On it doesn’t. If we’ve agreed to pay the release clause in full, then we’re free to talk to the player. It seems in this case, the player just didn’t want to come here.
-
It’s exactly how it works. It’s more of a eBay ‘buy it now’ rather than Auction. If a release clause is set at X, if you offer X then the player is free to agree terms with you. Little the selling club can do. Id expect Marseille have offer 2m more but in instalments rather than a lump sum, which the release fee needs to be paid at.

The return is growing the club & keeping them a PL side. Under SR model, it’s essential, as the ‘main club’ were a top flight team. Every business / investment is a gamble.
-
You really don’t know how this works Ron, do you. After seasons of the same shit, I’d have thought all woulda clocked on by now. Seems most have.
-
They’re just as much a basket case as us. If they’re after someone, we should steer well clear. They’re only marginally more attractive than us atm because they have a manager capable of keeping them in the league.
-
It’s not if you’re willing to invest properly in your squad. Brighton being a prime example. Years of poor recruitment, penny pinching and underinvestment have left us with under qualified staff (on and off the pitch). we’re now seemingly willing to spend a bit of cash, but it’s too late. Destine for the drop there are 19 other PL clubs who are more attractive options than us.

That was my assumption that the deal would be exactly that. Effectively a 6 month loan for £3m or whatever the cost is. Logically thinking, assuming he would want to join, that makes sense. Even if we’re in for this Portuguese lad as well.
-
You like to think those running the club understand the rules around release clauses etc. however, it wouldn’t at all surprise me if these idiots running the club didn’t.
-
I mean what he is saying is right I guess, but he and his family really need to stay off social media / web forums. Their skin is clearly not thick enough for it. Although, I think at 1-0 down, we’re already out of the game. I can’t foresee Newcastle being as bad as they were Tuesday night.

We’ll done for being about 2 weeks late on that joke.
-
Next season is the campaign before a European championship. There is no way we keep anyone with any ambition in playing in that.. JWP, ABK, DCC, lavia etc.
-
Agreed. Time he gets a run out, genuinely couldn’t be any worse than Bazunu.
-
This, so far, is a considerably better performance than that against Lincoln. We actually look like the PL side.

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg

ABK doing his ACL was a load of rubbish then -
We need to win pretty much the same amount of games in the last 20 as we did in the whole of 2022 and there is absolutely no sign that we will do that. Short of signing Haaland, ederson & Dias (and Pep), it’s all but a formality and we’re down.
-
He had bags of potential but no end product. He’s basically a winger version of Che. If we want to stay up, we need to stop littering our squad with championship players. We’ve got far to many already.
-
Our issue isn’t creating chances so to speak, it’s actually taking them. Che isn’t and never has been a strong enough finisher to play as a lone striker. He wastes far too many chances, at least 1 big “he should be scoring that” a game. Outside the top 6/7 teams, no one in this league is good enough to waste the chances we do. It’s no surprise that our best runs of form have been when we have a striker taking their chances, Ings / Broja. With the way we are playing under Jones, deep block and counter, we simply need to find a clinical striker. Im not sure a ‘forward’ to create more for Che is a sensible approach. Che is a likeable bloke and box to box is brilliant, but if want to stay in this division, we simply have to place him with someone more clinical. Those suggesting Tella are blinded by a half decent run in the championship playing for a cracking team. He’s been tried in the Pl and much like other we’ve signed, Armstrong / Adams, isn’t good enough at this level. His time at Burnley is perfect as it’ll give him some much needed experience (and evidence he is good enough at that level) in the championship and/or tempt Burnley to give us a decent wedge for him.
-
KWP is off in the summer and there is a major doubt about how Tino will recover after 2 significant injures and 12-18 months out. Its not inconceivable that he’ll be back up RB come next season in the championship.
-
I suspect that is partially why they all went for him, trying to get a reaction which would spark a straight red rather than second yellow (3 game ban over 1 game). As others have said, it’s part of football. JWP done it to zaha many a time. Shame it wasn’t Lyanco who got sent off, might have helped us.
-
Would Willy be any worse? I’m not sure he would, really don’t see what Bazunu brings to the table. We play with a mid/deep back line, so we don’t need a ‘sweeper keeper’ like we did under Ralph. Willy’s experience might help our CB’s pick up their man as well.
-
I’ve no fucking clue what bollox ‘PSxG’ means, but I’m guessing it means out of 100 shots, he should have saves 23 of them. He’s conceded 32 of 77 shots, which kinda proves, he’s fucking rubbish.

Avoid. This one stinks of another Che Adams / Adam Armstrong.

Southampton 0-1 Newcastle League Cup Semi Final 1st Leg

We’re a better team when Adams doesn’t play. his hold up play slows us down, we’re more effective on the counter without him. Not sure Mara is the answer but I’d give him a go for a few games. We cannot afford to allow Adams to waste opportunities time and time again. One of the biggest reasons why we’re going down this season. -
It won’t take long for the negativity of this group to rub off on him. Give it a month and he’ll be Slow and ponderous like the rest of the wasters. Looks a good player though, just what we needed in there to be honest.
