I think there is a big case to be made that none of the defenders from the last couple of seasons can be judged too harshly* because they had an absolute shit show going on in front of them. Everyone at the club forgot how to play football for a couple of years. *Except Lyanco, he’s toilet.

Fantastic, fantastic work. Today’s performance epitomises everything he said about needing time etc. He has made even our worst performers better, he has us competent and solid. He has us mixing it up in attack. Absolutely amazing work. Completely turned the club around. Happiest I’ve been leaving st Mary’s in absolutely ages.

Just want to say a very big public sorry to Russell Martin. I was one that was questioning the appointment at the start. Today was fantastic. Previous saints teams would have been bullied by such a big physical team. But martins team had the confidence to play them off the park. It was genuinely fantastic, just like the last couple of months. Russell Martin, fucking outstanding work sir.

This season has made me appreciate Sir Rickie even more (if that’s even possible). His strength, touch, creativity and vision on top of his deadly finishing made the championship seem easy. What a player he was.

The good thing for me is we continued to mix things up and look threatening the whole game. Sometimes, especially in this league, you just can’t break down a low block and the oppo gets lucky. Norwich we’re so deep that it was pretty embarrassing to be honest - they didn’t even try and play. Concludes a fantastic second half to the year and everyone at the club deserves credit. We are now in touching distance of the autos which is all we can ask for. Haply new year all

Hope KWP is ok. Looked like his knee took a stretch there. Good start. We are playing with purpose and mixing it up well so far.

Tough game. We have improved loads defensively since the 4-4, so who knows. Score could be anything as usual in the champ. Excited for this one. Up the saints. Safe travels to all going.

He has a lot to learn, but his dedication and hard work is there for all to see. He has a fantastic shot & football brain. I think he could develop into a truly fantastic footballer. Sulemana has some of the physical attributes but I am not sure he has the mentality. I agree with someone above that it will be good to see him in a more confident / winning team. But truthfully I don’t think he wants to be here at all from his body language.

That run of form is simply unbelievable. Quality, absolutely quality. Was doubtful of the style at first but cannot deny the results and improvement all over the pitch. Sorry for ever doubting you Russ.

We are fans at the end of the day, not professional football scouts. Yet we can still see when obvious flaws are showing and discuss them. Luckily we actually have a manager now that can also see the same problems and more importantly do something about it. Unlike the last couple of appointments. The questions about Martin were fair. And he has answered them with aplomb. Which is also fair.

Have you tried, I dunno, watching a game when he plays? He saunters about thinking he’s too good for the club whilst producing absolutely fuck all. In fairness he was actually tracking back and working hard in the last couple of games before his injury. But in general he looks like he couldn’t care less about playing for us IMO

I don’t understand why Sulemana is rated so highly by fans. He has done nothing in his time here except sulk. Edozie miles better

I get what you’re saying here, but as mentioned by someone previously, the Christmas interview where he talked about caring about everyone from the cleaners up to the first team.. I genuinely don’t think that’s an act. I think he’s a top, top bloke. Won me over as a person from the start and now he’s won me over as a coach too. Lovely stuff.

Sorry for your loss mate. I sincerely wish you and the family all the best. My grandad was a season ticket holder for over 50 years. He died a couple of years ago and it’s still hard going to St Mary’s.…I often look over at his old seat in the Kingsland and expect to see him dishing out the jelly babies to his old mates. It gets easier with time and also knowing that they are always there with you.

Starting to dream we can actually catch Ipswich. Look a lot more dangerous and more solid now. v v impressed with how Martin has turned us around. Some astute signings in Jan and we can pull it off. Up the saints

And we sold tella!! basically relied on Adam Armstrong to score goals and no one else…which in itself was a gamble after his form the last few years. Luckily and credit to him and Martin he has been fantastic but even that was a gamble. Our transfer policy when it comes to attacking players is atrocious and has been for a while. There are signs of life defensively though with the signings of THB & Downes.

No one can defend the club here and anyone that tries is wearing ridiculous red tinted glasses. It was a mental gamble. Compounded by the fact that one striker signings have been cack for YEARS. If this was a one off bad striking signing, then that’s fine every recruitment team makes the odd mistake. But saints are consistently unable to find goal scorers and it’s a real and fair concern. 100% questions should be asked of the club
