Wednesday were absolutely dead and buried before he took over last year, bottom and 7 points from safety (below Rotherham, Huddersfield etc.) He now has kept them up and has them in touch of playoffs, a huge improvement. As much as I loved martin and the style of play in the champ, he had never markedly improved anyone (Mk Don's or Swansea). If you imagine it goes: dead and buried (us now, sheff wed then) -> relegation battle -> lower mid table -> play off hopeful -> top 4 -> title challenger a rough hopeful theory would be he could improve us similarly, from play off hopefuls to being able to contest a relegation battle in the Prem potentially. Conpletely un scientific madness but there is some logic that he can take players like Valery and Barry Bannan (the team we trounced first game last season) to nearly the playoffs, then he should be able to help us.

Two of our best players (THB and Downes) were new signings last time, and an unexpected stay (KWP) could happen (e.g do we need to sell all of Ramsdale/THB/Fernandes/Dibling? When we will probably get some money back on Sulemana, Brereton Diaz, Edozie Onuachu) Add Gronbaek and some more quality and we'll do well again

If you only support a team when they win, what on earth are you doing supporting Southampton football club. I'm not from the era but we've had Branfoot, in my time Redknapp, Poortvielt, Pellegrino, Hughes, Jones, Selles (not entirely his fault), the start of this season under Martin. This comes with the territory. If you can't take the banter don't engage with it, goodness me we lost 9 nil how funny! I can't think of anything worse than being a top 6 fan, the winning can't taste as nice when its conpletely bought and paid for. Season after season of nothing if you dont win a trophy, the lows we have amplify the highs. I will never forget going up vs Coventry, 8 nil vs sunderland, Manes fastest hat trick, Cuca Martina vs Arsenal, finishing 5th and 6th, the league cup final, Inter milan home and away, Gabbiadini vs Swansea, Shane Longs fastest goal, JWPs free kicks, the play off final etc. Etc. Plymouth, Rotherham, Colchester fans would kill for the above for their team. So what we suck this year. Football is not just about winning, and if it is for you perhaps you should re evaluate your relationship with your club and work out why.
