Yeah this is my big worry. I love arma. He was fantastic last season. But we have a large amount of evidence that he’s not quite good enough to replicate his goal scoring in the premier league. Yet we are heavily relying on him again this season as things stand.

Bijlow only needs to be fit for games against the bottom teams. We can rest him against the big six. We can just wheel him in for the six pointers then wheel him back to the medical department for the games we have no chance in anyway. Sorted

It’s because he’s absolutely dire. Even yesterday, sure, he probably wouldn’t have made the same mistake that Macca did, but he probably would have made a different mistake. Let in a pea roller or a something. We wouldn’t have been promoted with him in goal, although we can’t be 100% certain, I am 99%. One of the worst shot stoppers I’ve seen for us in any league

The really distressing part is, as utterly wank as McCarthy is, he’s still better than all of our other goalkeeper options. Shocking indictment of our recruitment team. Imagine if Bazunu was fit. Nightmare.

Sad truth is we simply can’t compete for genuine PL quality strikers in this window. We don’t have the money or the reputation. A gamble on a young up and coming player like Archer may backfire. But it’s also probably our best option in this crazy market.

I think in football or in any job, sometimes places work out and sometimes they don’t. Every club has ones which don’t go their way. Lemina was a good signing. He has shown himself to be a great premier league player in short spells. We all knew if he had the mindset he could be quality. But the timing was wrong. However, that is actually an example of good scouting. Technically he’s a brilliant footballer. It’s all the others on that list that are shocking. Like… what the actual fuck were the scouts looking at? I watched 5 minutes of Guido Carrillo and it was obvious he was atrocious. Same with many of those others. Just never, ever premier league players, let alone top half which is where we were at the time. The club are just blind/stupid in certain positions. Bazunu is another example. Ludicrous, ludicrous money. Does anyone know anything about the back room recruitment team? Did they all leave with Cortese? I sincerely hope we have sacked anyone involved with most of the last few seasons’ scouting and recruited people that actually watch football

Agree with all the above. Recruitment is the most important thing for a club of our size. To serve up as many duds as we have in recent times has crippled us. We need to recruit a scouting team that can consistently find us gems like they did under Cortese and the following seasons. It’s not all about big money - look at Steven Davis, Jay Rod, even Cork. Etc. All signed for cheap and had quality PL careers. So we know it can be done.

Sounds like you might need a new hobby. We are going to be underdogs in every game no matter who else we sign. We may lose some matches (a lot), but we may surprise a few. Why not back the team instead of being ridiculously negative before a ball is even kicked? It’s going to be a tough season so the club needs the fanbase more than ever.

Despite your sarcasm the sad reality is that he’s the best striker currently at the club. So we’d be wise to play to his strengths tbh

They are top of the red and yellow card lists in La Liga for a reason. Absolute shit houses. (We probably need to learn a thing or two from them tbh. Glad we coped with it quite well).
