Stop making silly comments then Alps.

Spot on.

Fancy Westwood putting his mobile phone number on that document... I'm sure that nobody would want to abuse that!!!

Interesting piece on the Beeb about Pompey's mire. It explains the HMRC issue quite well. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/mattslater/2010/01/taxing_times_for_footballs_fri.html

Is this a new campaign of yours Stu?

The ability to harness nature's power via wind (or, in the future, commercial tidal or wave) has no correlation with climate change scientology. If it is there for the UK to take, and it means that we have better energy security and can trade energy, let's do it!
-
I work in energy and concur with JB. Even if all else goes to rat**** we don't want to be living with candles. I think long term renewables is a good bet provided govt subsidies remain and are increased to incentivise green energy firms. Government policy dictates that most energy suppliers will have to buy an increasing large element of their wholesale electricity from renewable generators so they are a good bet. Alternatively, stick with good old fashioned fossil fuel companies that are pure domestic generators rather than suppliers and they are likely to do well also... e.g. my favourite Drax who will always supply an energy spot market gap on tap and have good forward sales contracts anyway. They have to buy coal from abroad but have solid infrastructure reliability to sell on to suppliers when they are gasping for power to sell to the retail market in lean market times like a cold winter. Either way, it's probably a good two horse winner race for investors (in a non Kippie tip sense :-) ) as we can never have enough energy and if the UK makes a surplus via renewables etc in the future we can sell it via a future super grid to other EU countries that have less energy generation capability.

Agreed. Nobody appeared to rate Kenwyn Jones that much as he was played in defence and up front and seemed a load of uncoordinated limbs at times, yet that young man now seems to be wanted by Liverpool for multi bucks. Much the same with Scott McDonald who is now Celtic's main striker. They all start somewhere and need time.

West Ham to pay £100K a week to one player to avoid relegation
TopGun replied to TopGun's topic in General Sports
Gold and Sullivan did say they needed to be creative as they have no cash to spend so maybe this statement is part of their "creativity". Perhaps the plan is to raise interest among out of contract players and pay three of them a total of £100K a week until the end of the season - maybe £2m in total... Just a guess, who knows what chicanery goes on! -
It seems that Gold & Sullivan think that one big performing player who will be paid £100K per week will do enough to keep the Hammers in the PL this season... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/8473694.stm What can one say? For those of you old enough to recall Scoop comic in the early 80s they need a Jon Stark. But Stark was an honourable mercenary who never took his match fee unless the club he was playing for won the game that he was hired to play in...
-
He's a very poor PR man for sure. "We directed the PL to pay £5m to other clubs" etc... At some point you have to drop the ridiculous public bluster and work constructively and to the best of your ability with other parties involved without winding them up too much.

Just planning for tomorrow.

One of life's best free pleasures IMO. A late snack of pickles and stilton generally guarantees me a good start the following morning.

I recommend Netball Manager. You get to choose the length of the girls' skirts.

Don't fancy a Plinian eruption much!

There are probably far more mistakes than one, given the size of the document. But that doesn't discredit the theory of anthropological climate change or the commitment and understanding of the vast majority of genuine climate scientists. If there was a mistake on a map would you disbelieve the rest of the map or any other map manufactured by the company? If your car suffered a fault, would you believe that every other car of the same type is also faulty? If a plumber/taxi driver/boiler mechanic overcharges you, do you concur with others around you that all such people without fail are thieving gits?
-
Possibly a tax avoidance scheme that needs reviewing in the light of all this. I'd far rather that an element of the money I contribute to already rich footballers ends up in the hands of the Treasury rather than as excess tax-free payments to footballers and their grubby advisors.

I'm glad this thread has been started. I hope a mod doesn't close it for repetition!

Some chap called Singha on the Portsmouth News thread... we have zero debt more or less when u discount shareholder and 3rd party director loans which can be written off or converted to equity HMRC is settled with 3mn quid and some instalments no great shakes focus on support and lifting the embargo and plse pay wages on time simple switch to matter on the pitch and support this great club westwood, as sorrowful a deliquent u look, yes, you are right, it begs to wonder why they would buy from SAf without having a warchest of cash cash 30mn and some funding 30mn etc, weird we all know but they have helped and have kept us going and we may just have turned the corner now debt down to 50mn etc

One mistake in a 3,000 page document At least I don't make absolutely ridiculous assertions in a relatively good climate change debate such as "all scientists are liars"! And back that up with verification that involves bird flu... Actually, that would be difficult to make up, but you've done it and discredited yourself entirely!
-
BSE and bird flu have nothing to do with climate change. If you tried to compare apples and pears elsewhere you would be ridiculed. If you had followed the thread you will see that I have put down many observations about climate change and the effect that has on the UK and planet in terms of the future.
-
I am afraid that is a personal view that is not shared by the majority. However one can't expect Alpine to back up his view with facts!

I deal with protest groups day in, day out. They all try and portray themselves as David being bullied by Goliath although in my experience most of the fibs are told by the plucky little Davids! It's an old and well worn ploy.

Phew. First victory in V so at least I won't be pointless. This is going to be a tough season.
