Main car would be plenty of choice. C70, A4 cab, 3 series. VW Eos is supposed to be decent. All supposing you need 4 seats based on post 11. 2nd car. If 4 seats....older versions of the above, maybe a CLK. Plenty of French stuff if that's your bag. I wonder how good the older French cars would be, but I'd have the megane cab over the 308 (or was it 307) based on looks.

I think the 'reasonable football' goes without saying.....and I'd even go as far as saying 'attacking, attractive football'. I want to see us win, and win well. As NickG said, sure, Cortese has made some mistakes, and I was one of those that did instalments last year...but more because it was simple to do and 0% interest - financial sense. I'm lucky that I didn't really need to and could pay in one hit this time. IMHO the Echo have got what they deserve as their reporting is becoming more and more 'sensationalist' over the last 12 months. Lazy journos who pick up their 'news' from here by the looks of things. As for everything else that you hear - I'd be oblivious to it if I wasn't a user of this forum. You read a lot on here about him, but there's never really any fact to how he is, other than 'a mate of a mate knows someone who works at the club and....' Is he a bit of an ogre with an ego? Probably - as all business leaders can be. Is he a proven winner? Yep. Sure, I hope he'll mellow a bit, but I'm looking forward to the new season and trust that we'll buy the right players to get promoted as champions. That's my primary concern atm. -
Is it luck that you've never been caught, or can you, hand on heart, say you don't speed...ever? I certainly don't speed in built up areas, but yep, I do sometimes elsewhere so fair enough if I get caught. It is a bit galling though when 30 mph limits have been introduced where it was previously 60mph (probably too much) or 40 mph (about right), and has been my entire life, and you get done. I'd love to see the reasoning behind why it's a 30mph at that particular spot, especially when other 40mph zones (Hursley Road, at the top of Hook Road) were reduced a couple of years later, that were more deserving of a lower limit. I can only assume the speed limits are set by the local council (Hook Road is Test Valley, Hursley Road is Eastleigh).

It was probably a case of standing very close to the hedge so that he camouflaged himself. That and overhanging branches made it very difficult to see him.
-
I didn't see him as there was a car in front (about 20 yards) and he was hiding in the effing hedge!
-
Yep, same today. He was on the corner by Hook Crescent. I might be lucky, but I'm not counting on it.
-
I'm pretty sure he did....but they weren't having a bean of it. I'm not sure who gets the revenue from speeding fines, but if the police force get a cut of it, you can bet your bottom dollar they'll be looking to up their takings as their budgets are being slashed. The increase in police mobile cameras in Chandlers Ford has been very noticeable over the last 6 months.

I have - and in the last 12 months. 32 (it may have been 33) in a 30 in the new 30mph zone through Ampfield. They've been having a spurt on reducing previous 40 and 60 mph zones around Ampfield / Chandlers Ford down to 30mph zones over the last year or two. Think I've just been done on Hook Road doing 36. I may have been lucky as I slowed pretty quick and there was a car in front - not sure how long they need to lock on. I wouldn't mind but the copper had pretty much parked his bike behind a tree and was hiding in the bushes! There's only one road off Hook Road, and houses only on one side. I'd guess there are no more than 15 houses on the mile stretch to the Potters Heron. I have no issue with obeying the speed limit, but sometimes you wonder if the speed limit in place is down to residents whinging (they're big houses so probably find a councillor or mp lives there), or to attract easy revenue. It's always been a national speed limit until the last year or so.

This is about the long and the short of it. When we make our next impressive signing, I'm going to be more concerned about Cortese's row with the Echo.... -
Correct. Retailers can refuse to take them, but you can just go and swap them at a bank branch.

Bear in mind it was a 2003 Passat (new when I bought it) and a 2005 A6 (again, new when I bought it). The Passat had been around a few years and was a good car. I had the TDi Sport and the ride was ok but a bit soft (the SE was like blancmange). The A6 was a completely new shape. It was a bigger car, which suited my needs, and had better quality materials. The move to the Audi Multi Media Interface from a normal stereo was a pretty vast change. All in all, it was the overall quality that was better and you'd expect that for the price difference, which I think was around the £5k mark at the time - ok by me for a much bigger car. New Passat (which I think is about to be replaced) is pretty good and my old man has one. However, there's a new A6 next year and I assume the difference will be pretty big when you compare a car coming to the end of its shelf life to one at the start. Guess it depends on budget - Passat is a decent car. A6 is better. All IMO of course!

Fair enough. Your OP seemed to suggest it was down to the dealer. I'd admit that if I was looking for a car the sort of size as an A3 then I would have a look at a Golf too (I actually prefer the look of the Golf, and it's a top car from previous experience.). I did have a look at a Seat Leon with my wife 3 or 4 years ago and it wasn't our bag - each to their own. Under the bonnet may be the same. That's not where the 'build quality' starts and finishes though - it's one part. Interesting that you were looking at both A3 and Ibiza. On the basis that the A3 is a much bigger car, it seems strange. The A3 equivalent is surely the Leon...which is a lot more expensive than the Ibiza. Leon 2.0 TDi 140 Sport is £18500. A3 2.0TDi 140 Sport is £20500. You could easily, easily wipe that difference out with a decent deal. Would I buy an A3 over a Leon with that price differential? Yep, every day of the week. IMHO that makes the Seat pretty expensive, and it's a much cleaner comparison in terms of size. You've effectively compared a Fiesta with a Focus. I'm ok about going to Salisbury once every 19k miles for a service - no biggie. Had it since October, and no need to take it in for any issues. When I wanted to test drive, they bought it to my house (Chandlers Ford) - pretty good customer service. You mentioned that I was suckered into buying my car by marketing schmooz - pretty sure there isn't an equivalent Seat, unless you could point me in the direction of one. Pretty general comment without finding out what I bought. My choice for a similar car was BMW, Mercedes, or possibly VW for the Passat CC. Resale plays an important part in the decision too, based on teh length of time I keep the car. Also, deals on the table at the point of purchase. I think you'd agree that £5.5k off a brand new, factory ordered car is pretty decent (16%). Residuals are also important - mine will be greater than the Passat CC (which works out at similar money for the same spec), and the deals they were offering made the car pretty much the same price as mine. Bit of a no brainer. Mercedes are too expensive and BMW don't do it for me particularly with their current range. My last two cars have been new A6's (2005 and 2007) - no Seat, VW or Skoda equivalent. Before that new Passat (2003) and new Golf (2001). Went from a Passat to the new A6. Would I say the A6 was better? Yep....by a pretty big distance too.

He is a bit of a nobber that bloke. Had a couple of run ins with him - I tried to explain the finer duties of an administrators duties, but I think he's a bit simple.
-
Suckered? No, i bought the car that I wanted, from a dealer that was prepared to do me a deal on it. My car doesn't have an equivalent in the Seat range so, no, I wasn't suckered. Were you suckered into buying a Seat by a smooth talking salesman?
-
Yep, I did but you'll find it's an Audi plant not a Seat plant...and think you'll also find that 'an' Audi will be built in Spain by Seat - the upcoming Q3. Smaller cars, smaller margins, makes sense to make use of all company facilities. I think you're kidding yourself if you seriously, seriously think you get the same quality parts, sound proofing etc etc in a Seat as you do in an Audi.

Given that Griffin are offering 65p, I'm not sure why Gaydamak would even consider AAs offer...unless there's some under the table agreement to do with the land. Gaydamak has no real interest in the club, so it won't bother him if they slide through the divisions - he just wants his money back. So, 20% of £32m over 4 years or 65% of £32m? I'd LMAO if Gaydamak and HMRC vote against and remove any doubt.
