Once again Barry, you are the victim of your own lack of comprehension. Let's address a few points that you seem to have missed. 1) I was involved in the content of the wiki page you linked. 2) I have first hand experience with members of G12 churches 3) I've prevented many people from joining them And finally... 4) You could be on this site for another 100 years and never produce a thread as decent as the "Did Britain Enter World War II too soon" thread (for that was what it was about).

Brilliant. Submitting a page that I personally contributed to as proof that I'm wiki'ing the lot

Actually Bazza, I spent several years working for a firm in which all the senior management belonged to a G12 church. They used the business as a trojan horse for recruiting into their religious organisation. I ended up being the person people went to whenever a conversion attempt was made. They got no-one during my tenure, something I'm very proud of. You're the chap who needs to demonstrate a bit of humility in this instance, mucker.

I started out talking about local evangelical churches. I'm suggesting you go to one to explore your ideas on belief. At least one of them adopted the G12 model for a time, which was a rapid religious growth movement that started out in Bogota, Colombia. You may call it a cult. I couldn't possibly comment. Still, I think it might be a good jumping on point for your burgeoning interest in belief. FWIW, I don't actually think they'll "get ya", but you will come into contact with lots of born-agains. It's a solid area for your studies that I think you should explore.

You're half wrong because cellular church growth strategies haven't been happening for centuries. The missionaries in South America took a more (ahem) orthodox path. Would you like me to sort you out if with an invite to the church? They do a full service, from worship to gay conversion.

The man was cryogenically frozen in the late 1980s. All his cultural references are from there. Cut him some slack, FFS.

I've got people in mind. They do alpha courses and encounters and suchlike. Barry will be speaking in tongues and screaming demons out of himself within months. They are very big on belief. Charismatic Christian outfit. It would be an interesting experiment though. Would go some way to answering Barry's questions about the origins of belief.

Actually, you're half-right. Most of the recent rapid growth churches are new. They modeled themselves after terrorist organisations by adopting cell structures. Most church experiences happen outside the church itself. One of the biggest movements of this type did begin in South America though; just happened 20 years ago instead of centuries ago. You seem interested in the spiritual, Bazzington. I know some pastors. Would you like me to put you in touch with them?

I read this piece on cults the other day. http://www.apologeticsindex.org/265-who-joins-cults-and-why There are a number of very evangelical churches in the area that come close to this; even use a lot of the same tricks, such as hanging around universities looking for destitute students. The lesson here; a lack of religious/spiritual experience can leave the unwary in a very dangerous position.

    Star Wars VII

There are some reasons to get excited; it's a new Star Wars film, and it is unlikely to be as crap as any of the prequels, because George Lucas no longer has complete creative control. Some worries exist. Abram's treatment of the Star Trek stuff was like a man recreating Trek from a conversation he'd overheard. Lots of little bits of lip service, but ultimately little appreciation of the source material. First movie was forgiveable; the second was awful. Also, I worry that the only reason the original cast are coming back is to get killed off.
  16. MLT's comment on Riise's goal:- "Good shot from the distance!" (or something very close)
  17. Puts me in mind of "Bruce Grobbelaar lets in goals", sung to the tune of "Heads, shoulders, knees and toes". 1... 2... 3... Bruce Grobbelaar lets in goals, lets in goals, lets in goals Bruce Grobbelaar lets in goals, lets in goals, lets in goals And then he drives a fúcking great big Rolls Bruce Grobbelaar lets in goals, lets in goals, lets in goals
  18. My mate's nephew was playing for Chelsea's youth team in their cup game last night. Fulham's kit is a negative of ours. Loads of other teams have some variant of our identikits. It's naff. I'd like to see something classy and bespoke as a result.
  19. Most posters on a mongboard won't rip your arms off when you insult them. I suggest a new strategy. Let the wookie win.
  20. No, I'm saying a big part of the player he is comes down to the environment the club has provided, and the fact that he wasn't warming the bench in a mega-stadium somewhere. His journey as a footballer is quite remarkable. Relegated from the Championship, two promotions, now an established Premier League star with the beginnings of an international career. If there was something that'd keep him here, I'd like to think it's the odyssey he's had so far, along with a belief that he can achieve his ambitions at the club.
  21. Oh aye, my point is just that we're not going to get a constant drip-feed of information. I don't know the ins and outs of the transfer business, but I'd imagine informal conversations would take place ahead of any formal bid. I also really hope you're right, it's all media speculation and bóllocks, and that AL will stridently affirm his position as leader of Southampton FC for the next campaign. I share your view that the media often completely misses the mark over the specifics of deals or non-deals, but over the longer term, aren't they generally right? Barring MLT, all of our best players up until this current crop have done the offs to ostensibly greener grass. I personally think that many of them go far too young, and that a big part of why Ads is so good is because of his comfort with our setup. He's grown up here and has seen investment and continuity from 2009.
  22. He has got two possible paths really; stay and build or leave for more immediate opportunities. I think we both agree that it is a tremendous opportunity for him, but it would be a body-blow to me if he goes. If the captain doesn't fancy staying on the ship, what's wrong with the ship? I'm only really half-joking when I say that too. If he goes, it probably means he doesn't think we're going to get near Europe for a bit.
  23. Respectfully, we don't know what has gone on in the last few days. I reckon Les Reed should walk outside SMS every hour and shout "no new bids" like a town cryer, because we're all operating on outdated information. One thing I find a bit worrying is the captain saying "we'll talk about it in the summer".
  24. Barry lives here.
  25. Like every Saints fan, don't want Ads to leave. Realistically though, Liverpool can offer him loads more next season than we can. Champions League, a chance to command a spot in a big team in an area where they're not too strong. He's worryingly at a very good age to go too. The only positive news about this is that there seems to be a three-way bidding war going on at the moment. Man United and Spurs are also looking at him. Liverpool in pole position though.
