  1. I went to Tauntons college with Alpine. We used to run away when we heard the dirge approaching.
  2. In the old days clubs didn't go bust with the frequency they do now though. Why? Incompetent club staff chasing a buck for themselves (like bankers), leeches such as agents and stupidly high wages in order "to compete" across the divisions.
  3. It depends on how things may have turned out. For example, Australia is slow on climate change and refused to ratify the Kyoto Treaty under their right-wing govt for example. The Labor government there has ratified the treaty despite lobbying from the very powerful coal industry. In the UK it would have been the case anyway that coalfields such as Selby would have become too non-productive to supply Drax, Eggborough and Ferrybridge (which were built on the Selby coalfield deliberately). But nobody knew how deep and wide the coal went in its seams at the time.
  4. It's not the best option but we have few choices because of government vacillation on energy policy for years (back to the 1980s TDD) and a planning regime that stalls virtually every proposed power plant/wind farm etc in its tracks. All the proposed new nukes are on the sites of former nuke stations so easier to do with local communities but a nuke still takes 10 years to build. You can whack a CCGT or biomass plant up in 3 years if you can get the planning consent. And Spain managed 53% of its energy from wind recently. Over here, local farts on planning committees continue to obstruct a free resource. Whilst we quietly run out of energy. 25% of the current power generation will be offline by 2015 - most of the older coal and magnox stations.
  5. Unfortunately we would be on candles until enough renewable power is brought on line. Maybe 2030. At the moment CCGTs provide about 50% of all the power and coal about 30%.
  6. Why or when have I ever been a leftie or Socialist? And what does that have to do with energy security or climate change? In recollection, I think I'm correct in recalling that Dune has stated he supports the BNP... so on that stance I could well be a leftie...
  7. Boo-hoo. Poor old Carol Vorderman is unhappy that a new high voltage electricity line may run across her scenery from her rarely used mansion in Somerset. The line is question will be to link the proposed new nuke at Hinckley Point with the main grid near Bristol. It will be about 37 miles of overhead wire via pylons. If built, the new nuke at Hinckley Point will supply power to millions of people at a time when loads of other power stations are due for closure. Boo-hoo. Poor Carol.
  8. Naughty eyes too. But Vorderman can p#ss off as she has gone the wrong side of 40 mentally. Although I accept it would be a long decline. She is campaigning against new pylons near her mansion in Somerset, where she has moved to recently and lives occasionally. Back to candles with her thinking!
  9. But it is sad when a half decent singer like Lucie Jones gets dumped in favour of Jedward by the judge Cowell.
  10. I agree with some of the above sentiments but I will still Rage because it is anti-Cowell. Never before has pap been in the hands of just one person. And it is killing young fresh music because there are no national TV outlets for real talent (not singers doing covers) any longer. Cowell should be up for music crimes! And so should the rubbish radio stations that follow his lead. I feel like Sting does (uncomfortable).

    Hattrick

Yes, so it will be tough.
  12. Effing bollix. Thatcher destroyed things, Labour has created things.

    Full set! Auto promotion. Yay.
  14. Still at the gym Stu or are you now an internet giant?
  15. But you also need to work out where the other teams are from 1 October. Though I have no doubt that even if we creep up one point per week to the play-off zone we'll be in the mix.
  16. You'd think so but Elland Road is a tip. Ken Bates fronts them but no one seems to be sure who actually owns them (does this sound familiar?). There is loads of derelict land around Elland Road so if they were that big/rich nowadays they would surely have announced some plans to improve or get a better stadium and surrounding facilities.
  17. Spot the non-graduate comments!
  18. Are other cats coming in the flap and worrying him? Also, if he is old (you don't say how old he is when you got him), kidneys.

    MPs expenses

This feller is in trouble. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8406130.stm I don't pick him out specifically, as he is one of many who have been outed in the latest round of expenses and he is not claiming for a bell tower in his mansion either. Is there an argument that £65K is not a good enough salary for an MP and is that why some are abusing expenses? Thoughts please.
  20. http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/DivisionalAttendance/0,,10794~200925,00.html Norwich have an amazingly good support. Fair play to them (though not on Tuesday obviously).
  21. Never going to find it then.
  22. So where are those St Landrew?
  23. Not as easy as it looks Barney. I blame part of the failed bet on mediocre managers who are hyped up in the tabloid press.
  24. Proper link then please M Le G. It's too difficult otherwise.
