint/faint praise..!
  3. Now it's like lightning. I don't know, I really don't..!
  4. How's yours today..? I can pretty much get my iGoogle homepage on demand, but otherwise, mine has been going up and down like a bloody yo-yo. One minute it's fast, next it's absolutely pathetic, or even stopped. I'm having to copy my texts to clipboard, just to make sure I don't lose all the typing, if it grinds to a halt, and I have to refresh the page. Really bloody annoying..! I've posted on here to get more responses. You'll see I've moved it to the appropriate forum though. That's if my connection has been quick enough..!
  5. Hmm, yes. That's about as practical as this: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FoKPdebrVOY I wouldn't feel a numpty driving the Monotracer, at all. I just wouldn't devote £50,000 to it. Now a secondhand one, previously manufactured new from high volume production for £10,000-12,000; for about £3,500 and realistically gone about 40,000-50,000 miles and we'd be talking. I like the concept a lot. Mind you, so does this chap, so perhaps it isn't so good: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VbdkZB9-Sd4
  6. Combination of things really. No MLT in the England line up, when he was quite obviously the best player in Britain. That decision said more than words can. SGE's lack of tactical nous at international level when he came in. SGE's pandering to his players, when they needed a good kick up their pampered arses. The complete waste of a pretty good generation of players. The football money that has gone completely out of control. The complete lack of competitiveness of Premiership football, which is going down the very same same road as Scottish football has trodden for decades, and they wonder why people don't attend matches anymore. The TV promotion of Premiership and Champions League football, when it only affects half a dozen clubs in the country, and 90% of the football watching public don't get a look in, other than the pathetic Championship programme on ITV1 [Whatever happened to choice..?]. If it all wasn't so bloody tragic, it would be laughable.
  7. Aww..! And being a 7 year old, she gets the spelling incorrect too. How sweet. All I got was my profile on here, and Google thinking I really wanted St Andrew. Boring really.
  8. That is, of course, a US Gallon, which is smaller than the true Imperial size. But it is still remarkably cheap. Don't scroll down if you don't want to see the price in £s. [i've greyed it out and made it smaller to make it harder to accidentally see]. BTW, please don't come back on here and tell us you've corrected the price for Imperial sizes, or I just might be sick..! £1.95 per Imperial gallon or 43p per litre. It's almost irresponsible to charge that little.
  9. Do you people want to stop insulting each other now..? Or do I close the thread..?
  10. It's OK, I wasn't having a go at you personally, AP. That's not my style, and it's outside of the forum rules anyway. But this myth has been pushed around so many times, and so many people have corrected others, that I thought it was actually dead and buried. Nobody, apart from Sturrock, actually knows for sure, outside of the Boardroom. Sturrock has come out to say it wasn't Beatts, because the player was getting so much personal flak. All we can go on is rumour, and who would normally be in a position to say something. That person would be the club/team captain and the coaches, which is why Jason Dodd also came in for a lot of criticism at the time, although the coaching staff escaped any rumour. Doddsy is probably held in higher esteem than Beatts, by the fans, due to Dodd's loyalty and long service as a Saint. He also tended to conduct himself better in public, according to some fans. So I don't accuse anyone. I just know who didn't, and the only person who we can be reasonably confident of that is James Beattie.
  11. Allegedly, that was Chris Kamara, who blew the whistle, after a private conversation with WGS. Nobody at Saints knew other than RL.
  12. Well I would anyway. Apparently £50,000 though. Hand made by the Swiss.
  13. I think you're using overly harsh words on Hamilton, but I agree with the sentiment. If they were all in equal cars, of equal reliability, I'd expect Alonso to win at least 50% of the time, with Hamilton winning half of the rest. Take away the pressure [i know you can't, this is Britain after all] and Lewis is a superb racer. Sadly, the best all-round driver of a generation isn't always the World Champion. In fact, often the best driver over a season doesn't end up World Champion. Look at last year's winner.
  14. OK... utmost..! You must have stopped reading after that Pancake, as there were typos galore in my post. I was just too faffed to bother to correct them all.
  15. Well... whatever WGS's reasons for leaving Saints, it wasn't a perceived lack of backing by Lowe, that made him go. Can't believe I'm actually bothering to defend RL here.
  16. You're right on number 2, but you're wrong on number 1. Le god knows I have no real time for Rupert Lowe, but even he deserves to have his record set straight. I have my copy of Gordon Strachan: The Biography in front of me. In it, WGS describes signing a two and a half year contract for Saints, and promising his wife that he would take a break from football thereafter. He'd only taken the job at Saints because it was so tempting. There was no argument with Lowe; in fact Strachan called Himself and Rupert, the Odd Couple, because they oddly worked well together. Strachan did also cite the need for a hip operation, but it was the original agreement with his wife that stopped him from renewing his contract. Lowe practically pleaded with WGS to stay and renew, but he'd made his promise.
  17. I think we'll see something of a change in terms of expert commentator when Jonathan Legard does his first TV commentary. I've heard him on Radio 5, and he's pretty good IMO. Tbh, I don't share everyone's utter dislike of James Allen as a commentator, but then I don't share everyone's love of Murray Walker's delivery. Granted, F1 became a fraction as exciting the season JA took over from MW's high octane voice. But I used to get really annoyed as MW used to make error after error in his commentary. And it was always James Hunt and later, Martin Brundle who would have to correct him. Hunt used to do it bluntly, and Brundle used to do it subtley, as I remember. But JA was never going to be liked after the institution of Murray retired. What I'd really like to see is a little humour injected into F1. I find it so stiff compared to MotoGP, that I'd even let Charlie Cox have a go. Not that he would IMO, as he loves to commentate on bikes, despite being an ex-car racing driver. But then even Murray Walker preferred bike commentaries, and he went to F1 because of the dosh, so what do I know..?
  18. Admittedly, when the pressure is really on, then Hamilton does the good ol' British thing of buckling to it. And so do lots of other drivers, British or not. Even Senna and Prost slid into each other, and Schumacher did it on purpose a couple of times. Anyone can lose it occasionally. Massa was doing his upmost in this race, and the previous one, of trying to lose contention for the title. But the FIA are helping him where he can't help himself, it appears. Hamilton will win his World Championship one season, and it could be this particular one. If it is, we might finally see how great he becomes, because IMO there's a lot more in him. Back to the point of my reply - I feel that, despite trying to remain open minded, there might just be an agenda flying about at the FIA. And I say that almost disbelieving the thought. The fact that it appears to be aimed at any racing team other than those using Ferrari engines, and most determindly at their closest rival, is neither here nor there. The balance of evidence of decision making, for and against Ferrari, when compared to mistermeanors that befall other teams, leads one to suspect that something is going on. And if it is going on, it is simply not right, and F1 becomes false and a complete laughing stock. It like the opposition playing Man United at OT and conceding yet another penalty. These things don't appear to even themselves out over a season. If I ever suspected that MotoGP was in any way afflicted by the same taint I'd drop like a stone. There would simply be no point.
  19. Sadly, in this world, the fair minded often lose at the expense of the rule benders. It doesn't matter a jot that Lewis Hamilton is quite clearly a better driver than either of the Ferrari pair. IMO, F1 is not a level playing field.
  20. Why is this myth still put around..? You are mistaken and ill informed. Sturrock himself has said that James Beattie was nothing to do with his removal. He always got good respect from Beatts. Under Sturrock, Beatts played some excellent football. Good performance doesn't usually happen if you don't respect your manager.
  21. What you say about the Beeb is true Ponty. And ITV did take F1 into a new zone. But the Beeb had a bit of a backward attitude in those far off days. They went through a period where they didn't cover motorsport that well. In the 60's they'ed had Scrambling [Motorcross] and Rallycross, but that had long gone. Their F1 coverage, with James Hunt and Murray Walker was a slow return to form, but they couldn't help thinking it was only a minority event, with snooker, horse racing and f**king show jumping somehow being more popular. I loved F1 when it first became seriously televised because it had real excitement and speed, and it looked good on the camera. Many years later, despite the BBC still considering F1 a minority sport, it was a real shock when ITV took over and the first adverts began. ITV always said we wouldn't miss a second of the action. A statement which always staggered me, because the only way you could get that situation was to stop the race and resume it on the viewers return. If Auntie shows off F1 like they broadcast MotoGP, then I'll not be too disappointed. Good, informative, slightly biased coverage to the GB riders/drivers [why not, this is Britain after all..?], but giving time to all, and thankfully, the BBC have enough channels now to allow for coverage of any sport they choose to take on. And no more breaks for the 3.30pm at Chepstow..!
  22. Let me guess.... no, don't tell me... you've got it set too deep, so the tiny amount of whatever you've covered it with is behaving as a biomass for weeds. A slight case of.. oh dear, bit of a screw up, maybe..?
  23. My Ex used to be a landscape gardener, so a fair bit of her horticultural and landscaping knowledge rubbed off on me. Having said that, where is the semi-porous plastic membrane under your gravel to stop the weeds coming up..? Or failing that... why aren't you popping out into the garden once a week to remove said weeds..? They'ed be easy to remove, as they've no foothold in gravel.
  24. That's what you get for putting a half decent subject thread on TMS. I actually quite like gardening, providing I've already got the area in some sort of order. At the moment its in chaos, although there has been progress since I last mentioned its poor state. Like it is, I loathe gardening, but I'll just have to weed [sorry] my way through it all to get to the good times.
  25. Well it could. It just must not. Otherwise we're staring at a very bleak future for SFC. And I see nobody on the horizon waiting to flash the huge wads of cash, even when there is a serious bargain to be picked up. They've all had plenty of time to come out of the woodwork up until now, and there's been no serious contender. Sadly, I'm including the Merrington/Armstrong fronted contingent also as, I believe, they have no real money to splash around to make us significantly stronger than anyone else.
