  1. I particularly like this bit: "Portsmouth has become a staging post, a lucrative hiatus, a place for the caravan to pause while the driver fills his pockets"
  2. I would venture to suggest that they are insolvent. I believe it is illegal to continue to trade if knowingly insolvent. I believe, if companies trade when knowingly insolvent, their directors are held personally liable.
  3. Good article in the Observer today: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/03/portsmouth-debts-transfer-embargo Also, nice write up on us: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jan/02/fa-cup-southampton-luton I especially like the pun in the second paragraph: "Saints, above all, could serve as a parable for their neighbours a short skate along the south coast"
  4. I'm not a man. HTH
  5. When we went there, there was an obnoxious child on the mini-bus tour to see the apes. One of the apes snatched his ice-cream and it was very funny to see the parents having a go at the tour operator for allowing this to happen. I kid you not
  6. I think they're debt free now. I'm sure I read in the past few days that they've swapped debt for equity (presumably Abramovich owning the equity)
  7. Hey buddie - we agree about something
  8. I think I might emigrate to Norway
  9. Does anyone know if we'll win
  10. IMO (and not just to disagree with TDD) Gibraltar is tacky.
  11. My daughter went to Sharm-el-Sheik to dive and instead got severe food poisoning. She was on a drip for a couple of days!
  12. Sorry boss - it really hacks me off when people respond to reasoned argument with insults. I shouldn't have sunk to the same level - sorry
  13. I think we should just all ignore it and deny them the oxygen of publicity. But never, ever say people shouldn't march 'against the country'. Suppose the country was governed by an extreme parliament (of the left or the right) and the common man profoundly and collectively disagreed with said government's policies. Would you suggest the common man should sit back and do nothing.?
  14. Watching an awesome TV prog about Elvis' Black Leather session. Phew that man was soooooooooo sexy
  15. How bizarre - because the explanation for non-payment of wages was that there had been a hitch with an electronic file  But now they're waiting for a loan to pay the wages. Will the lies never end?
  16. Re David Coleman: He lives (or used to live) quite near me on the outskirts of High Wycombe. I seem to recall that he was ill with dementia or something similar so I Wikied him but there's no mention of that. The Wiki entry makes for quite interesting reading. I didn't realise he was an accomplished athlete or that he was awarded an Olympic honour. I do however remember his commentary on the Munich seige. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Coleman
  17. Or - even better - engineered wood! Fits like laminate but looks so much nicer. More expensive however.
  18. To encourage TDD to read posts, links and references more thoroughly
  19. I'm sure I've read recently that dear old Storrieteller had got a job with the Australian FA?
  20. If you go to somewhere like Allied Carpets you'll have to pay for fitting. Sometimes, local independents will fit for free. That's certainly what we've found up here in darkest Oxfordshire
  21. The link to the front page of Guardian Sports has already been posted but there's another interesting article in the inside pages: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/dec/31/portsmouth-gordon-taylor-premier-league Apologies if this has already been posted.
  22. Years ago, we went to Marsaxlokk (sp?). Stayed in a hotel reputedly belonging to Colonel Gadaffi . Hotel was built on a rock overlooking the bay and was 4* I think. Don't, whatever you do, go to Bugibba - it's like Benidorm. Lots of interesting places to visit - Rabat (the silent city), Gozo and plenty of lovely bays although not many long sandy beaches. There's one to the north (Melliha sp?) And the capital, Valletta, is beautiful.
  23. You can hop on a canal bus, buy a round trip ticket, then hop on and off at will to visit various attractions..
  24. Sky Sports News
  25. Love this bit at the bottom of one of the pages: Portsmouth's Top Comedy Now at Highlight, Formerly Known As Jongleurs Comedy Clubs. Book Now!
