To be fair our squad is extremely young exceptionally so for the prem and as such lacking in prem experience. Our money apperars to have been spent with a longer horizon in mind than many of our predecessors. Adkins is trying to stay within the clubs stated policy of bringing youth on and having 50% of the team ultimately from the Academy. If this strategy works it will see us attracting the cream of good young players from the Uk Europe and worldwide as they will see a quicker path to success at Saints. It is however an untried and more risky approach to your usual promotion candidates. This is a different approach to going out and signing a team of old prem league cloggers with the short term aim of staying up being the only strategy. I think NC understands the Saints approach requires longer gelling and bedding in time and therefore seems to have a bit more patience. Not that a couple more defenders and a keeper would not have come in handy (but it appears they only wanted young ones a la Butland or nothing) So Adkins does have a much harder job in the short term and needs to be judged on this basis not on the size of our spend!

A bit unfair Chelsea have unlimited funds! Arsenal were balancing the books buying and bringing youngsters through, playing an attractive type of football and paying for a massive stadium from football income. The fact they have managed to be top 4 for so long is a great achievement based on the resources available. Wenger would probably have won plenty with Chelsea like resources So there is a point in sticking with one manager it produces continuity, togetherness a fixed style of playing, stability and a long term plan and youth policy. How well did we do when we changed management and teams every year? compared to a Bates or a Macmenemy or even a Nicholl ? not to well me thinks! Without the continuity and exceptional skills provided by Le Tiss we would have sunk to the depths of league 1 many years earlier than we did.

I am not disagreeing with paying once the court has ruled I am saying 1) We dont have all the facts on this case 2) There are likely to be thousands of normal payments being made by the club to local businesses every month 3) you cannot conclude purely on the evidence from (1) that this means the club has a hidden policy to avoid and delay paying local businesses ina pompey like manner!

I said previously this is an isolated case out of many payments made every month in which the club may be mistaken or wrong but even here we dont have the full facts. My point was that it is a far leap from one case where payments have been withheld to the inference by the journo that this is a declared club policy to delay payments to local businesses.

So this case is but one small example where payment was not made for reasons no body is yet clear on! The point is "one Swallow doesnt make a Summer! So in all probability the club is complying with the principle you set out above in 99.99% of cases unless you have a lot of credible evidence to prove otherwise!

Maybe they forgot to go? maybe they got the date wrong? maybe someone forgot to pay? maybe they didnt pay their lawyer? neither you I or anyone else on here not associated with either side knows and the likelhood that the answer is Saints have a knowing policy of delaying payment to local firms is pure conjecture based on the flimsy evidence and facts currently availbale! so to infer such an answer as the journo was trying to do is patently diengenuous!
