Arizona, I know what you mean about motorbike racing. Funnily enough, I couldn't get into it myself until a few years back. 1] because you couldn't find it broadcast on terrestial TV [and no way was I getting SKY] and 2] I thought I'd left bikes back in my younger days, and I'd sort of grown up. It was the first season the Beeb started broadcasting MotoGP, along with CH4 doing some other championships [british/World Superbike, etc..] that made me kind of stand up and take notice. There was also this feeling which hit me about the cornering of those bikes. I simply couldn't believe the angle of lean the riders achieved without falling off. You may think, so what..? But I was squirming in my chair almost shouting GET UP..! It became a bit infectious, and after about 3 races I started to become hooked. The presentation was just right [suzi Perry and Matt Roberts], the commentators [Charlie Cox and Steve Parrish] were excellent, and the racing was utterly amazing during the time I was just getting into it. Luckily, there was also this bloke called Valentino Rossi, who I'd heard about, who sometimes used to qualify quite badly, and then come through the field to win, or nearly win. And it was amazing to watch. OK, the racing has been up and down a bit, but mostly up, and watching MotoGP got me back riding motorbikes. I only wish I'd done it earlier, because I've been missing out on all this fun by being Captain Sensible, solely on 4 wheels, for the past 10 years.

Teh weekend thread sponsored by soap on a rope

I'm going to make a real, genuine attempt to attack my garden at some point this weekend. Or maybe not. -
Oh I see. But we don't do political propaganda on this website, just political humour, so it's Obama as far as GB is concerned. Perhaps when you return tomorrow you can keep your Nobama for your friends. I would be just as even-handed to McCain, so why can't you..?
-
Hooray, someone who saw through my ploy..!

If I can just remain seious enough while I type this short paragraph, it must obviously be some of sort of primate because of the diminutive size, the slightly sideways gait, and the mentioned dog-like barking. All points to some sort of ape. The pointed head could just be raised hair. Perhaps mankind isn't the only species that uses ultra controlling hair-gel..?

We didn't fall for Blair, Brown and the Labour Government, we voted them in. Just as another generation didn't fall for the Conservative government over their tenure either. By the way, I think you've mispelled Obama. We don't put an N in front of his surname over here.

Don't suppose you want this bloke's then..? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McCain

Sorry to p!ss on your exclusive parade MB, but everyone who wants it, now has Barack Obama's signature.

What you're saying is Steve, is that some clubs are being more imaginative in their pricing policy in order to attract supporters. I see many of them have a big ticket cost range. I think Saints could do something more along these lines without alienating season ticket holders.

This should clear up a bit of confusion: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama

You've just proved my point Arizona. F1 fans are a pretty easy bunch to entertain. You must surely remember the days when overtaking was much more common, and not the exception..? It was much, much more exciting. I've fallen asleep watching some F1 races over the last 10-15 years, and it hasn't been because of incessant adverts, Steve Rider's or Jim Rosenthal's presentation, having had a couple of drinks, or my advancing age either. It's because it is processional and relatively unexciting. If British drivers weren't in the field I honestly wouldn't watch. LH and JB just about get me to turn the TV on and hope like hell it'll be better than the last race. Yes, there are some good races, but only relatively good, compared to the standard level over the season. Basically, F1 is still rather boring, and recently it appears to have been unfair, and boring. And the most interesting bit has been the curious penalties bestowed on various drivers, not the racing. Perhaps I just don't like 4-wheeled racing that much..? But the BTCC manages to be exciting, even though the event is far lower key. But they overtake each other much more, so that could have something to do with it.
-
Well they are doing that, but I agree, bring it all back. Put the driver in the driving seat, so to speak.

IMO, Lowe has gambled with the fan's support for a very long time, and now it has cost the club and him dearly. He now has to balance out whether his involvement is being an almighty millstone around SFC's neck, or whether his bad image can be overcome. Knowing Rupert by reputation, I'm sure he thinks the latter. Personally, I feel that Rupert should concentrate his involvement in nurturing the club as it is, and making it into the biggest bargain available, so that he can, if he wants, just become an SFC supporter, and have no ownership or involvement in the club. And new owners, with much more money and ambition, can take the club forward. If Rupert could achieve this much, then the majority of supporters may think a little better of him, and eventually return to St Marys. But they won't with him still around the place, and every week that goes by will not improve the situation, whether Jan gets the players winning consistently or not. It's a grossly unfair situation for JP, the coaching staff and players, but supporters vote approval with their wallets. What else can they do if they don't like where the club is heading or the personnel involved..?
-
You realise with that kind of response you've pushed MB back to his NSFW - lingerie in TMS roots.
-
In actual fact, I don't think Rupert is meant to be at St Marys in anything but in our imagination. OK, he attends matches, but he's not the Chairman of SFC, but of SLH. Michael Wilde is Chairman of SFC, so maybe Rupert isn't getting a salary after all. He may be pulling the strings, but I don't think he's being paid. Perhaps someone who actually KNOWS can come on here and tell us.

Not something I'm normally this interested in, but I went to the Official F1 Website to have a look at some images and videos. Some good videos there, in very good quality, and buffered 100%, just in case your internet link is ponderous. Not sure but I think you may be able to download them via Realplayer too... Just checked and it appears you can. http://www.formula1.com/news/headlines/2008/10/8530.html The upshot of all that was noticing Kovalainen doing what a very good teammate does of following Hamilton into the first corner and squeezing out Raikonnen. If anything, it was he who deserved the penalty points, but I'm sure he was asked to stay close to Hamilton's gearbox, if he got away well, up to the first corner, so he was just doing his job. All my surmise, of course.

Oh come on now, Pancake.

That looks almost exactly like a 1970's Epiphone FT-150 I'm currently using. If it sounds as good, and is in excellent condition, the £50 you're asking is a bargain.
-
Perhaps you can give me a list of the people who'll possibly be giving you presents at your next birthday, so that I can inform them of what you think of them. Btw, this isn't TMS.
-
Indeed. Give the guy a break.
-
This is just bloody ridiculous. That bike is almost defying physics, even allowing for the non-horizontal ground angle. The rubber on those tyres must be close to glue at racing teperatures. Aussie Stoner on his 800cc Ducati Desmosedici. Can I have it once you've thrashed it Casey..?
-
Why no replies about the lack of overtaking..? Or is that a done argument..? If so, the fans of F1 are a pretty easy bunch to entertain. They'll go wild if and when it starts to become the normality, rather than the exception. As for the consistency of crowds, I beg to differ. Even back in Schui's time, the allegded bias wasn't anywhere near so blatant, even though the decisions seemed to go with Michael a lot of the time during his years at Ferrari. Anyone can eventually be cheesed off, especially if they don't wear a red cap with pride. All it takes is enough time and motivation. And F1 and the FIA seem to be making every effort.
-
Obviously you don't quite get the depths of the male mind yet, BTF. There's not a single bloke on this thread who has been looking at No.4's eyes.

What a way to go..!

Besides, I think you'll find that these minority events come under the Olympic Sport umbrella. So clubbed together, as a minority, they're a pretty fair size. Possibly bigger than Rugby Union or Cricket. Perhaps we should just bring back Jeux Sans Frontieres, and ditch the rest of sport, eh..?
