Yep. Japan qualified for the tournament by beating Australia in the 2011 Asian Cup final. Tadanari Lee scored the winner.

4 years ago, when this tournament was last taking place we were still in administration. The progress is crazy.

They won the 2012 Oceania Nations Cup. Beat New Caledonia in the Final, first country other then New Zealand and Australia (who now compete in the Asian confederation instead) to do so. Oceania is by far the weakest of the 7 confederations.

They got to the final in the last tournament in 2009. Even led against Brazil before they rallied.

They are the winners of the individual regional cups (European Champions, South American Champions, Asian Champions, Oceania etc) and the world cup hosts... it serves as a trial run for the world cup facilities. Basically an all star battle royale (including Tahiti), love it!
