People have talked about the way I debate sometimes; I've heard the "need to be right" mentioned by a couple of posters, especially on the PS4 vs XBox thread. That particular thread was a case of knowing I was right more than anything else. In those rare "know I'm right" situations, I've only really got one objective - demonstrate it clearly to bring matters to a close. If people argue, and argue poorly, then of course I'll argue back and we end up with something a little more involved than a mere shutdown. Barry was different. He didn't care so much about being correct - he just loved having people on the hook, plain and simple. Following my cheerleading the whole "Barry is dune" thing and getting that hopelessly wrong, I said "dude, you could have killed me at any time on this. Why didn't you?". He was simply having too much fun.

Seconded. Though he may occasionally cause a bit of collateral damage, don't think there is any harm or ill-will in the Bear. However, I suspect that some kind of unofficial "oh, it's Bearsy - belay the ban hammer" arrangement in place.

Was Ads demonstrably somewhere else, then?

That is a touching and humorous eulogy, Bear. After the sterling efforts you've put in to begin what I'm sure will be a fitting tribute to the man, I feel that I am in a unique position to contribute, being one of the few people known to have seen him in the flesh. Though I have recently resumed some barbed banter with dear old Bazza on account of his trolliage, the time after the BAP man date was one of relative calm. Barry Sanchez definitely lived his life in the pursuit of winding people up. Personally, I think it's a case of the devil makes work for idle hands. I do not know if he was a skate, although I asked him if he actually supported Saints and he said yes. He claimed to be from "Botley way". Thing is, I know people like Bazza in real life. After meeting him, he got put in the box with all the other people like that; you know they're on a constant wind-up so you tend not to get too worked up about anything that gets said. I love the fact that he used his dissenting voice as justification enough in itself, especially because the dissent mainly manifested itself as something knocking the team. Sure, we've all got our ideas on how teams might be improved, but I never got the sense that improvement was what Barry wanted. He revelled in twisting any piece of news as further proof that this record-breaking team was somehow shíte, and always would be. Spare a thought for him tonight. He'll be rocking back and forth in his chair, going cold turkey. His missus is probably going to have the longest conversation she's had with him in weeks, and I expect her to be fully convinced of Saints' imminent destruction by evening's end.

Saints 1 Manchester Utd 1 - Post Match Reaction
pap replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Thought it was a good game, but difficult to keep track of it at times. Very noisy in and around Itchen North. What the fúck was it the Man Utd were singing for the majority of the second half? It sounded like gravy rendered as sound. As I said before, it very much felt like goodbye for a couple of our players, although I really hope that I'm wrong on that front. -
We were all asked to consider AV, which is really the first baby step toward a more legitimate electoral system, but wasn't PR in itself. One of the stated problems of PR is the problem that it tends to create coalitions, giving greater weight to parties who may not have polled especially well, but have agreed to form a coalition government. As for whether UKIP would have voted for PR, conventional wisdom would suggest that any smaller party would favour it, as they're almost completely excluded from Westminster seats at present. Depends on what UKIP want, I suppose. If they are only seeking to bring about a referendum, first past the post allows them to punch above their weight. They know they can muddle in key marginals and make a large difference, perhaps enough to force one of the parties to break ranks. If they're looking to govern, PR would suit them better. The reality is that they'll probably work both electoral systems as best they can.

I haven't heard any open secrets up in Liverpool concerning Lallana, but I've heard a lot of speculation since getting back to Southampton, none of it good.

Some on this thread have already said it won't be adidas. No problem with that. Their copy and paste approach was not superb.

Was in the club shop today. Almost everything adidas was half-price. Seemed like they were clearing it out.

None. Wasn't on the menu.

Jasper Carrott should have retired from comedy years ago.

Pretty sure you can vote NO2EU where you live, mush.

Remember; Tony Pulis era Stoke football is what we should be looking to achieve, even if Tony Pulis isn't interested in it anymore.

How can a bunch of Southerners be Northerners? Has NC's head been cut off? Is anyone safe? Is it true that Arya has been tapped up by Braavos United?

World's funniest joke finally translated. Watch for at least 30 seconds. This is On Topic

I've very much enjoyed the rise back up through the leagues, and not just for the success that accompanied it. I know this is going to sound condescending as hell, but getting to go to L1 and Champ grounds was like a pleasant step back into the footballing past. It was very cool to be able to show the kids the various levels of the game, and dissuade them of any notion that football begins and ends in the Premier League. The JPT win was excellent, particularly as a good mate of mine is a Carlisle fan (poor bastard). The pressure that we kept on Huddersfield throughout our League One campaign was pretty special, as was the "out-of-the-blocks" start to the Championship. I cried a little bit when we actually got promoted to the Prem. Last two years have been far too eventful for me to characterise them as smooth sailing over calm seas. We don't really know what the future holds, but we've managed to consolidate ourselves into a position where we can genuinely look at pushing for Europe with a few additions. The England call ups show that under Hodgson at least, the national side is prepared to look at our players, removing a large reason for many of them to leave. On a personal level, it has been very pleasing to move from "being humoured" to supporting a respected football team, especially living with two LFC fans.
