  1. Maybe. Or maybe you just need to not take everything you read or see as gospel.
  2. I don't consider those two points important at all. First, you're completely guessing on where the zakat money might go. I have to congratulate the propagandists on snaring another one though. Your first thought about how Muslims might spend the money? Terrorism? They've done their job on you, kid. The last point doesn't deserve a response.
  3. Yes. Pretty much every newspaper doing "Kosher" stories would be labelled anti-semitic.
  4. Don't see the distinction. If you're happy enough to eat slit throat meat from a restaurant or takeaway, why are you not happy to do the same at Subway or Pizza Express?
  5. This BBC documentary is a good primer*. * it's from those good old days when the Beeb did investigative journalism.
  6. Someone made a FOIA request over in the US. http://www.earthfiles.com/news.php?ID=2200&
  7. To the OP, no - not on this evidence. However, I like the badge, hate this minimalist shít that a lot of other clubs seem to be going for. We're a football club with over 125 years of history, not a schizophrenic design agency trying to rebrand itself in the vain hope that someone will notice. My vote is to keep it, or update it to reflect the fact we're no longer at the Dell - same badge - maybe slightly different symbolism.
  8. I like this point
  9. I've just finished The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss. Excellent fantasy book which is apparently part of a series called the Kingkiller Chronicles, already optioned for a TV series at some point. Without going into too many spoilers, the book centres around Kvothe, a man of huge repute currently laying low in a bar, posing as innkeeper. A scribe is despatched to the bar to collect the truth behind the legend. In the Name of the Wind, Kvothe focuses on telling the story of his earlier life, ranging from around the age of 8 or 9 to around fifteen. Kvothe is supremely talented at most things he ever tries his hand at, but is extremely poor with women and patience. A proper risk-taker, it's very interesting to see how his accounts of stories differ with those told by the patrons of his bar (all of whom are completely in the dark about the innkeep's true identity). As the title might imply, a lot of the book's magic is predicated on knowing the true name of things - but that's not why you should read this book. The characters and locations are top-notch, and often very funny. Already bought the next book in the series, but if you're looking for a fantasy series before the Winds of Winter lands, this one comes highly recommended.
  10. Was reading further on this; apparently 90% of halal meat is now stunned before getting cut open.
  11. I think the only people that are bothered are the Little Englanders who think that the UK is about to become a caliphate. I'd take halal chicken, beef or lamb over their non-halal alternatives anyday, prompting a couple of trips a week to the international shop. I laugh at meat-eaters who object to the method of killing, largely because if you eat meat, you're in the animal murder business whichever way you slice it (stunned or unstunned).
  12. Loads more about halal meat doing the rounds on Twitter this morning. I love the meat-eaters that object to Halal meat. They are amusing. Russell Brand = best tweet of the morning. "If you want to avoid halal meat, become a vegetarian, not a racist"
  13. Ever heard of the USS Liberty, VW?
  14. Yes you will, but for different reasons. How's being permanently miserable working out for you?

    the McCanns

Sir assumes that a robust investigation is what is happening here. Do you really believe that? As you say, the Met are giving out tons of operational information in advance which would hinder attempts to uncover evidence. The element of surprise completely lost. So far, this investigation has spent over 7m of taxpayer cash. All it has managed to achieve is identify additional potential suspects, all of which have been bigged up at the time as a potential breakthrough, none of which actually led anywhere. The aim seems to be the dilution of the McCann's potential guilt by adding more and more suspects to the mix. Since the disappearance, count the number of times you've seen the McCanns mentioned as potentially complicit, versus all the times where they present themselves as distressed parents. It's almost sacrilege in some circles to even suggest that they might know more (weirdly enough though, the DM's readers seem to be all over this). It really isn't a case of one or two details being out of place. This case would have been closed week one, had the crime happened in this country. As it is, we've spent 7m for a 0% success rate.
  16. Two funniest lines in Python history:- "You are f**king nicked, me old beauty!" "Found this spoon, sir!"
  17. I like this - it's a complete tissue of lies and contains many easily spottable mistakes, but equally, I think some people would be dumb enough to believe it and you could end up starting race riots.
  18. Ah, you're a wronged man, int'yer Bazza? All them things that people have said. Shocking lies about you being here on a colossal wind-up. People saying that a site with this much Barry ain't worth that much fiver. I know how much you think of yourself. It must be hard hearing this news. It must be like winning the opposite of a popularity contest. I've never won a c**t contest before, but I came a close second. I reckon silver is the best you can hope for. No-one wants gold. Roger Black it, kid.
  19. The only real concern I have is that this thread, which does a fine job of highlighting many of the current issues on the site, along with some florid descriptions of some of its personalities, stays around for a bit. I'm sure sir will agree with me that it is an ideal primer for the unwary.
  20. I think this should be made into a sticky. Great resource for first time posters.

    Vasectomy

One of my fave quips, when ms pap and I are asked whether we're having any more kids, is to say:- "She's not, but I might". You will lose this quip if you take the schnipp-schnipp.
  22. I'm being unnecessarily provocative to get SuperMikey's thread going, garlic muncher I note you evaded the question!
  23. Are you saying women can't manage football clubs?
