😂 Yes, his goal scoring exploits are remarkable and he seems to score at every level. Hatrick for England at any level is something really special.
-
Great response chaps, celebrate a Southampton home grown lad scoring a hattrick or be cynical . Class.
-
Yes, very good work Trousers. I thought that there might be other threads somewhere but not having the will to page through a forum, just thought that a hattrick for England deserved highlighting.
-
Surely his goal scoring achievements, even at the tender age of 18 mean that he deserves his own thread. https://www.englandfootball.com/articles/2023/Nov/21/england-mens-u19-mexico-match-report-20232111 A hatrick for England U19s today just adding to his growing reputation. The chaotic mess that is Reading FC at the moment is arguably not the best place for him to be developing his potential. Looking forward to him scoring goals in a Saints first team shirt, which seems to be his inevitable destiny, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Cracking win grommitt from the Saints today apart from KWPs brain fart in the 2nd half and the 10 minutes of the Benny Hill Show that followed when we could have conceded another. I thought Downes was superb in midfield today and KWP (brain fart aside) was different gravy to everyone else on the pitch. Taylor Harwood Bellis has Future Saints Captain written all over him and even Bree looked very assured at left back. Funniest moment of the day was the Northam End booing Bazunu for not going up for the corner at the end. It just remains for me to thank Birmingham for kindly appointing a moron as their new manager.

It's the not creating any chances when we have so much possession that drives me nuts. Martin seems happy that endless possession means that we are controlling the game but if matters nowt if you are not creating chances. That's three games in a row where we go 1-0 up and then sit back and concede. Two late goals have saved us from 2 points out of 9.
-
Have we found Bazunu's best position?
-
Martin decided to drop him just as he was playing well
-
It might also help if he learned how to cross the ball
-
On a positive note, we've managed to find a Championship left back worse than Manning

Impotent

Hull have outplayed us in this half. Our supposed possession style has not worked at all.
-
Larios was out of his depth in the few games that he played.
-
Charles for me, purely based on Holgate's 2 poor performances so far in a Saints shirt.
-
Both deserved more England caps
-
And how did that approach work out?

You seem to have deliberately ignored many replies that have made the point that for a long period either side of half time we didn't try to get the extra goal, instead we passed the ball sideways and backwards without taking chances. The effect of this was that we created very few chances to get the second goal which would have rendered the Rotherham goal insignificant. This is why fans were despondent at the final whistle.
-
So who told the team to pass the ball slowly and negatively for half an hour, made three poor substitutions resulting on us losing the attacking iniative to put the game to bed which would have rendered their goal insignificant. You shouldn't sit back, at home on a 1-0 lead especially against the team bottom of the league.

David Hurst, Jamie Redknapp, Charlie Austin, Danny Ings
-
Oh, and the late substitutions of Bree and Aribo who both came on and chased shadows
-
Fair play to RM who got the starting 11 right (perhaps Charles for either Downes or Smallbone). Substitutions were about right also, although at the time I thought Sulemana was unlucky to be withdrawn. The only sour notes were the disappointing drop in intensity in the 2nd half and the inability of Downes or Smallbone to dominate the middle, particularly when the opposing team increases their intensity.

That's because Ipswich sat back because they were protecting a 1-0 lead .. and it worked.
