"Can we all please now return to some kind of sanity and tie George Monbiot to the back of a Range Rover?"
  2. Surely they have been approached by Saints post-suspension and have said Trotts can play (because he can't) knowing that helps Trotts and Saints in the remainder of his loan period.
  3. I have to agree with St Landrew. I'm surprised he didn't go mad tbh.

I finished top of Div VI two or three seasons ago and got spanked by a Div V side in the play-off but it's obviously largely a luck thing on who you might get. Currently top of VI.46 with max points but the crunch game is this weekend against my rivals who have only dropped three points (against me) but have a better goal difference. I am probably going to pack the midfield and play a pressing game to prevent his excellent forwards getting service. Play for the draw!
  5. An interesting pre-Copenhagen synopsis of where different nations stand currently in terms of their climate change aspirations. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8345343.stm
  6. I have to say St George can ramble on forever with my blessing. He makes climate change deniers look like utter lunatics.
  7. Seriously TDD, you need to get a grip on the constitution and how it works. Or shut up. As for Baroness Ashton, it's a shrewd move by the UK as it potentially gets a trusted UK person in the heart of the EU despite all the independent parts such as currency that we retain.
  8. It's called the flat earth society where George is concerned. If you believe the scientific nonsense he peddles you have a problem. Each of George's graphs etc come from maverick sources that are not recognised by main stream science. Ask yourself, are all the politicians of the world making decisions on accepted and good science or George's and Dune's mad little tinpot john doe head for the mountains theorists?
  9. If all the current F1 drivers had exactly the same cars who would you rank as the top 5 drivers? My subjective list is: 1. Vettel 2. Alonso 3. Raikonen 4. Hamilton 5. Massa I find it quite tricky as I am at a loss to know how drivers like Kubica might perform if they had had a better car.

  12. See no point at all signing him. Over the hill and Harding is ok at left back. Plus Keane makes the point Thatcher is not in his starting line up because he can't adhere to basic principles such as getting to training on time.
  13. £350K seems quite cheap to me for a pub in a good location. Always enjoyed watching the Solent City Jazz Men play there on weekday evenings.
  14. An interesting set of proposals put forward by the government today to grant permitted planning development rights to put up smaller turbines and solar panels. http://www.communities.gov.uk/news/corporate/1384648 It's been put out to consultation for three months but should make it through. Basically it will remove the need for planning permission to be granted to put up green energy devices in many cases. A good move in my opinion. I am assisting a museum install a 50KW solar PV system which ought to produce enough energy on average to power the equivalent of about 20 houses on a 24-hour basis. However, the flat earth society nimbys have halted much small scale green energy development in the UK while Germany, Spain and Denmark have embraced the concept. This looks like a plan that could help alleviate the planning process quagmire, allow the generation of green energy at places such as schools, hospitals and stadia, and help bring the manufacturing cost and retail price of turbines/PV panels down as well. A win-win, I would suggest.
  15. St George and Ian Plimer go well together. George Monbiot has a good go at Plimer today. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/blog/2009/nov/13/climate-deniers-today-programme

  19. From the Times last week. Spain was celebrating its commitment to renewable energy yesterday after wind turbines dotted across the country produced more than half of all its electricity for the first time. High winds across Spain on Sunday meant that for over five hours, over 53 per cent of the country’s power came from wind energy. The towering white wind turbines which loom over Castilla-La Mancha — home to Cervantes’s hero Don Quixote — and which dominate other parts of Spain, set a new record in wind energy production. Most of the wind power was used immediately, 6 per cent was stored and 7.7 per cent was exported to France, Portugal and Morocco. In the past decade Spain has relentlessly invested in wind power, along with other renewable sources, making it the third-biggest supplier after the United States and Germany. Luis Atienza, president of Red Eléctrica which runs Spain’s electricity grid, said: “This makes us proud. There is no other country of our size which has completed and bettered a renewable energy production of over 50 per cent in such a timescale.” José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, Spain’s Prime Minister, a strong believer in renewable energy, has hinted his Government may phase out nuclear plants. The move has provoked opposition from within the nuclear industry, his own party and from the opposition conservative Popular Party. Spain began its wind power push in 1997, but five years ago critics believed it could not produce more than 14 per cent of the country’s electricity. Wind farms have produced 17,700 megawatt-hours (mWh) of electricity so far this year, but renewable energy industry figures believe this figure could rise to 40,000mWh by 2020. Spain’s Socialist Government invested €991 million (£890 million) in wind power in 2007. Already it has reaped a return on its investment; in 2007 it saved €1 billion on fossil fuels, according to the Spanish Environment Ministry. José Donoso, president of the Spanish Wind Energy Association, said: “A few years ago no one would have predicted these figures but we believe we can go on rising. “It will be good for the environment and reduce our importation of fossil fuels.” Red Electrica said this year wind power is expected to produce 13 per cent of all electricity, hydroelectric power 10 per cent and solar power 2.5 per cent. Spain’s solar industry is one of the fastest growing in the world.

I am top also with max points although have to play my only rival away yet and his goal difference is better because I have used this season against some easy teams to blood youngsters. I have a total squad TSI of 89,000 and my rival over 200,000. However my wages are £19,000 each week and his are £80,000. I reckon he must be broke so am saving up myself for a new solid manager who will cost £1,700,000. I need about £200,000 more. I think my squad will then improve immeasurably.

  23. I'd have to agree with that but that doesn't fundamentally make the EU a bad proposition. Corrupt individuals exist in all walks of life. However, it is interesting to note that the two British MEPs convicted of fraud are both UKIP! Ashley Mote was sentenced to nine months porridge in 2007 for benefit fraud and Tom Wise is currently looking at seven years for expenses fraud. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/exukip-mep-faces-jail-over-expenses-scam-1815745.html
