  7. I agree with you about the planted questions and I wish it would stop. But I have never known a PM turn a question round and ask the Leader of the Opposition to answer a question (usually related to something that happened 5 or more years ago). The whole thing needs reforming and maybe questions should be asked and answered on the hoof?
  8. I've been watching PMQs for years. I don't recall any previous PM so blatantly not answer questions put to him by the opposition parties.
  9. These days, there is a significant disconnect with politics especially with the younger generation. Younger people tend to get most of their information from the internet but they do watch TV a lot so it would be a good thing to have a balanced debate on TV to get them more engaged. Before the days of Party Politicals, most electioneering was done on the stump but we've moved with the times. Party Politicals are not really of any value these days because we all want the chance to see our politicians challenged. TV debates might address that as long as none of those 'controlling' the debate kow-tow too much to the establishment. Cameron seems to do quite well sometimes at PMQs. But that's no surprise, all the questions from his side are planted and he has time to prepare his answers. You'll all notice he never answers questions from an opposition MP, instead he makes his answers into criticism of previous administrations. He's made a mockery of the whole event. I really think he'd struggle to answer direct questions in a debate off the cuff.

  16. Easy to jump to conclusions, isn't it. My daughter has two sons. The eldest, 6 years old, is the kindest, most thoughtful, intelligent, polite little chap you could ever wish to meet. Not a nasty bone in his body. His brother, who is coming up to 2 and a half, is the complete opposite. Hurts the cat, tries to strangle his older brother (who never, ever reacts), pinches his mother and thinks it's a joke if he's sent to the naughty stair. Both boys raised in exactly the same way and with a primary school teacher for a father but he could easily get out of control. Both parents are exemplary and never resort to any sort of hitting but there are times when my daughter is in tears because of his behaviour.
  17. Not true - all temporary staff, including agency staff, are entitled to holiday pay and sick pay https://www.gov.uk/agency-workers-your-rights/your-rights-as-a-temporary-agency-worker
  18. If you watch the programme I mentioned previously, you might find they have some answers. I think there are many reasons why people choose not to be GPs although I don't think it's so much of an issue with specialty doctors.
  19. There is to be a special Inside Out on BBC1 at 7:30 tonight, across all the regions, on the shortage of GPs I have some sympathy with nurses who choose to work for agencies - many are women with families and the regular shift patterns do not always suit their childcare needs. But the NHS should address this rather than employ agency staff.

  23. Given the explosion in the number of elderly people now and in the future, we have to find a way of funding their pensions and healthcare. Apart from needing a huge number of healthcare workers in the future (we're already under-resourced), we need taxes and NI contributions from a larger, younger population. It's fair to say that immigrants contribute significantly in terms of healthcare provision. There is plenty of room in our country to house an increasing population. It just suits the government to sit on their hands and only introduce measures that will mainly benefit developers and landlords rather than bite the bullet and underwrite the provision of more housing. Part of the housing problem starts with very wealthy people (from Russia, Hong Kong, China etc.) buying top of the range property as investment. This inevitably has a trickle-down effect on the housing market firstly in London and the South East and then more generally spreading outwards to the rest of the country. It has been shown time and time again that immigrants contribute more to our country than they take out in benefits (of all kinds including health, education and housing).
  24. I hope you're looking over your shoulder as you retreat so fast
