Very happy he got the win. Really want this to work out so hopefully that was the first step in the right direction. I reckon it can breathe some confidence into the whole team. Glad to see him continue to drop the players that have let him down. Good stuff.

Sheff Utd 1-2 Saints - Match Thread

I think I’d stick with the same back 3 personally. Quarshie is young and learning. He made some mistakes tonight, but he is showing that he is a big lump that could come good. The other 2 did alright, I thought. I just don’t want to see THB and Stephens back in the side for a while tbh. They’ve let us down too many times.- 1154 replies

I just don’t understand how we can drop down a league and look so agonisingly bad. Maybe I’m just being overly negative after months and months and months of shite. But I thought we were absolutely abysmal tonight. General play, passing, set pieces all awful. Well done to Stewart for a couple of good finishes. -

I’d annoyed if that was disallowed for us. I think that should have stood tbh. But happy days. We’ve been absolutely shite again though -

Yeah fair point. But considering we had months to prepare, and Still was in place for a while, I still maintain that we are ridiculously underprepared for the season. It’s like it’s all come as a massive surprise to the club that the championship is a physical, fast paced league. I’m just fucking bored of new managers coming in and making the exact same mistakes over and over again. I think it’s fucking poor that the fans all see the main issues and the club doesn’t. Athletes. A Striker. A Goalkeeper. A vocal leader in the spine of the team. 99% of us have called these issues and we go and spend a fortune on a load of wingers. It’s such a fucking chore supporting this club at the moment. -

One thing I would say; Saying we didn’t have this squad doesn’t sit well with me. He could have played Quarshie, Edward’s, wood & macca from the start. We have had a completely unsettled side & formation since last season. Nothing was even attempted to solve this in pre-season. I know he had to learn the players etc. so maybe he does deserve some slack here, but I do think we were extremely unprepared for this season. One of our biggest issues is a lack of chemistry. I would really like to stick to a formation and squad and let them build relationships on the pitch. The rest of it, fair enough. I am happy to see the improvement recently and hope it continues. Really want him to be a success.- 1154 replies

Fair fucking play Picked based on merit for once. Scienza, Robinson, Archer and Downes probs the ones staking a claim but can’t argue really

Does our recruitment team even watch players before we buy them?
Osvaldorama replied to Osvaldorama's topic in The Saints
Yeah, I think he looks a prospect. Agree that he is raw, but has some key attributes that we are missing. I just don’t understand how we can get our ‘bad ones’ so hopelessly wrong. Every club has a fair share of signings that don’t work out; so I understand that you can’t have a 100% hit rate. But some of the decision making since SR have come in is insane. They aren’t just bad signings, they’re players that look like they shouldn’t be on a professional pitch. Let alone paying big fees for them. Madness -
I agree, we looked a lot better, like a team instead of a rabble. Hopefully a sign of improvement and not a false dawn. I watched the game with a spurs fan and a United fan and they both thought we looked very good and were unlucky as well. Im very interested in this weekend’s lineup as I don’t think THB or Stephens deserve a place back in the side. I’m intrigued to see what he decides
-
Thought he was much improved and very good last night. Fair play
-
Last night was a step forward for me. I know it was only a reserve Liverpool team, so it is probably another false dawn, but I thought we looked a lot more like an actual football team instead of a rabble. Some nice passing and aggression compared to the fucking shambles at the weekend.

Damion Downs - Official: Loaned to Hamburg
Osvaldorama replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
Ali Dia Literally the worst player I have seen since him. Only saints could sign a player this shit. I didn’t think we could see a player worse than guido Carrillo but fuck me, we’ve actually done it. Weak, dumb, can’t control it, can’t pass it, can’t shoot. Fuck sake -
Yeah. He would have been good at this level. Our only striker that could do anything. He has 3 goals already in a league that is arguably not much different in quality. Our strikers can only dream of that many Strange decision making all around, as usual.

i dont think its harsh at all. He’s clearly nowhere near ready for a team that’s supposed to be challenging for promotion. Striker has been a huge issue for us for a long time so I admit that he may be taking the brunt of that… but Christ he’s been poor. -
We’ll be able to enjoy them in person in a couple more years with these helmets in charge
-
Problem is, in this league, giving it a few games could be the difference between making the playoffs and missing out altogether. I can see both sides really. I understand how bad it is to change yet again. It does feel too soon and knee jerk. But as I said in my objective assessment post.. things are as bad as it gets. There are no positives of his tenure so far. And he doesn’t have the CV to say he can fix this. We have a lot of money and firepower for this level, this season. We can’t waste it. Otherwise we’ll be in a proper mess.
-
If I evaluate how it’s going as objectively as I can…: -He wasted pre-season. - Has no idea what his best team his. - His subs are all panicky and abysmal - he just throws 4 players on at once. -Set pieces are awful - Defence is awful - Attack is awful - Midfield is awful Yeah. Terrible appointment. Get rid and get an actual football manager in as quickly as possible.
