  1. That's his problem; he is unable to keep his private and "professional" roles apart. Fair enough that he's a Pompey fan and he wants them to do well, but he has abandoned any journalistic integrity he might have held somewhere along the way in favour of becoming a self-elected propaganda vehicle for a commercial bidder relying on economical backup from fans. The basic setup is just plain wrong. Did you see Echo journalists join Saints on the preseason tour and act like one of the boys? Neil's inclusion in their Gibraltar "for the lulz" trip showed all you need to know about his professional and distanced relationship to the club. He's a groupie with a blog ffs
  2. Pompey Induced Stupor Syndrome: Product Of Takeover
  3. To me, the answer to the OP's question is that it relies on the opponent: if we meet a team where we expect to be under a lot of pressure, then Fox may provide good cover for Shaw. It's been done before, e.g. when Valencia put on both Alba and Mathieu to deal with Barca's attacking options: http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/10/19/barcelona-2-1-valencia-tactics/ If we are at home to Reading, then you don't want Fox running (or ruining) the show as LW...
  4. BBC ‏@BBC Breaking News for #Pompey: Guy Whittingham worked as an Iraqi tank driver during the Gulf War! Shocking!
  5. Everyone decided to go to lunch but forgot to tell poor Rory: "I'm the only person in court room now so will investigate. #Pompey"
  6. 11:27 Mark: For those who have recently joined us, lack of action here right now is because we have an adjournment at court. Judge expected to resume hearing soon and rule on whether or not case can proceed today. Very possible that the hearing will be adjourned for 28 days
  7. I'm struggling to catch up here... lots of posts in so little time
  8. Looking at the thread title, I thought we'd added another Japanese player to the squad
  9. The children suffering from various kinds of cancer have the extra challenge that during key phases in chemo therapy they have to be segregated from other patients because their immune system is not functioning well. This means no trips to public places, no busses, no football, no school etc., so they are often really, really bored. Having lived in a similar environment to that for more than a year I can testify that the monotomy and isolation really gets to you. Whether the players were brought there at gunpoint or they begged NA to go doesn't matter - they have brought some variation into a hospital everyday life that is dominated by routines, schedules and structures. Good on you, lads!
  10. It was round 26 of that season and afair we somewhat lost belief after that. A few rounds later we threw away a 2 goal lead against Villa with Steven Davis scoring the winner. Sorry for posting this atrocity of a video, but the intent was to make us feel good about the present day team
  11. If you can bear it, watch the clip below and then afterwards watch the final 10 minutes of the Reading game on Saints Player. Our current team knows how to hang on to the ball in the final phase of the game...
  12. Lallana injury thread on main board
  13. Thanks for the update!
  14. How about Ines Sainz from BBC Mexico?
  15. If true, this is really bad news for us. Team captain, heavily involved in much of our offensive play and getting much better at protecting his fullback. I can only hope the rumours are wrong. If true, do we draft in Rodrigues, Lee, Mayuka, Fox, Guly?
  16. "Our position is secured; we will get our laughs"
  17. Was watching via a web stream here i Denmark, so a decidedly worse view than yours at St. Mary's
  18. I agree, it really isn't that complicated... which makes the booing even harder to understand...
  19. It was the very same error QPR made against us, where they were too long in figuring out how to deal with our short corners. I think we managed to correct it at some point against Reading, but yes, those two in immediate succession looked peculiar. Those situations we need clear agreements between the players...
  20. Didn't spend much time in here during that period, but didn't the polls show 70-80ish% backup for NA from those voting on here?
  21. Good: - Shaw. The sequence where he watched their winger and simply outran him towards the byline was excellent defending - The born-again Saint, Puncheon and his partnership with Clyne - Southampton Football Club running down the clock efficiently - shock horror! Started properly around 90 minutes with our 17-year old full back showing maturity beyond his years with some excellent time-wasting by the corner flag. This was followed by a promising attack in the middle, where Lambert sent the ball out near the corner flag instead of going for goal and possibly losing possession. Were you watching, Peter Crouch?! Bad: - Booing Guly. Aaaaargh. "As a paying customer it is my right to help the opposition if I want to", it just doesn't make sense to me... - Lallana's injury. Please, please let it be a minor knock or something... - Continually failing to deal with Reading's short corners - one of those led to Robson-Kanu's header on the post. Why didn't we send someone out to stop that?! Annoying: - Puncheon's first goal should have stood - there was no free kick in sight and nothing that could really be mistaken as a free kick. Actually it was an unusually clean corner situation with less shirt tugging etc. than usually in modern football...
  22. As you say, Guly was brought on to help retain possession in the final third in a phase of the game where it was vital that we kept the ball in our own ranks. He chased down their defenders when they were in possession and when we had the ball he held it up well and gave an offensive outlet for the midfielders. It's really weird, if it wasn't Guly, we wouldn't have had this kind of thread over that performance. Brought in to do a particular job at a particular point in the match and he did this job in a solid and unspectacular manner. Fine shift that contributed to our win, nothing more, nothing less...
  23. Newcastle were great last season, they are sh*t this season. Guthrie must be the new Beckenbauer... I like your "logic"
  24. Nice result; I really do like the look of that league table now. Onwards and upwards, people!
  25. Good lad, great attitude?! Seriously!?
